Mick GC got a reaction from AUS-BNE-FISHO in G'day from the gold coast
Thanks Hamish,
Got him on 40lb mono, was on a Shimano beastmaster TLD25 combo and a pre-made wire trace and 6.0 circle hook (80lb I think)
Was an easy fight but I think I was pretty over geared for him

Went out the other day in the Logan river, chasing a shark
Got a little Bull shark, was good fun

So I went around to the north wall of the seaway. Didn't catch anything apart from some pests (angelfish I think?)
Definitely a lot more active though I was at least losing bait 🤣
The rain eventually got heavier and I went home

Eel is good. So too is stingray, if you didn't know.
@christophagus has done up a thread on targeting them if you're interested -

Nice work. It's always a bit of fun to get a little bully.
How heavy did you fish to land him?
Cheers Hamish

They are good fun if you're targeting them. Good when a plan comes together.
What bait did it take ?

There's a livie spot just outside the Seaway to the south.
Get yourself some yakka and slimies and drag them through the northern entrance of the seaway.
Mid tide is hard going but as it weakens before and after the high and lows is good.

As long as you don't anchor on the pipeline I the seaway that is also a cracker spot to fish with livies. I only use dead bait now when I have no other choice 😸

So yeah I would try locate some live bait from where you launch from shore via Castnet. Try some berley even if it is just chicken pellets/bread/tuna oil etc - disperse a little at a time for 10 min or so then cast away! Depending on where you should get some great bait sized winter whiting, garfish, herring etc.

Hey Mick
I have fished the Seaway a few times, mainly early mornings in Winter.
We would start out by netting live herring in the canals near the Runaway Bay Boat Ramp. It is imperative to fish with good livies, opposed to dead bait. As well as herring, bony bream, biddies, and haddyheads were also used.
We would then motor to the Seaway and fish on the left hand side (when leaving the seaway). Ideally, you will remain around 15m from the rocks with the motor still on, or electric motor. Try and stay in the same spot as much as possible.
Jew, trevally, big bream, cod, reef fish, and the occasional jacks were possible here, though I only ever caught trevally, Jew, and bream.
Fish with a sinker big enough to hold on the bottom, a light gauge circle hook, and about a metre of 20 pound trace. Good luck!
Cheers Hamish

O was listening to Doug Bert the other day. He was saying there's Jacks to be caught at the North wall in close. Might be a chance today as just before a thunderstorm is supposed to be prime time for them....just not a good time to be in a boat.

G'day, Mick here
A bit of fishing experience but by no means an expert
Just bought myself a 5m seafarer Venus half cabin
I live right near the Broadwater and have a couple of kids. My almost 7 year old son loves to come out for a fish too.
