    Broncos $3.36 outsiders this week (so far). Very juicy odds when you look at the Panthers' bench that includes three ex-Tigers players..

    Reynolds and Hass are big outs.

    Autopilot wise, I tossed up about this when we bought the boat, didn't do it, then after the first couple of trips went and got it added. One of the best mods I've done. We fish out of Cairns and do a fair bit out wide, when travelling for an hour, or even only going a few klms it makes the trip so more pleasant. One of the best add-ons I've done.

    @GregOug did you go autopilot as well?

    i realise I have much to learn about the new electronics and other goodies onboard. Auto-pilot, radar, fishpoint, track point, joystick, etc etc.

    Would love to try and setup radar to pickup birds and some topwater action! Have read this can be just as good as scanning underwater 🙂

  4. @Muzza P its a long shot but deep in the network settings > "data sources" menus you can configure what devices / transducers provide SOG, Depth, Temp, heading etc.

    Maybe check here that you have configured depth on the installed transducer and not something else.

    I looked at Garmin but it was 10k for the package & the Lowrance was only 7k. So, I put that 3k towards a lonestar anchor winch package.

    Wow price of electronics is really getting up (especially if you go Garmin).

    The HDS 16 Live would look awesome on the dash 🙂. I'm happy with my dual screen setup with a HDS 12 Live (for targeting fish) and @GregOug hand me down HDS live for navigation.

    On the HDS 12 - 4 way split was just a bit too small (Chart, Down, Structure, Side) but on a HDS 16 i reckon this would definitely work.

    Not as tough as Roosters in Vegas. 🤪🤣

    I genuinely think last year was our chance gone begging. Premiership window is closing fast.

    Few things bringing us back to the pack:

    • Reynolds not getting any younger - I would say we are just barely managing his  age decline. Prime Reynolds is over which will mean Mann needs to step up.
    • Flegler / Pakasia / Capewell is a huge loss in depth which we haven't replaced. (Fletcher Baker or not)
    • The big one and most underated was Herbie. Genuine metre eater, yardage.
    • Teams know and have figured our Bronx are 1 trick Reece show. Need likes of Cobbo / Staggs to be threats otherwise Broncos attack is too predictable (pass it to Reece). It might be effective week to week, but in the finals when all the plays have been exposed. Defence coordinators can commit to planning a counter.

    I think Bronx are being overhyped this year. They will make the 8 but I think the team they had on the park last year was better.

  7. I think you are on the mark at looking at a 6m plate for your purposes (usually 2 up) and tame bar crossing, 15nm. I'd only going bigger again if you wanted to go wider to shelf.

    This is my rule of thumb $10k per meter of plate boat (decent secondhand)

    5m = $50k

    6m = $60k

    7m = $70k

    So if you are considering the bigger boat it works out to be $10k for that extra 1m of room 🙂

    Remember its $60k purchase, but likely you will mod and make additions /electronics on top of the purchase price.

  8. There is a knack to it.

    Once you have the flatty on the water surface you start the swing....you have to commit to getting it over the railing 🙂  in one go.

    As soon as the water is not holding the fishes weight - Gravity is your enemy and that is when hooks get pulled.

    So its a swing from the water surface (almost sling shoting it) straight up and over.

    With a softer rod this isn't possible to sling shot over. You really are just scull dragging the fish out of the water.

  9. $60k is definitely on the low end for a NEW platey. You would have to compromise on size (length) to fit into that budget and be on the water.

    I would go secondhand brand name platey in that price range.

    Questions:

    1) What's the bar crossing like in your area? Is it relatively tame or sketchy?

    2) How many people will be fishing onboard?

    3) How far is the run to your offshore spots? What's your ideal cruising speed / motor hp combo?
