Hey @Neil Stratford, We went to the Rous this morning and the bay was brown. Lost the only decent fish and got menaced by green sea toads. We had a shocker.
Looks like you did alright. Grassies are the favoured table fair from the bay at our place. 20lb and scull dragging them in may be the only option until the sharks go a little quieter in Autumn/Winter.

Did you happen to get a photo on a measure of any of your fish ? I've extended the North Vs South comp to be monthly. No secret signal for February.

Did a quick bay trip this morning , more shark issues , dropped three burners as they ran me through the reef , going to have up grade from 12lb to 20lb  braid to spin the odds more in my favour.

You could try going up to the Sunnycoast as there are a few rock fishing spots up there.

I feel a lot more confident with the livescope after Monduran - like any marine electronics, time on water is the key thing.  Watched every video known to mankind I think but it was a couple of solid days of use that really made the difference.  Now its time to try it in some deeper salt water.
Will see how it works around the Clara rock/boat passage reef which is only @ 10m but I guess quite disturbed from current or maybe if no cruise ships in, give it a good workout around the new terminal which is probably a better spot.  Regardless I will be using it more now I feel more confident.

Thanks a lot for the advice fatboy, appreciate it. That would be a lot of fun, and I'll try and do some sessions closer to the river mouth soon.
It was a nice snapper. 😃

Not good news ABF,  you need to give the Brisbane River a good break, maybe 4 + weeks, if we don't get anymore rain, after good rain all but the vermin make their way down to the mouth of the rivers and creeks to get a bit of salinity in the water. You need  locations that are getting a good tidal flush of salt water twice a day, maybe get your Dad to take you to Bribie if he has the time and fish maybe Woody Bay or Red Beach, both areas  get a good flush every day regardless of the rain, if you and Dad like camping on the beach, make a trip of it and take a small tent, couple of sleeping bags and get some jaffles cooking over the coals, after reading this Mangajack might even cook em for ya, good areas for flathead, dart and whiting, be a bit of an adventure hey!
    Good fishing to you

Tried everything in the box.  Jackall 79’s, Zerek Flat shads, Molix 140’s, some of my old RMG and Halco’s, B52 deep, even tried a Zerek vibe and a Zman frog for surface.   Mate even tried a curly tail to try and mix it up.
Spoke to quite a few people at ramp and accomodation and no one was getting anything so just seems they were shut down and not feeding.  Thing with the sounders you can see just how much bait is available, so unlike rivers where its more opportunistic.

It was a great trip for me…so much time to spend on my electronics and really get a better feel for it.  The LVS is definitely a great thing to actually see if fish are there and look forward to being more targetted with it around the river etc.

I'm not sure what's worse. Last time I was there (maybe 15 years ago) @rayke1938 was typically cleaning up on the barra, so he took me and a couple of other members out to get us a barra. To that point none of us had got one. Sure enough one of the other members hooks up and lands a nice one. We were trolling and it was agreed that the next hookup I would take. Soon after, there was a hookup. I took the rod and wound in a big cattie. Aaaarrrrggghhh. haha  I still haven't caught even one.

Mate and I decided to try our hand at Monduran.  It must be 20 years since I was last up there and the water level was much lower (currently only 1m below spill way) which may be why we had success 20 years ago with no sounder and no idea - there was definitely a lot of water and I am sure it spreads the fish out.
So short hand version - saw plenty on the sidescan and even more on the Livescope.  recorded the livescope and its quite interesting as you can actually measure the fish - had 3 fish that would have been the magic meter all within casting zone and could not get them interested.
And that was it, 4 sessions, and not one strike - didnt feel too bad because everyone we spoke to was exactly the same…zero fish and worked hard for nothing.
Dam was pure, did all my high school in Bundy and played junior golf comps at Gin Gin and have no recollection of it being so green.  Really nice time to visit.  Temps were quite mild with the SE wind.  Still obviously summer but not ultra humid like Bris when we left.

According the almanac it should have been excellent fishing conditions, but clearly fresh water barra cannot read.  NE winds are apparently preferred but we still found plenty of fish just could not raise a bite.
If I can find a storage solution I will share a screen recording of the livescope.  It was my first chance to just work it really hard and play around with things to see what worked or not.  Much easier than when you are getting bounced in the ocean or river to sit on the gunnell and tinker.
So report is - saw lots, caught zero 😀

I used to do lots of rock fishing at Double Island Point, Noosa Heads and Lion Rock...mainly for jew with snapper and kings as bycatch.
More local to Brisbane the selections are pretty sparse...and pretty lame fishing to be honest.
Try looking for places like the rock drop off at Banksia Beach almost directly at the end of Sunderland drive.....only fishable 2 hours either side of low tide but it does produce some nice snapper at times. There are quite a few ledges along the Bribie Passage like this.
To be honest, if you are after snapper specifically, try and locate cockle beds...they produce good fish with less annoying small squire....less numbers but far better quality.
These days I tend to ignore popular places and explore for far more subtle grounds that are less pressured.
Keep in mind current patterns and convergences.....they are feeding lanes for fish that sit almost stationary waiting for the food to come to them.

    Hi all,
I've been out for two pretty terrible sessions the last two weeks. The first session was at Newfarm on a Friday night. When we arrived the water was very dirty, but my Dad had a go with the cast net to see if there were any prawns around yet (as previous years we have caught good numbers of them around this time). Unfortunately, there were no prawns to be seen, although someone did hook something alright that broke them off. I had a flick with a soft vibe for no bites.
    Stats:
    Tide: 9:00PM, .8M, Low.
    Moon Phase: 60%
    Air Pressure: 998
    Humidity: 59%
    Overall Success Rate: 10%
The second session was this morning at Mt Crosby. I had a bit of a dilemma about where to go yesterday but Mt Crosby was definitely the wrong choice.
My Dad and I arrived a bit later than usual, but we still had our first casts a bit before 6. The water was chocolate, and despite the .1M low tide it was still higher than usual due to a lot of water overflowing from the weir. This was pretty disappointing, as it meant the fishing was going to be tricky, but we continued to move around between spots. At about 7 though, with no bites and the sun coming up, we decided to call it quits. I probably won't go back to Mt Crosby until it stops raining for a while. I don't know where I will go fishing next weekend, probably somewhere in the river with livies or lures again.
    Stats:
    Tide: 7:40AM, .1M, Low.
    Moon Phase: New Moon
    Air Pressure: 1010
    Humidity: 94%
    Overall Success Rate: 5%
    Anyway, thanks for reading,
    Cheers, Hamish.
