Sorry for being late to the post, Brian. I haven't had much time to catch up with the forum recently. Looks like a good few sessions. That feed of whiting must've been delicious. Good work on the little jewie in the river, too.

As an English and Australian crossbreed😄, I moved from the uk a few years ago. I recommend what everyone else said and just wait, from what I remember the fishing tackle and brands is very different from the kind of gear you get in Australia. Most of the stuff in the uk is for uk fishing and vice versa. To get a taste for the bread and butter species a 3 inch soft plastic and roughly 1/8 jigheads will work well👍.

I suppose what first needs to be determined is what will you be fishing for??
Your best shot is land here and immerse yourself by going out with a local and learn what you want to target and how to target them.....there are too many options here for being vague and you could not possibly cater for them all within two years.
If I was to select two lures for an overall shot at things locally I would opt for a 4" Powerbait Minnow in pearl watermelon and a 3.5" soft plastic prawn......both would be eaten by most fish if worked correctly.

Fishing used to creep into my procrastination program when I was at school too 😉... Always good to sneak in a break from study around exam time👍

    Hi all
Snuck out with @charlie.hans.fishing this arvo for a quick flick at the mouth of Oxley Creek. We got there at about 4, just as the tide had started running in. It was already pretty crowded so we didn't bother with lines for the first part, but after having a cast around with the net I eventually got a few mullets and bony bream.
As one group left we got the lines out and started fishing. We were hopeful of a bite, but unfortunately, apart from a couple of small nibbles on Charlies rod we both donutted for the whole arvo.
By 7PM with no action it was looking pretty bad, and with a bit of wind making it quite cold we decided to call it quits.
Hope everyone had a better Saturday, at least I got to go fishing. Can't wait until school holidays.
    Stats of Trip:
    Tide: 3:00PM, .5M, Low
Moon Phase: Three days before New Moon
Bait Caught and Used: Live mullet and bony bream. Also caught grunter, scat, and ponyfish in the net.
    Fish Caught: -
    Air Pressure: 1013
    Humidity: 65%
Overall Success Rate: 25% - fun study break
    Thanks for reading,
    Cheers Hamish.

charlie.hans.fishing reacted to szlartibartfast in braid to mono knots in the thick of things
Hi all. I often fish the sand flats wading in the water flicking for flathead. I got busted off recently and had a bastard of a time retying a braid/mono knot in the wind. As much as the FG knot is lovely, some of these more complex ones seem impractical while juggling a backpack in water up to your nutsack (with the nearest sand a 40m slog away and the fish biting). How you do/would solve this dilemma?

You could try learning a slightly simpler knot, like an Albright or Double Uni Knot, I sometimes have this issue too when its rough and normally just try the knot a bit slower.

charlie.hans.fishing reacted to Bretto77 in terrified chooks
I was once responsible for the grounds of an aged care facility on a 53 acre block.
When I started there it was run down and neglected. It was a daunting prospect (as I was the only groundsman), but I hooked in and 18 months on had the place looking pretty good.
Then came a scrub turkey migration. They made my life hell.  Many elderly folks take great pride in their gardens and don't appreciate a bird trashing and composting their efforts.
I did 8 years there before I went mad and left. Moved on and left the turkeys to it.  No more turkeys.
After seven or so years sober of the problem, two days ago I got a very unwelcome blast from the past. A large male scrub turkey decided that my place was suitable. I have had to lock up the chooks cause this thing is trying to kill them. It's even put the breeze up the cat (currently rallying the cat and trying to reprogram the kill function).
Has anyone ever had any success with dissuading these birds without extermination? I have respect for their determination but it's not outweighing the desire to rip it's head off.

What can go wrong. Barometer 1020+, full moon ,slight wind.
Hai forgot to tell decky no bananas. Guess what he had in his lunch box.
. Only one 25cm bass by 10 am. We even at one stage seeing if we could catch some tilapia in shallow. Hai was happy because he caught his first one and was impressed how hard it went. Tried all the usual spots and ended up just slowly checking the main basin until we found a school in 20 feet of water near fad 0.
Spotted a couple of scabs who must have walked in from Whiteside road fishing the bank in H6.
Final tally was 29 bass,2 tandans, one tilapia and one forky
