Aus Dave reacted to gungadin in Sounder Settings - What Settings Do You Always Change
Not so much of a sounder setting, but rather something I have found out over time. If you leave your sounder/gps on board your boat with the connections still plugged in the back(rather then physically remove it) you should consider installing a switch to cut off the power to the unit. My units have direct connections to the battery, and of course I turn them off when not in use. However because there is still power going to the head unit, the pins that connect are susceptible to corrosion (that green stuff). Yes I use dielectric grease, but the corrosion can still occur. Adding a toggle switch on the power in side, cuts the power to the head unit and this corrosion no longer occurs.

Aus Dave got a reaction from Angry51 in Fuel Consumption
Hey guys I thought I'd give you an update. I had the outboard serviced yesterday and that had a massive affect on the fuel usage. I took her out today I the river so I could take photos of what I was getting. So now my max WOT is up to 5700rpm and my fuel consumption at 4300rpm is 3km/L. I've chucked a couple of pics on. I have no idea what they did but it's way better. They reckon the fuel filter needed changing so that's their answer. I'm still thinking of dropping a prop size but this is a good start. It's only a new boat for me so I'll work it out. I'll keep you all posted on what happens

Ok I've found the size, it was on behind the nut. It looks like 13.25 X 21. I'll attach the best photo I could get

Aus Dave got a reaction from Drop Bear in Fuel Consumption
Hi guys I just bought a 2017 Barcrusher XS535 with a Suzuki 100A outboard. I took it out on the weekend and was a bit disappointed with the fuel consumption. Running about 4200rpm on calm seas the best I was getting was 2km/L. But the funny thing is we copped it on the way home, over a metre of choppy as, wind vs current and that didn't really change the consumption, only going down to 1.9km/L. My old boat with a yamy got me 4km/L at full noise. My fishing spot is 100kms away from the ramp so at this rate I'm looking at using the full 100L just in travel.
I'm thinking of getting a smaller prop as unloaded I'm maxing out at 5400 rpm.
Any ideas?

Aus Dave reacted to Ed. in Motor Supports
The bracket keeps the motor leg raised off the ground and is not reliant on the hydraulic ram to keep the leg up, on my particular trailer, if I travel with my motor down, my skeg would be about 50mm off the ground, so if I travel at speed on a highway and hit a deep pothole then you can imagine what damage it would sustain. If I rely solely on the hydraulics to keep my leg above the ground, the same result would happen if the hydraulics lost pressure, the leg would drop down and being in the drivers seat I wouldn't know about it till I hit that pothole. This bracket keeps the leg at a set height so if the hydraulics fail for what ever reason, the leg would still be supported at that set height by the bracket.
