  1. Mate I normally head to spot and sound from there until I get some action either bites or sounder images, then hit mark on your sounder and keep drifting over that until the bite goes cold and then move to next mark, or keep sounding for further signs of fish, mark and drop again. Just watch the swell out there and the time period between the swells, I normally give it a miss after 1.8 mtrs of swell , and never bother if the time intervals are less than 7 seconds, wind no more than 13 knts normally
  2. Mate I'm out of Manly at the Trailer Boat Club, the area that I fish is on the eastern side of Moreton Island, snapper and grassies you will find along the 30 mtr contour line and it's really close to the beach. From the 30 mtr line to the 100 mtr line ( Deep Tempest ) there is heaps of places to fish, you really just need a good sounder and to drift. I have never caught a FT Snapper as yet, but from what I have heard you are probably looking at around the 130 mtrs to 200 mtr lines. I have caught good Pearlies from the 30's to the 100 mtr, but seem to get the bigger ones around that 80 to 100 mtr mark.
  3. Hi Mate - as for coordinates I'm sorry I really don't fish much in the Bay, I'm mainly always outwide from Flinders Reef to the shelf - Only spots that I have for the bay are already the really well known spots, I should go out one day and just scan for new spots in the bay just never seem to get around to it. I haven't been out for ages actually, I might try to get out next week when the wind and swell switch to South East and the time intervals pick up to north of 10 seconds again, probably some snapper spots from about 35 mtrs to 100 mtrs then depending on reports out wider to the shelf to try for Marlin/Wahoo or Tuna.
  4. Thanks Ed - the taxman might come calling
  5. Thanks Benno - appreciate the help mate, that is awesome. Regards Terry
  6. Thanks Hweebe - appreciate all the advice - Thanks again - Terry
  7. Thanks Aussie - I was wondering how boats at the shelf stayed out at night in such deep water. I'm going to head out to the shelf soon and try for some Blues and maybe on good calm days venture a little wider than the Canyons and Neverfail and look for some Yellowfin.
  8. Thanks Cobia - I gather you are referring to areas like Shallow Tempest etc... - thanks mate for the heads up.
  9. Thanks Ell - will try the coleman first or plug in lighter kettle - the Inverter is a great idea, but as I already have an oven in boat I'm not sure I'd get the value out of it - but I like the idea- thanks for sharing
  10. Hi Guys As some of you may have already read, I am looking to do some over nighters in my boat - was going to consider Yellow Patch is wx was ok, but I was chasing snapper - is Yellow Patch ok for Snapper ?
  11. Hi Benno573 Thanks mate - I have a Cruise Craft 720 Explorer HT with a 300 yamaha - pic attached. Would appreciate when you have time if you could mark on a map where you used to anchor around Cape Moreton at night and what wind conditions you looked for at each spot.
  12. Hi Ed - I have one these Coleman Hyper Flames - I should maybe take that out as well with a kettle and fry pan, just put it up on the bait board when in use.
  13. Thanks Rayke1938 - that could be a definite I think, I have a fridge that plugs into a lighter socket on the boat - so that will definitely work.
  14. Hi Ed - thanks mate, I have an electric winch on the front of my boat, 160 mtrs of rope, a lot of chain and a sarca anchor - hope this will do the job. - Would be interested to hear what swell wind conditions you think are ok for an overnight at Yellow Patch.
  15. Good idea mate, I'll call by the camping store on the way home and a look
  16. Thanks Ellicat - think I worked out the anchor alarm yesterday whilst playing around with my chartplotter/gps. I have a small travel oven built into the cabin of the boat which has been fantastic for nice hot pies, sausage rolls, cooked sausages warmed up in alfoil, curry etc.... I always take a thermous of hot tea when I go out, but would be nice to find a way to boil some water in the morning to make a fresh cuppa
  17. Hi Guys I am planning to do a few overnight trips in my boat soon, just wanted some knowledge from people on here on the following:- 1. Do many people stay out overnight at places like Deep Tempest if the wx and swell are good ? or do most coming back around Comby and stay near Bulwer, Tanagalooma ? 2. When camping overnight on your boat in the bay near Bulwer etc do you need to be extra cautious in a westerly wind, in case you finish up on the beach ? 3. Any other little comfort tips people might have would be appreciated. Terry
  18. Hi Hweebe Thanks mate, good to know that bigger boats make it easier. I have the same boat as Bill a Cruise Craft 720 Explorer HT with a 300 hp Yamaha, he is actually going to do the course in my boat and also spend a few hours once we cross the bar setting up my Garmin Sounder correctly. The main issue I face probably like a lot of people is finding the time to get out whilst trying to balance work, home life, children etc... I have never stayed out on my boat overnight - so going to try that soon as well. My boat pic attached.
  19. Will let you know ellicat, will most likely go out later this week coming when the Southerly brings the bigger swells, Bill is the only guy who looks forward to crap sea conditions
  20. Hi AUS-BNE. Thanks mate hope you get some tight lines ( and not on snags ) Terry
