Jono4500 reacted to AUS-BNE-FISHO in success! [brisbane river session #248]
    Hi all,
I snuck out for a quick flick this morning in the river, hoping for something decent. The morning didn't start off great as I slept in, but I still managed to ride and arrive at the spot of choice by six. With the tide still running out, I was hopeful of a few baitfish, but I could hardly scrape together enough to continuously fish. Eventually I saw something of interest, a flathead lie. Maybe I will try flicking some lures around here the next time I'm fishing at high tide. I also caught a small flathead and flounder in the net, so clearly some more bottom dwelling fish get around here.

    Flathead Lie
As I continued to grind away for livebait, I saw someone drive by with a fully decked out lure fishing boat, which would be pretty cool to have. I didn't see him catch anything when he was fishing nearby though. Things just seemed to get worse for me though, as I managed to rip a couple of holes in my net that will need to be stitched to fix up. All my livies also kept seeming to get pickered but I never saw any bites.
After about one and a half hours of fishing for absolutely nothing, I was out of bait and energy. I sorted all my gear out and had a drink, before getting back to netting. Here, I was lucky enough to net a nice size bony bream, which I chucked out on a 4/o circle hook pinned through the nose. I got back to the cast netting, and with no other rods out things weren't looking good... But then, I saw my rod get a couple of distinct hits before buckling over. I jogged back and as the fish went for another long run, I tightened my drag and the fight began.
It wasn't long before more line was peeling off of my spool, and I was starting to get a bit nervous as the fish was running dangerously close to a very snaggy rocky ledge. Luckily, I managed to turn its head, and it slowly started to come back towards me. A few more cranks and I could see my sinker, then swivel... Sure enough, it was what I wanted! But the fight wasn't over yet, as the thready shot back down into the depths. After about 3 more minutes of fighting with some screaming runs on my 4000 reel, I managed to bend over and grab the fish in the mouth, landing it successfully. Nice. I got a walker to take a couple pics for me, before venting and successfully releasing the fish. The thready came in between 105-110cm, I don't know for sure as I didn't have it perfectly aligned on the brag mat. Although not quite a new PB, still a solid fish, and my first in ages.

    Thready
It was only about 8:15AM when I had that all sorted, so I netted and fished for a bit longer, catching one catfish, before riding home. On the way home, one of my rods fell through the floor of my bike buggy, and some pipes scratched another one of my rods up pretty bad, but at least I caught that thready. 🙂
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed. I probably won't be able to go fishing for a few weeks now because of school, so it was a good way to finish up.

I've got a few secret spots, but I'm very careful with mine, I don't even tell the fish where they are haha

Jono4500 reacted to Lil Peep in 🎣 fishing report: landing a monster - my 42cm bream in the brisbane river 🐟
    Hello my fellow anglers,
I had an incredible day on the Brisbane River yesterday while the kids were at school, and I can't wait to share the thrilling story of my latest catch with you. I was out on my trusty boat, anchored at one of my secret spots along the riverbank, just as the sun began to set, casting a warm, golden glow over the water.
The conditions were perfect, and I had a hunch that something special was lurking beneath the surface. I cast my line out, letting it drift with the current, and settled into my usual routine of waiting and watching. The breeze gently rustled the leaves on the trees, and the water made soothing sounds as it lapped at the boat's edge. It's moments like these that remind me why I fell in love with fishing all those years ago.
Then, suddenly, I felt a strong, unmistakable pull on my line. It was unlike anything I'd ever experienced. The reel whizzed, and I knew I was in for a fight. With adrenaline pumping through my veins, I let it run then I tightened the drag and started reeling in, and it felt like the bream was determined to test my skills.
After what seemed like an eternity, I finally glimpsed a flash of silver beneath the water. It was a colossal common bream, easily 42cm in length. My heart was racing as I carefully maneuvered the fish closer to the boat. Every twitch of its tail was a testament to its strength and resilience.
With a practiced hand, I scooped up the massive bream into my net, and there it was—a true river giant. The feeling of triumph and respect for this majestic fish was overwhelming.
I measured and admired it for a moment, taking care to handle the fish gently before releasing it back into the river, where it disappeared into the depths. It was a beautiful, heart-pounding encounter with nature's greatness.
This catch, my friends, was one for the record books, a testament to the wonders that the Brisbane River holds. It's experiences like these that keep me coming back to the water, time and time again, in pursuit of the next unforgettable adventure.
Until next time, tight lines and thrilling moments on the Brisbane River!
    Tight lines,
    Lil Peep 🌊🎣

Admin does this site for free in his spare time and he is extremely busy running his own business and he is not a computer expert, Brian ( Ellicat) does an excellent job as a moderator. Site needs someone with technical ability to volunteer to assist when there is a problem. I do not think the site would survive if members had to pay to maintain the site. Is there a difference between a code in a photo and just in someones post. cheers Ray

My bags are packed, and funny enough 80% of it is fishing gear.
Half my clothes are in my wife's bags.
I've got a big box of suitable lures all with single circle hooks fitted, I've got a pair of Nitro Bonecrusher 7ft travel rods rods, PE2-4 and PE 2-6 with a Stella 5000 and a Baitrunner LC med for the heavy bait rod and a couple of spare reels for rods over there too.
Hooks, burley feeders, multiple spare 65lb and 20lb shimano grapler braid spools, 20lb, 30lb, 60lb and 100lb fluorocarbon and all the bits and bobs to keep things running.
Why, for a month over in Thailand with around 8-10 days fishing in parks around Bangkok and two weeks in the mountains helping with the harvest and fishing in my very own heavily stocked fishing pond. It's probably got close to 1000 fish in it now so it's going to be called catching, not fishing.
But you can expect even demand some decent Arapima, my main goal this trip is to land a 200lb one, some big Amazon red tail of course, heaps of Mekong catfish and Siamese giant carp and some nuisance alligator gar.
But what I'd really like this trip is a great Tapah or failing that a Piraiba and a Tarpon if possible. But I do plan on exploring more small parks in Bangkok for smaller species that I haven't caught before and hopefully a really big Giant snakehead. Maybe with some street fishing around town thrown in.
So as I finish a days fishing I'm going to put a bit of a report up here in this post about where I went and what got caught.
With the obligatory photos of course.
So finger's crossed its a good one, it's been 3 whole years in the making so the wife is being very generous with my fishing time.

Stockyard Point is the southern bank of Poverty Creek on Bribie.
It used to be named Stockyard Point decades ago...obviously reverted back to Poverty.
