  1. Good afternoon gents, and of course ladies.

I haven’t been here for some time as I’ve sold my boat, cried for a few days and bought a caravan, the brides wishes and time to do some travelling.

The other day I finally got around to going through all my fishing gear.

    FOR SALE

1 x Shimano Talica 16 in packaging - used and in excellent condition.  This reel has been used maybe 3 time and I can honestly say it’s never caught a fish.  I had full intention of getting into this type of fishing, but never really did.  From memory it is spooled, I think with 300 metres of 30 or 50 kg braid.

    $400:00 ono

It can be picked up Mount Annan, NSW, or posted at buyers expense.

Hey there im considering getting a Viking 78EB. How effective would it be for bottom fishing and going for GT? Also side question is there a bag limit on Marlins?

    Length Overall (LOA): 72' 8 (22.15 m)
    Beam: 20' 0 (6.1 m)
    Draft: 5' 9 (1.75 m)

If you can afford one of these https://www.galatiyachts.com/yachts/details/2768063/2019/viking/72-convertible/72/lq07/

you go right ahead and buy it. While you are at it, you can buy a smaller boat with more manoeuvrability for chasing the GT’s

good luck on whatever you decide.

    a very nice vessel

Hey Steve, I am a motor mechanic, an exTAFE automotive and fitting and turning teacher and a secondery school manual arts teacher. I taught at Northpoint/ Bracken Ridge TAFE when it first opened. I am currently collecting some out boards in order to put together an outboard/boat and trailer service course. I worked for a short time on outboards and inboards and I do have a semiretired outboard service mechanic friend. Perhaps we could get a few interested boaties together and do a trial run to see what would be a suitable course content. The only cost would be to pass the hat round to compensate my service man for his time. I don’t know how old your post is.

Great idea Eddie.  I’m retired, but would be interested in something like this, but live Sydney

    Hello

    I have a 2001   Freedom Gateway Runabout 5 metres W/75 HP Honda 4 Strokes.

During our trip in the bay yesterday I got plenty of water on the back (around 160 litres) .

I specify that there were no big waves.

Just that when starting my boat goes bit straight for a few seconds before accelerating so that she is going finally horizontal .

it was stressful for me to remove out the water and my boat was very straight to the conduct .

When I was back home after inspection the hull is absolutely perfect but I saw where the water could surely enter.

See photos, is that normal ?

This seal must be perfectly waterproof?

Is it possible to add a pump on this type of boat ?

Yesterday the level of the water was very close to the batteries.  Is it possible to buy a waterproof box for them ?

Cheers have a good day Emma. ps hope you ll understand as french lady my tipping is no good thank you in advance

That rubber boot around the cables looks in pretty fair condition.  This is what stops the water pouring in through this area, so I don’t believe that 100+ litres have entered through here.  I’d be looking elsewhere for the major problem that the water is getting in.  You’ll be surprised how much water can get in through worn out bungs.  Next time your out, get someone one their belly having a look where water is coming from.  If there is that much coming in, surely you will see where from.  I replaced all four bungs and found a broken skin fitting that was letting water through.

I had a similar problem, and found it by looking when at sea.  There is a lot of water pressure on the boat when in the water.

    good luck and cheers

It’s just the Lowrance one, a big transducer about 10 inches long.

Do some research, there may be a way to connect the new Garmin to the current transducer. I’m not sure and definitely have no knowledge or experience in this area. Just a thought  good luck  I run a Garmin 75 with B66 Airmar thru hull transducer and more than happy with the performance, even at speed

You could well be right Ed. Not sure about transducers though.

Greg. Which transducer do you have at the moment. Is it a Lowrance or an aftermarket like Airmar

Well there you go. Shows I know nothing. Lol. I always thought you had to display your nav lights and stern light when anchored at night, and always have

This is the link to NSW rules on Boat Lighting.  I would assume the same rules apply in other states

What has everyone else's experience been with Lowrance? Got a new boat coming and it comes with a elite ti2. Tempted to upgrade to hds but am wondering if I would want to jump ship altogether.

I gave Lowrance the flick years ago. Have since been a Garmin man and they have never let me down. Currently running a Garmin 75dv with thru-hull transducer

    Hey GregOug

Yep, the weather is looking bad for all of this week... Thursday seems like the day to go out, as according to Seabreeze there'll only be 1M swell and 5 Knot winds.

ellicat and GregOug, if we are going to organise a trip hopefully the weather forecast is better next week 🙂

    Cheers Hamish

Not much better in Sydney.  Wind generally getting up around 20 knots most days.  Sunday/Monday look the best at the moment

Mate it looks good on Google.

I cant work out how to share street view but there is a nice ramp and a good pontoon there.

Thanks Drop Bear and AUS-BNE, I should have explained a little better.  I have seen on google earth that the upgrade has been completed (some time ago).  I read a couple of years ago that there was the occasional trailer being stolen from here by the local shite heads.

I’ve never used this ramp but was thinking about driving to here, putting in and giving the boat a good run down the river to Botany Bay.

    Thanks again Mick

    Hi Hweebe,

I bought a couple of those Bluetooth battery monitors after my flat battery incident on my second trip out. There’s a topic on here somewhere about that. Anyway, installed them today and guess what? They work! So long as you are within ten metres of the boat they show the current voltage, and percent full, which I’m happy to say were 97% and 100% charged.

Highly recommend, at least after one day.

    cheers

    Greg

Greg - I know this is a few months old, but can you tell me what brand Bluetooth battery monitors you purchased and where from. Thanks Mick

  12. There is a boat ramp behind the old Flower Power on Newbridge Road, Moorebank called

    DAVY ROBINSON BOAT RAMP

I’ve been told that ramp has been done up in the last couple of years.

My question is - Has anyone used this ramp recently and what is it like.
