Got a good feed of one of the best fish on the plate, so worth the trip.
We too were tricked by the forecasters. I headed out to Harry's with son Mitch. He got seasick after getting smoked twice by very good fish. Launched about 4.30, returned to ramp at 7.15 wet, shaken, and cold. Met @Another Wazza out there too. He battled on in the conditions.
How far out did you go to get a Pearly ?

Pie shop shut - what a tragedy -a total  unjust ending to the day!

Yes it’s certainly a fair trip up there from the Southside of Brisbane, especially on a public holiday .
Presume you got rewarded with quality fish .
We got back from our  stint dog sitting at Bribie yesterday and I  went for a whiting fish this morning. There was a heap of boats out down the Pin. Surprisingly I managed to find a quiet spot out of the chaos  and got a nice feed of pretty good fish  .

We have been trying to get up to Baroon Pocket dam for a while and been thwarted either due to availability or the dam closed due to rainfall. We finally made it this morning to find the visibility near zero due to a heavy fog that did not lift until around 8am. We used the gps to find one of out usual spots and found the bass hungry . We pulled around 40 before they went quiet so we went upstream and could not find any bass so we went downstream and found another school where we ran out of shrimp . Final tally was 62 bass and one tandan. Largest bass went 42cm and the tandan 58cm. Only disappointment was that Bucks pies were closed due to anzac day. 2 fish kept for the table others all tagged and released.

I am leaning towards too many flushes or floods in the 13 years since 2011 has altered the habitat and or bait locations and cycles.
We get dusky flathead all along the east coast and deep into the Gulf....so I am not sure it is a temperature change that has them shut down. I used to catch lots in Mackay and the Capricorn Coast when I was there.
2011 saw every worm bed in the Pine River scoured to rock and repeated in 2013....the worm beds returned after 5 or 6 years and things started to normalise...since 2019 we have had reasonable to large flushes recurring randomly in relatively quick succession....some in season, others not.
I think this weather pattern needs a break....we actually need a drought to stabilise the rivers and creeks. Getting heavy flushes 4 times a year is not good year after year.

I find there’s lots of flathead in the Brisbane River in winter months but I think this coincides with breeding.

One thing of note Raef and I have noticed lately....flathead have become a pretty scarce for us capture in the last 18 months....areas we normally can't avoid them are now pretty much flathead free zones.
One section in the pine we fished today has always been a flathead area as far back as I can remember (50 odd years of fishing this stretch) and yet today and the last 4 visits there have not produced a single flathead.....the norm was 6 to 10 flathead there.
I have noticed the same thing in the Bris River, Cabo River and Ningi Creek....hot spots gone dead.
Anyone else noticed this since the 2011 and 2013 floods?

I came into the Shorncliffe foreshore to try for a squid or two on the way back from Reddy....PEOPLE!!! geez....there was at least 500ppl on the jetty, probably closer to 800 than 500. Absolutely crazy at about 9.30am.

Redcliffe was loaded with boats....like a regatta....hundreds of boats everywhere.....pine was the heaviest i have ever seen it too.
2 small snaps, 1 decent flounder, more than 6 tailor up to 60cm.....went into the pine for a look...found a pile of fish near the slabs with two big jew under them.....i pinned 1 jew on 8lb line.....that finished as soon as it found out it was hooked. Raef got done by something decent on the rock shelf.....boated several brassy trevally and small jew.....got about 2 litres of prawns for lunch.
    All fish released....

    Hi All.
Taking it easy. Rocks & Beach fishing can come later.
Luderick & Bream were the go.
Arrived after sunrise, bit on the cool side. Few people about. Forgot it was still school holidays.
Very quiet. Caught 3 blackfish in over an hour. Size 32 to 34 cm. I think it may be too early for blackfish. But the burley seemed to work.
Moved to south side of the channel near the bridge for some bream.
Caught 2 nice bream around 34cm. Puppy was happy.
Moved on the crowds were starting to arrive.
Had two rods with me. Ugly Stik Carbon with a Kastking Magenta 3000reel. great set up. Wilson Magenta 8' rod for those who remember with a Daiwa Legalis 3000 reel.
Bait was green weed & Aussie cooked prawns.
    Nice to be back fishing.
    Cheers.

I always found that live bait tends to sift out some smaller stuff. All the others that have made points have made valid points. The only other things that I could add is go fishing whenever you can and/or feel like it. Keep a record of things. @AUS-BNE-FISHO has been diligent with this with better tools than I had when I was his age.

Beaut conditions at NPD today but fish scarce only boating 4 yellas, one spanglie, 8 bass plus normal assortment of forkies.  Apart from the forkies which were everywhere the only 2 locations where we caught fish were fad 2 and the floats..

Went out with @Another Wazza today and he was close to negative 10 with the grinners. Very quiet day that started with a 37 snap to Wazza on a plastic. After that the most exciting thing was loading up the Sabiki jig with some lollipop yakkas and a few pike.
