  1. Hiya. No. My parents live on MacLeay. I actually have only been to Karragarra and Russell so far. Do you know what the land based fishing on Lamb is like? Cheers Kat
  2. Off to MacLeay Island for a few days. May island hop. Going to try and beat the leaderboard on flathead, whiting (yeah right), or Bream. I know we are all on the same team but.... I am addicted and know the weather sucks but at least I am not in a boat
  3. Hey @Drop Bear I was excited but soon realised I have already read this article! This is where I read about collecting the fresh bait and using soldier crabs. Cheers Kat
  4. Hey @ellicat no I dont plan to chase them down - LOL - I am not insane. I will give them a try if I end up pumping them up instead of yabbies as I did the other day
  5. Cool. Thanks. Anyway I will try using them again if I suck them up.
  6. Hi @Drop Bear Actually handling them was pretty creepy it reminded me of the little bugs in that Tom Selleck 80's movie - but squishy - eeew.
  7. Hi @Old Scaley, I don't really know what crabs they were. I was pumping for yabbies and they were coming up. They were small and black and white? Cheers Kat
  8. Hi @christophagus Thanks. BTW I wasn't being a smart#ss, I can't find my original post? Somehow I doubt I will be making the leaderboard anyway Cheers Kat
  9. Hey Hamish Great flathead BTW. Before today my PB whiting was 23cm. So you never know when. I was only waiting for the tide to go out further to get yabbies for some fishing tomorrow. Cheers Kat
  10. No I haven't. I just read about them - they are called the poor man's lobster apparently.
  11. Could have sworn I posted and asked to be put down for Southside. Mustn't have pressed submit properly - anyway I know I am not making the leaderboard but I am proud of my biggest whiting so far! Particularly as i was pumping for yabbies but having no luck and only getting the occasional little crab (not sure what they are called). Tide was not low enough for yabbies - so chucked them in my bucket remembering i read somewhere you could use them for live bait - shove two or three on your hook. As i was putting them on my hook waiting for the tide to go out further i saw some fish jumping in front of me - so i quickly cast out my line and within a minute was reeling him in
  12. Hey Drop Bear No it was only about 8cm long if that. I saw another one much bigger caught today. This was in a completely different location but still near me. So obviously they are around just surprised I haven't heard anyone mention them. BTW what is a stargazer? Cheers Kat
  13. Hey Greg Well told! Hilarious but damn glad I wasn't camping with you .....eeek. Mice and centipedes. Kat
  14. Yep it was definitely on a sandbar about two minutes after catching my baby flathead! I cant wait to try that spot again and see whether i can hook anything bigger than 8cm - maybe as big as Hamish's Cheers Kat
  15. Cheers Hamish. Yes I remember my Dad used to catch them off the mangrove flats in Auckland when I was a little one - I remember they taste great. I am surprised I caught one as I havent heard any of the local fishos mention them at all? I am wondering if I could get bigger ones here too. Hooked up five fish today but only two were legal size. 3 Bream, 1 Flathead and the baby flounder. Had a great day though.
  16. Thanks. I presume as I caught it local and I havent heard any other local anglers mention them that they don't grow very big where I am? Coombabah Creek area - GC. Anyone know? Sorry - should have mentioned it was about 8cm long...
  17. Sounds Great. Although I am not sure it was a promise! Hope I am available when the weather is good. Cheers Katrina
