I use JOF and Sougayilang x8 braid on all my reels. Chinese braid is as good as any.

Palomar and uni-knot are the most common for tying braid.

If his father has nothing to with it, that'd be poor form mate. You don't attack people because they're related to idiots.

Penn do make great fishing gear. That's a good price too.

They're all alluring. But my favourite would be my $1.70 aliexpress lure. It's a good knockoff of the daiwa chubbie and has caught all my freshwater fish.

Nice haul mate.

Solid effort there mate. Well done!

How much do you spend on your rod/reel combo?
jimee replied to rockfisho's topic in Tackle, Rods and Reels
Starting from zero fishing gear at all didn't allow a fortune to be spent on rods. My main rods are Shimano sedona combos. 1-3kg, 3-6kg and 5-8kg combos. $159 each. And then I have 2 berkley boat rods @ 7-12kg. Bought one at half price at $44. It was delivered with the bail arm bent on the reel, so they sent a replacement, and I kept the second rod. This also happened with one of the shimano combos as well. Rod was broken and I kept the reel. Then bought the Ugly stick 10 foot beach combo with a 6500 reel for $100 on clearance and can now swap the reel between the beach and boat rod. I'm also braving it and ordered a $30 reel from temu for the other boat rod as the berkley reel is rubbish. 12kg rod and the reel holds 100m of 12lb. The rods are solid stump pullers though. Well worth 2 for $44. And you got about $10 tackle with each of them too. Will do a report on the temu reel after I get it. In all honesty, even if money was no object, I doubt I would use high end stuff. It may feel great but it is certainly not needed to have fun and fill an esky. -
That was enjoyable to read. Thank you, and glad you had a good time.

Thanks Bretto. And everyone else. We're both so chuffed we've both developed a sudden illness that requires another dam trip today. Leaving now for a bit earlier start.

My bro and I finally broke our freshwater virginity at last. I've been west to the lakes a few times with no luck. I'd speak to people and ask what the go is everyone has their "special technique" and left me more confused. So today I decided to do what no-one had suggested to see what happens and it worked. Busted out the 17cm gold and black diver from temu. And bam, the fish is on. And bro caught his bass on a temu special as well. 4'' goldy orange coloured diver. Both come home with big grins.

Nah, I'm a bit of a trollip and get around. First time back there. Felt like coming home though. It was my go-to area back in the day. I Been doing more down the coast so far. A bit more sheltered while we got the hang of everything before heading out on more serious trips. Didn't intend to go that far on the electric motors but it was just such a good day. Paid for it on the way home against the tide. I like to go to the dams out west as well.

First of all, got to say this is one of the best forums I've been on. Everyone seems really friendly and willing to help. Very happy to be here. As the title states, 25 years since I've fished. Owned a few boats in my early 20's and nothing since. Didn't really have the desire to own another ATM for a few reasons so I decided to buy a kayak around Christmas. What a blast it's been so far with it. I think I have more fun it than any boat I've owned. You can get through in under a foot of water and cruise over to Peel on a good day. It cruises at 10kmh and 13-14 flat out. OK, that's enough about the vessel. Now onto fishing skills. The end. Seriously, I am a lousy fisherman but still have a great day every time I'm out there. And hey, you guys might learn me a thing or two and that could improve over time. If you see me out and about, please don't run me over. And come say hi. Sorry for the average pics, my potato was nearly flat.

What a great week. How they all should be.
