Some good sessions there Brian 👍
It's been a fishing drought for @Kat and myself. Looking at a session tomorrow afternoon/ evening down the coast after dropping the kids back. Hopefully you left some whiting down there for us😜

I was once responsible for the grounds of an aged care facility on a 53 acre block.
When I started there it was run down and neglected. It was a daunting prospect (as I was the only groundsman), but I hooked in and 18 months on had the place looking pretty good.
Then came a scrub turkey migration. They made my life hell.  Many elderly folks take great pride in their gardens and don't appreciate a bird trashing and composting their efforts.
I did 8 years there before I went mad and left. Moved on and left the turkeys to it.  No more turkeys.
After seven or so years sober of the problem, two days ago I got a very unwelcome blast from the past. A large male scrub turkey decided that my place was suitable. I have had to lock up the chooks cause this thing is trying to kill them. It's even put the breeze up the cat (currently rallying the cat and trying to reprogram the kill function).
Has anyone ever had any success with dissuading these birds without extermination? I have respect for their determination but it's not outweighing the desire to rip it's head off.

Lure them into a roasting pan is my solution....has always worked for me.
Some people put chook mesh under the top layer of mulch....they try hard for a few days and then give up and move on is the word.
Do not put chillies out to disuade them, they are their chocolates.
Get a decent sized dog from a friend for a few days.

Glad you didn’t end up creating a new reef in the river. Bilge pumps can only do so much. Ray has the right idea with 2 in his tub. I got caught in a cloudburst once that was so heavy that the bilge couldn’t keep up and I was bailing like crazy to keep up. Visibility was zero. Lucky it didn’t last long.
BTW, keep looking for fish in the river. There are plenty there, just not always hungry. Mate and I pulled 7 decent snapper on Friday and could have caught the bag limit if the northerly didn’t get up earlier than forecast. Got a nice feed of crabs as well. You will work it out soon.

Good you got it sorted Matt, I've had a bung come loose but never fell right out. I put that down to not being tight to start with.
Yeah, how many of us test the bilge pump often enough to be confident it will work at sea. But all good more knowledge is no burden to carry.

I am a belt and braces person. When my boat is at rest the lowest point in the bilge is in the bow so I have 2 bilge pumps on separate circuits one in the bow and one in the stern. With no bung installed when you are under way the venturi effect will suck the water out from the bilge.
     Cheers Ray

Bit of a late report , was waiting to see if the photo insert issue  got resolved -but alas,   Hence no photos of my whiting for you.
Anyways , had a lazy trip last Tuesday , launched at Alberton opposite the ski park and cruised down the Logan River and out south down past the Power Lines down into the islands of Jumpinpin.
Started off with 7 nice whiting on worms that I’d dug the day before, then pulled out a new soft plastic prawn by Rapala -‘The Imposter’ from the Crush City stable in a colour called Purple Haze.
It pulled 6 Flatties and countless small bream in the next few hours - all tagged and released. I then anchored  back up and got 4 more whiting before running out the worms and heading home to fillet up a nice plate of whiting fillets.
I’m heading  up to Fraser Island with 3 mates this Thursday for 10 days camping on the Eastern Beach in search of a few late season tailor . Hopefully the school holiday crowd has left some nice flat camp sites and a few decent fish for us to play with . I’m sure we’ll all be happy crappies ,so long as we don’t all end up making the News as dingo fodder.
    Regards
    Neil

Kat reacted to FishingCrazy in first bass flick of the season
I managed to score a few days off work mid-week, and being the first week of open bass season in Northen NSW it was a no brainer of what I was going to do.😀
That night I loaded the ute, tied on fresh leaders, then couldn't sleep in anticipation of the first bass flick of the season.
The alarm screamed at me at 4am, jumped out of bed then suddenly realized my throat felt like dry sandpaper and my nose felt like someone had squeezed a full tube of silicon up each nostril..............MAN FLU........NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.😥🤬😥🤬.
It takes a fair bit to stop me going fishing, tried to walk it off round the yard then headed back to bed thinking, "WOW, I must be sick".
Headed to the doctors who said I had a cold (really?? lol) and need to rest a few days, he also noted that I am now over 50 and should have a prostate exam😮......and asked me " Would you like one?"
    ........................WOULD I like one?
    ......WOULD I like one?
What sort of a question is that?
Every time I go to a doctor, now I am over 50, they always ask me that. Why? Do they enjoy the nervous squeamish look on people's faces????
    Anyway,
Slept all day, dreaming of catching bass, woke on the couch at 3am the next morning and thought "stuff it, I'm going". What does a doctor know????
I mean he asked WOULD I like a prostate exam, lol.
Soooo glad the "need to fish" won the battle of "need to recover" as the fishing was well worth pushing myself to get up and moving.
Here is a vid of the morning and arvo surface session. The weather was extremely hot for the first week of spring, 32 degrees in the shade at 11am, don't know if that's why the bass were hitting the surface so well or if it was because a lot of the grass and trees along the bank had been burnt away meaning they weren't getting much food from the frogs and insects etc. that they would usually be getting?
I was using the Zman frogs.
How good is bass surface fishing.😍
