  1. Good stuff. Make awesome reef bait and great Sashimi.
  2. I used to have one of those until it blew up. I will have to borrow my uncle's. Here are the images:
  3. I will put a photo up when I get home. The bearing is rusty and it's not old grease or corrosion. I have polished off some of the rust but much still exists.
  4. Hello everyone, Does anyone have any jigging combos for sale or trade in the Cairns area? I may drive a little for the right combo. I have family in Innisfail so can go there. I may buy but have some quality reels I would like to trade. Thanks
  5. Hello everyone, I have started to take apart a free Daiwa Exceler 4000TW. I have already replaced the roller clutch bearing but need to replace a seized bearing on the shaft (the one that sits under the roller clutch bearing). The bearing is fully seized and won't budge. I have no leverage so need to find another way (as it sits in a recess). I have soaked it for days with no luck. What should I do now? Thanks and tight lines.
  6. If you hook a good size jack in open water. He will just run like a freight train. You want as much line capacity as possible. I would go a bit lighter. Braid is so strong these days, the rating usually refers to the diameter.
  7. Hi all, I have a Shimano TLD10 I am restoring. All I have to do is put in my new bearings and it is done. The reel works like a brand new reel as it had little use and I polished all the gears. I have put many hours into this reel and am looking to sell it or possibly trade it (and a few other reels I have) for a jigging combo. Cosmetically, the reel is in pretty good condition. All the text is there and there aren't many scratches. I believe every scratch tells a story so the ones that are there give it some character. The reel was used before I acquired it so it has caught some good reef fish. If I was to sell this, what should I be asking? I was talking to my tackle store and they said I could get at least $200 for it. I just want to see everyone out there thinks. Thanks
  8. No thanks. I can make my own base plate for it.
  9. It's for putting on line. They are the best quality possible and made in Australia. I only use bulk spools of line so need a serious spooler. The one I made just doesn't cut it. The one I am looking at is online and has free shipping so if I don't find any locally, I will just get it from there.
  10. I found one new for $125.10 (in my budget) but I am just wondering if I could get one locally.
  11. Hi everyone, I am just wondering if anyone is selling a fishing line spooler in Cairns. I am looking at the 'bees knees line spooler' but am wondering if anyone is selling one or something similar secondhand. Thanks
  12. You are right. How come they don't have the stripes over there flank?
  13. That is a beautiful catch of Nannies. We found that in Arlington, we caught mostly trout (as we fished in only 20- 30m of water). There was one spot that was a Nanny haven. It was non- stop for the whole trip. It was also the one time I wasn't available to fish that day. I was so annoyed when I heard what they caught that day.
  14. Off Cairns, there are very few 'inshore' reefs. The closest reef that is extremely productive (Arlington Reef), is about 42km out to sea. There are some awesome reefs (Noggin reef and the likes) more than 70km away. Off Port Douglas, there are a few reefs that can be classified as 'inshore'. Frankland Islands are a great place to fish as they are only 11km out to sea. In Cairns, there a some 'closer' reefs called Sudbury and Staggs Patches. These have been fished hard but slowly regaining as people don't class them as productive anymore so they don't get fished as much as they used to. Some good Spanish Mackerel get caught there every year though.
  15. I feel for you mate. I have never had a bad day reef fishing. It is truly the best.

    Shimano Torsa

Hey mate. There is a Shimano Torsa in Cairns for $595. It looks brand new and I am sure it feels brand new in the hands as well. A bit out of your price range but will last you forever with proper care.
  17. Thanks. I have had an Ugly Stik in the past and they are fantastic. The Terez series are top notch but that particular rod is way too long. I have decided only going a few inches above 6 feet if I have too. Thanks for the article as well Hamish. I know that a Daiwa Saltiga is been sold for $120 (its an old model but in great nick) on Facebook so I might have to have a look at that. I don't really know what to get. I'm not in a rush as I have many other rods so will just wait for a good deal.
  18. Thanks. I will just have to go to the tackle store with my reel and try each rod with it.
  19. Yeah. I use a Penn International with a Wilson Live Fibre at the moment but I got the Saragosa for cheap so will slap a rod on it and give it a whirl.
  20. Hi all, I have just gotten a Saragosa 8000SW and am after a rod for it. I am leaning at more of a 'jigging rod' style to feel the bites better. The outfit will be used for bottom bashing for Cairns reef species and estuary live baiting. I only have reef fishing experience with rods under 6 feet but want a longer (6 foot 2 or 3) rod to fish the estuaries with. I just would like some advice on what length rod I should go for to use for reef fishing and estuary fishing. I know some people will think I am crazy for fishing a reef combo in the estuary but the jigging rods I am looking at bend really easily yet have a strong butt end and can really pull some serious fish up. Thanks everyone for your help and tight lines.
  21. You will be fine. I remember going to Fitzroy Island in a 5.1m Quintrex TopEnder. It was 20knots and we got there alive. Formosa's are made tough and are great boats. You should be safe as long as you plan a good route and have more fuel than you need. Extra fuel will add more weight and, theoretically, it should give you a softer ride.
  22. Is it on the Brisbane River?
  23. A shallow reef of a headland on the East Coast?
  24. Someone else can go. All my files are archived and I need to dig them out.
