  1. I could make some, but the fishing parks definitely wouldn't approve and once the thai police got involved then my stay would definitely be involuntarily increased to the maximum they would be allowed to house me for,and that definitely wouldn't be as fun as a fishing park.
  2. Pretty much, but in thailand they fill a cage with burley and have one to four hooks on anywhere from 2" to 6" of braid. Sometimes they have a bit of bait on the hook, worms, bread, corn or a bit of dough bait. When the burley gets attention they stir the ground up and then suck in the suspended particles in the water. But you can use a dissolving bag of burley as well, but everyone uses a cage over there. If I can pick up a new trick that might improve my strike rate then even better. I might even use meat pellets as boilies and crush some up as burley for predators. It just depends what the park is feeding what fish species.
  3. Basically little floating foam balls the size of a boilie, you soak them in scent and float the hook under them so they are off the bottom, you can even use a real boilie under them.
  4. There definitely used to be Mary River cod, I was living right up near Ipswich back in the early 2000's and caught a couple that I thought were Murry cod but and old fella said they were Mary river cod. But I went back after the floods and had a fish when I was living in Brisbane about 10 years later and everything looked so much different and I never caught another one. I also caught my 3rd biggest flathead at the same spot which was in fresh water, that was just a couple of km's below the weir. Never caught a yellow belly, bit of a shame.
  5. I'm putting some floating and sinking pellets on order, a bunch more burley cages and some floating foam boilies. I might get some hook springs too, make any dough bait stick on better, the same with bread. One thing I noticed watching a few videos on fishing over there, is that the fish weren't feeding on the bait quite like I thought they did, so a little tweek and a bit of practice and I might be catching more in the future.
  6. After being out of action for a while with some bad stress fractures to the knee I spent a bit of downtime watching monster carp. On top of that we're booked into finally heading back to Thailand for a month's holiday so it might be a good idea to practice the same bait fishing technique they use over there, that is also very similar to how those fellas fish for carp. So it might be a bit easier on the legs and be good practice to see if I can bag myself a 30lb carp. So it might be time to dig out some burley cages and try some different hook set ups, I figure if it works good here, then it should work really well in a fish park. It might even be effective in miniature for fishing for stocked trout in some ponds that I know.
  7. The funny thing is that looks like a selection of lures/jigs for trout fishing around here. Some of those look really good.
  8. After you spend an hour or more reeling one into the shore, we'll let's just say there's nothing placid about getting the hook out.
  9. I'm fairly confident that at the time old mate didn't give a crap about what species the shark was.
  10. That's definitely a nasty turn of events, not something I'd want to experience.
  11. Sounds like your wirking things out there, only way to go from here is up.
  12. I still use powdered milk when camping, just stir it straight in with the coffee then add hot water. I've also used it a lot for making milk vodka, that's spirit made from milk alone. Definitely different it's like vodka with a buttery finish.
  13. Nothing wrong with a few beers while fishing, a few too many is definitely a problem. When I go out for a few hours fishing on the boat with a mate there's always a 6 pack in the esky. 3 beers over 4-5 hours is plenty sensible and plenty refreshing, if you want to see irresponsible then watch the water ski crews, seen no end of them that were a, danger to themselves and others. The key to anything like that is moderation, a little self control and not carrying on like a ******. The trouble with wankers like that mob is they encourage others to be wankers too and that soon messes things up for everyone. But if they break enough gear being morons then reality soon sets in as that's an expensive lifestyle to life.

    tanning skins

That might be why they say kiwi's have such soft hands, and thighs.
  15. Let me know how it goes then, that's one way to get an answer.
  16. I thought I might weigh it down, but it only sits in an inch and a half of water. I could easily fit the wife in as well. But then it was designed for big American red neck and a large Labrador to carry a heap of duck decoys out and then spend the morning/afternoon hunting in it. So it is surprisingly roomy and can carry a load. It's perfect for what I've been chasing for years.
  17. On an impulse yesterday I bought myself a little sneak boat/duck boat that I happened across online. I've been after a little aluminium canoe for a while now, mostly because I never thought I'd find something like this in Australia, so score. I took it out for a run today and it's way more stable then the Seak Hybrid Kayak I have, no heavier and paddles pretty good. It won't win a speed contest but it's a perfect shallow water sneak boat that's comfortable to travel in, it's easy to get in and out of and will make a geat fishing and duck hunting boat. Think it might end up with a 100ah lithium battery and a 24lb watersnake kayak motor.

I used alum when I was a kid, but it used to give me a rash. Brains is easy and cheap and luckily every animal skin comes with one complete brain.
  19. Get one like you had, I've never gotten 10 years from a battery. Although as far as AGM go the odyssey battery is the best AGM around.

    tanning skins

I like brain tanning, I just flesh a hide using a pressure washer, stretch and dry it, paint on the brains and your GTG. Well for a rug anyway, you can smoke it or treat it with softening treatments if you want it pliable.
  21. There is an opposite side to that coin. One of the mechanics at work was doing up a cheap 4X4 for our off road adventures. He had got it mechanically back to top condition, put in some LSD's and painted it, he had just finished putting on a bull bar and winch and it was time for new tires. He dropped it off on the way to to work and picked it up that arvo. He gave it bit of the old buhh and shine and then drove to work the next morning in the rain. When he got to the workshop he was furious, they had messed up his wheel alignment so bad he could barely keep it on the road, he called them up and abused the crap out of them. We were having a smoke and looking it over at smoko, and we had to admit it looked bloody good, one bloke said at least they got the tires looking damn shiny, he said I did that when I got home. I had a closer look and something hit me, so I asked him "the tread looks bloody shiny too, you didn't put tire sine on it too did you?" He answered yes and we pissed ourselves laughing, even made him call the tire place up and apologise, and explain that the problem was he was a ham fisted numpty, not them.
  22. I see what you did there. Might actually go Sunday actually, that will let me get a few things sorted out before I go. Give the quad a bit of a final adjustment, get the new rifle ready to zero, get an extra waterproof meat bag in my backpack ect. I'd love to catch him a trout, but I hate fishing on the weekend.
  23. Might pop out again tomorrow actually, mostly because I think I left a kayak paddle out there, but I might as well have a bit of a hunt while I'm at it.
