ellicat reacted to mangajack in Anzac Day 2024 - Redcliffe to the Pine
Tailor have been a problem for me since early December.....I try and avoid them.

usually it is polyethylene.....grades vary greatly.
UHMWPE is a high end version of this.....you do not need that high a quality plastic.
Holland Plastics, PM Plastics, Nerang Plastics all will have what you are looking for.
A google search will give you dozens of suppliers near you.

Dug a few worms yesterday and headed down the Pin area in search of a few whiting . Ended up getting 10 for a feed but the size was down with most fish just over the 300 mm mark but had to sort through a lot of small bream for them.
Came across a massive school of juvenile mulloway ,so tossed some soft plastics at them and got 6 in no time before I spooked them ,pity they were all underside fish , with a small flathead thrown in as by catch.
Happy enough to come home with 10 whiting , with all other fish released.
photographed these for the southside
Mulloway 630 , 610 and 500mm
Bream 290 and 265mm
Flathead 470mm
Whiting 330 mm , 340mm and 335mm

ellicat got a reaction from Sasha Hess in Spinning of SEQ Rocks, weight-rating of rod?
Welcome to the AFO forum, @Nrgised.
A tough one. My first instinct would be to go the 9' to enhance your ability to land some of the bigger specimens like Yellowtail Kingfish, Cobia, Spanish Macks, Mulloway etc that you are a chance of getting off the rocks around SEQ. But you will lose casting distance with the heavier and shorter rod.
The 10'9" rod would be my next pick. Casting distance and the ability to load up with a heavier lure should see you reach a bit further with a cast. The 10'3" would be the most fun to fish with, but paired with a decent reel should get you there mostly, but would be more difficult to control a fish from the bottom of the rocks once you get a fish close.
I think you could end up with a collection. haha

ellicat got a reaction from Sasha Hess in Kayak & Land Fishing Victoria Point QLD
Yep, that's the way to reply.
It is a stones throw from the ramp at Victoria Point, like a few hundred metres, Have a look on Google Maps. It's actually called Coochiemudlo Island. Pretty small, but a 30 minute battery would not be enough. Definitely look to up the battery amp hours to give yourself a few hours of moving and fishing. If cost isn't an issue, look at getting a lithium battery.
Reversing trailers is one of my least favoured tasks, but you would get better the more practice you have. Viccy Point ramp on the Coochie side is a long reverse, so I wouldn't practice there.

Definitely get a sounder on your yak. Cruise around Coochie and you will find some reefy structure that can produce snapper and bream. 4/0 circle with some cuttlefish for bait.

Nice fish ! Would have put up a great fight.
I caught my first one at 36cm a couple of weeks ago at Harry's that went pretty hard for its size. I've been seeing quite a few being reported on Facebook too.

Some nice low 20s while at work.
24 for a bream, 22 for the other one and the cod.
Hopefully something bigger lurking around!

Another quietish day upstream at hinze eastern arm . 25 bass between 19 and 43cm plus a sickish looking saddleback yella that Joy recaptured . She had tagged it back on 16/11/23. All caught on live shrimp and tagged and released.

For me I get up to about 10 of these fish a year in SEQ.
I am not sure if they are more numerous now or our techniques and lures have changed that is enticing more bites.
II regularly caught smaller models in the 80's in Bribie Passage....usually on small live baits.
These days I catch larger models on soft plastics off Redcliffe, at the Port and in the Pine River usually.....mostly around the 60cm mark.....I think the presentation is the key to not catching many or any small ones these days.

ellicat reacted to AUS-BNE-FISHO in Moreton Bay Barred javelin
Nice fish! I've caught one about that size in the Brisbane River plus a few smaller models on dead flesh baits and seen a few smaller ones caught periodically on livies normally. Usually in the warmer months.
I've also heard live prawns are a good bait.
