Huxstang got a reaction from AUS-BNE-FISHO in Have SEQ species changed or do we just fish differently?
Didnt want to take over someone else thread, but the discussion re grunter is and example of discussions I have had with friends.
Winding the clock back to the mid 90’s and we used to hear about the odd threadfin being caught in the northern reaches of the passage but usually if you wanted to catch them you were going to Maryborough.  Now without saying they are now common place there are certainly good schools of them around the estuaries.
Grunter - now there is a fish I thought was really only ever up north.  Its interesting to see the sizes of these being caught - heck a 50cm specimen up north is a good fish and here we are with 60cm fish.
Nannies, coral trout and red emperor…..yes normally just small but are they more prevalent?
So is it just that the internet has opened up more discussion about what is caught and they were always around or is the warming trend of the east coast current bring warmer climate fish further down south.
Or even the reduction in commercial fishing and fairly strict size and bag limits for rec fishers increasing the numbers to the point that they are observable.
As a second point could it that nannies and reds in these southern waters are just a product of the current and as they grow migrate north for warmer waters?
    Anyway its an interesting thing.

Not sure how well it went over when I came in from taking the bin out and made the comment that it was a shame to be leaving when the weather looks like it might finally start to come good 😛

We are heading to Canada for weeks on Wednesday….hopefully it will have stopped blowing by the time we get home.  I will be super keen to wet some line by the time I get home.

Latest generation Stradic (FM) is so close to the latest generation Shimano Sustain in smoothness it’s not funny.  Hard pressed to justify the increase in cost, except the Sustain is sexy black and maybe a bit lighter thanks to MGL rotor 😛
Handle goes in just as easy as any of my other Shimano’s - just need to wind it against the thread to settle it into the lead and then wind it in.

Huxstang got a reaction from Bretto77 in Reef anchor - how much chain?
Consider a Mooloolaba Pick anchor https://www.whitworths.com.au/mooloolaba-pick-anchor
Thats what all the boats have on the swains that I have been on.
Shackle to the top then lay chain down the shaft and heavy zip ties to what you would normally attach to.  If its stuck you just pull back over the top and it snaps the zip ties and you then pull the anchor up from the head.
Mate bought a very expensive version of one (cannot remember the name) but it uses a sheer bolt to hold the fins in place and all you do it drive over the top and it sheers the pin and the fins collapse.  A guy up in Mackay makes them.  Very neat.

Mate just bought a zing extreme v3….very impressive rods for the coin.   I drooled on the new Oceans legacy inshore rods at tackle warehouse on thursday.    Also very nice and within $50 of price of the Samaki- both much nicer in feel to the Nomad Seacore range.
I am with everyone else…Get a lighter 6-12lb rod with a 2500/3000 size reel and then a heavier for jew etc.  I think 10-20lb or 10-17lb is more than enough for anything we get in the Brisbane river in the Jew/Thready classes.

Chris Britton is getting some Snyder blanks still I believe….he is on the web and down at Redland Bay.  Nice bloke too, did a Swains trip with him.
But if you want something more current its hard to go past the Wilson Venom’s for a composite blank.

I’m intrigued…..what is the blank and why so different?
I have an Edge 704 spin for soft plastics which is pretty nice but also use a much softer tipped Shimano Tcurve Premium 732 which I also don’t mind.

Looks amazing.  A great adventure.  How do they get your boat on and off the ferry or do they just tow it under a bridle?
Be an awesome 4 or 5 days I bet - but how the heck do you camp with eskies and ice these days 🙃 - I am so stuck on 12v and a fridge its not funny.
