  1. Nice day out. Those chatter baits can really get them excited some days. I'm going to have to give dam fishing a crack, I have only ever fished for creek and river bass.
  2. There's something about camping next to a river like this as the suns going down, the frogs and bird noises are so loud, you feel totally relaxed and at peace. Any worries in life are gone and all you can think of is how good the arvo has been and are as excited as a kid on xmas eve for what the fishing will bring in the morning.
  3. Thanks for the tips mate, very much appreciated, I will give the wait a second or two advise a go and see if that improves the hook up rate. It's hard not to strike as they hit though, a second or two will feel like half an hour. It's one of those things that some days nearly every strike connect and some days you miss most of them.
  4. Nice day out on the water by the looks of it. Fresh snapper fillets.....nothing beats it., except maybe homemade chock chip cookies.
  5. Headed out west into the mountains for an afternoon fish, ended up staying and camping the night, the country mountain scenery, bird life and fishing was just too beautiful to leave. I did a short hike through the bush to get to a pool I fished last season, only managed a couple of small bass at this spot so hiked back out to the car and moved down stream. As the sun went behind the mountains, I started fishing a surface lure, Zman frog, which saw a few hits but only one fished hooked. I think the hook up rate on this lure may not be as high as others with treble hooks, but the action of them seems to really fire them up, less damage to the fish too on the single hook. The next day fished with a chatter bait which found me a few more fish. I think the biggest bass caught over the afternoon and morning fish was just over the 40cm mark, so no trophy fish caught, but the country air, beautiful scenery and clean clear mountain waters made me want to quit my job, stay there, live off the land next to the river carefree.................but then reality kicked in and I drove home to get ready for work.
  6. Wow, 150......massive numbers, I don't know the dam well and haven't done any dam fishing......yet...but guessing like most they are stocked, fish can't breed by getting to the salt/brackish waters? I'm only in my second season of bass fishing, still learning about them, so sorry if it's a stupid question.
  7. Barra are at the top of my must do list. Nice photos, I think most of us enjoy the scenery and nature we encounter while fishing just as much as hooking a few.
  8. Nice, wish I lived a bit closer, would have loved to be your decky for the day and catch bass like that.
  9. Yeah the Flatty seemed like it was lost. Its well and truly fresh and not tidal? And the amount of fresh rain that's poured through there in the last week has been massive. These days though maybe it was a flatty that identifies as a bass
  10. Hi all, With all the rain, yet again, it's been hard to get out for a bass session because of the fast-flowing creeks and rivers. I headed to a small system that's still fishable when everywhere else is raging too fast, was only the second time I had fished this creek. The first time I came here was surprisingly good with many bass happy to hit the surface lures, but this time.........not so good. It started off really well with a 42cm bass caught at the bottom of some small rapids which took a Zman frog. 42cms may not be a trophy fish for a lot of rivers or creek, but for this small system I'd guess it will be hard to beat here. Really fat and healthy, I was thinking this is going to be a cracker of a session...........but that's where is pretty much ended. Next to grab the surface frog was a flathead, which was not expected in the fresh. The only other fish caught was a smaller bass on the Kozami 60mm walk the dog style surface lure. So, a very slow afternoon, which was a bit disappointing after this spot fished so well last time, but still enjoyable being out on the water in very pleasant scenery with the bird calls soothing the soul................and it didn't rain Thanks for reading, and let's hope this sun keeps on shining now for a while.
  11. Gotta love it when the bycatch is better than the target species. Tasty mulloway burgers for dinner.
  12. Very nice, trout fishing is very high on my to do list, have always been a salt fisho but last year started getting into the fresh more and more chasing bass. But there are trout not too far a drive from here so keen to have a crack.
  13. Maybe I haven't, and all my clothes are shrinking??? lol, yes, I like that reasoning better than I eat too many pies I'm off to the bakery.
  14. Not sure how to stretch the hurt area from the bike seat lol, might start going for a ride each day for a bit of fitness............is what Im thinking, but the reality is the bike will sit in the shed for another 8 years.
  15. With more flooding rains forecasted for NSW I thought I'd better get out for a bass session while I still could. I decided to give Pine creek a go but not many tracks to get up into the fresh, so jumped on the mountain bike for the first time in about 8 years, can hardly walk this morning. Legs are soooooo sore and the small hard bike seat left me tender also. lol Beautiful sub-tropical rain forest in parts and bird life made for an enjoyable morning, but the 14 leeches in my boots didn't. Managed to find a few fish, not much size in them but any day fishing's a good day. I only threw surface lures around, I have become addicted with them and find it hard to fish for bass sub-surface now. Anyway, here is a short vid of the fun. Thanks.
  16. Thanks for all the welcomes, Lets hope we dont get another spring and summer of rain and floods.
  17. Hi Guys, first time posting in here. I use to post on Kayak Fishing Down Under but that closed down a long time ago. Only just found this forum, looking forward to getting to know you all and share info, learn a bit from you all and share some trip reports. Anyways, first trip report from a few days ago. With all the rivers around here, Coffs Coast area, flowing hard after minor flood levels meaning the Clarence, Nymboida, Bellinger etc were moving too fast for a relaxing kayak session. So I decided to give a smaller creek in my local area a crack. I had been told by a couple of people over the years that there are bass in there, but have driven past it a thousand times and never had a fish. Have fished the creek in the salt many times but this was the first time upstream in the fresh........and was pleasantly surprised. Only took a handful of surface lures with me, a couple of MMD splash prawns and some Zman frogs, and after an hour at first light of no touches I was thinking there are either no bass in here or I stuffed up and should have brought some divers with me as maybe their not interested in surface today?? Then for some reason, that only the bass could answer lol, they started taking interest in the surface lures. Many smaller fish caught, with a few larger fish caught which all seemed to be the exact same size at 38cms? Was starting to think it was the same fish following me all morning. lol. Anyway, here is a vid of some of the action. Surface fishing is soooooo addictive, might not catch as many, compared to subsurface, with lots of short strikes but the fun factor is worth it. Thanks
