    Cheers.

    Yep, that's the one.

My gut feel is this issue and previous issue where you've been losing power / rpm point to fuel system.

Could be any of Fuel pump / Fuel line (air leak, clog, corroded hoses) / Bad fuel / Water in Fuel

Needless to say fuel issues are harder to diagnose....

Is the problem now permanent? and not intermittent like before?

Keep an eye on your battery voltage.

On the Lowrance sounder there is data overlay to display the battery voltage + you can set an alert for when there is a voltage drop below a user defined voltage (i think I set mine to 12v).  A soon to die battery will normally still start the outboard but will trigger the alert (under 12v). If this alert becomes more frequent or is consistently popping up on each start this will give you an early sign for when your battery is on the way out or needs a trickle charge.

Yeah, I got sounder 1 couple years ago.

But they reckon sounders 2 is the one to do now.

Same - got the sounder courses in a "one off" discount for fathers day special. Did both courses / setup the sounder and I don't think i've logged in since.

The number #1 thing i learnt was to get your sounder scroll speed right and keep the boat speed always consistent when you are exploring and sounding around.

That way you are always comparing fish arches "like for like" if the scroll speed or your boat speed differs each time you sound around this will give you differing fish arches.

The other thing was using down scan and side scan to explore is a game changer in terms of covering areas. Look for shadows to determine if there is fish.

I find using down/side scan much easier to spot fish compared to traditional sonar in the bay (10 -30m water)

I bought most of them a year or so ago but I'm getting too old for school. I just want someone to come out with me, set my sounder up properly and show me how to use it.

Nick would be the one then - Maybe you get Kat on board and you split the course costs. Just got to decide who will do the note taking 🙂

  5. Depends where you plan to go and if there is mobile signal coverage.

I dabbled with an iphone / ipad (hot spotted) similar to Ellicat. It kills the battery on both the phone and ipad having the app and hotspot on with phone.

You could run a charger but both the iphone and ipad warmed up and ran hot with the app going (not sure what this would do to device longevity)

After trialling this setup I went the second chart plotter option (your old Lowrance HDS Live) for charting - If you have the console space I much prefer this setup.

    Benefits:

    • No cellular reception issues - reception with even Telstra in the bay can be patchy
    • No phone overheating issues
    • One less thing to remember to bring on the boat (because that list just keeps getting longer)

I haven't really found a need for auto routing in the bay so that would be one pro for the ipad setup.

My backup if the sounder dies on the water is the phone with cmaps and if all else fails a compass 😂

  6. Munster turning down $5.6m for a $4m contract with the storm.

Makes me think his manager (Braith Anasta) was just trying to pump up Melbs low ball $800k price (albiet Munster is currently on $1.2m)

Tigers and Dolphins were never really in the hunt. I'm calling it Dolphins for the spoon under Wayne Bennett

Damn, I hate tying braid to leader on the boat

What's your goto braid to leader connection.

I know people rave about the FG knot but my dodgy on boat knot tying skills means i just do a simpler albright knot (albeit bulkier)

  8. Nothing is safe even from fellow boatie/fishos.

Interesting how it happen when you were away in Darwin. Neighbourhood job?

Can't imagine the top cowling would be worth anything to someone unless they had the same motor and needed a new cowling.

Or it could be a neighbour messing with your property, where is the boat / trailer parked?

  9. Really feel for you Ed, hopefully the end of this saga is in sight.

Most of my holiday / leave is taken as road trips around Australia in my own car, I've often thought about what would happen if I break down 1000km+ away from home.

The thought of the costs / expense have always been to scary to think about (so i just bury them)

Makes me wonder why there isn't some domestic travel insurance that would cover your type of scenario (although I've never really looked into it)

Sounds like a great day out.  Glad to see you have both got a fishing buddy.  I love bank fishing.  To be honest sometimes I think I like fishing from the land more than a boat!

You will also need a well paying job to be able to afford the petrol to drive yourselves around 😸.

I thought initially after I bought a boat that all my fishing would be exclusively by boat, however this hasn't been the case.

It's definitely good to have options for fishing though, boat, land, beach etc.

With the boat there is a bit of a pre-trip / post-trip process involved for an actual fishing session, whereas land based I can decide almost on a dime to pack the tackle bag, couple of rods, maybe a cast net, some comfortable chairs and I'm set - Call it back to basics fishing if you will.
