Nice work. Sounds like a great day. What time did you head back ? The wind picked up a bit of pace when it turned up.

Retirement is tough, but days like that make it worthwhile. haha

All of the weather models showed the change @ 11am so that was the call.  I think we could have done maybe another hour but would have been a bit rougher crossing back across northern bay until behind Bribie.

I wanted to head out to the FADS or Hutchies but it just didnt seem like it was going to settle down and of course why leave somewhere when you are catching.

Anyway North vs South - I am a southsider but was fishing on the north side, how will that go?

  2. I would see what everyone else is using and base my decision off what I see being used.  ie are a lot in 4.5m boats or are most in 5m plus.

Something like my Formosa would be nice over there as you can do most things in it.  Plus a plate alloy boat is less likely to have the fatigue of a pressed alloy boat or any potential softness like an older glass boat.

  3. Mate and I are looking at heading further south than normal tomorrow to escape the likely 10-15knot slop that a trip over to the sandhills would bring based on forecast.

Was thinking of hiding in and around Coochie and Macleay area to escape the wind and see if we can pick up a feed of whiting.

Anyone got some starting areas we can have a poke around please?

    Thanks

    Craig

  4. Anyone using Predict Wind for boating forecasts.  Mate uses it for sailing and reckons its pretty good.

Based on what I see it looks pretty good for a free service.  I would love to know whether any fisho’s use it and rate it.

Just had a look at their line prices - bl00dy cheap!

What is their freight charge like ? (Too lazy to look for myself)

AUD$30 for the reel, line and two lures.

And because they are low volume export to Aus, no GST chargeable.

Digitaka is pretty similar but they didnt have the lure I wanted.  I have bought reels with split rings, BKK and Owner trebles etc and just manage the order to keep the shipping cost down.  I think I have enough terminal gear for a couple of years :- )

  6. All the words are there to tell you its made off shore not in Aus.  Is that good or bad….time will be the only test of that.

I am sitting here in my chinese built but locally fitted out hybrid camper van next to a creek loving everything about it but this is about the 3rd generation of this model van so they are now quite sorted.

  7. Sounds like you would be better with a 54” and agree, you want spot lock as a priority.

Something that interfaces with your sounder so you can run a route and then have the leccy run it at whatever speed is also really handy as that way you can just run along a bank slowly casting snags and not have to worry about the controls.  That or you would need to be able to stand and use the foot remote.

  8. I had a look at Youtube to alter it but alas no luck.

First stop is Clairview, wont get the boat wet but have two days in Townsville after that and apparently the wind is easing early next week so might get a decent chance there.

Some chance the wind is easing @ Wed- Friday in Cooktown so if its a chance its reef on Thursday and maybe duck up around Cape Bedford.  Otherwise we will fish Endeavour and Annand Rivers Friday to Sunday and see whether the barra are around.
