  1. I have blue eyes and writing on measure is blue. Caught on live shrimp NPD 5/1/22
  2. Rick set a 12 year record at NPD first time he did not catch a reportable fish. He avoided the dreaded donut with a 6 inch forky which he flatly refused to pose for a photo. Fishing was tough with only 5 bass, one yella, one tandan and 5 forkys boated all caught on live shrimp. Andrew and Adam were happy to take some fish home for a feed and Rick was in Joys good books as she did not have to clean any fish.
  3. Not many recorded in catch records over last 4 days
  4. I was tempted to catch a couple of gar to avoid the donut but couldnt be bothered. Much better day at the hinze today.
  5. Nearly did not go today. I got a phone call from Rick at 3am wanting to defer trip till Thursday as it was very windy and wet. I could not go on Thursday and had a look at the radar and noted that the rain was clearing from down south and made the call to go. We left at 4.30 and it was still blowing and pouring rain but by the time we got to Nerang the rain had stopped but the trees still had plenty of movement. When we met with Hai at the dam I got a phone call from Dave who said he had slept in and had to give it a miss. As soon as we left the sheltered water at the ramp bay we headed off to the painted trees where we thought it would be nice and sheltered. It was a bit rough punching into the white caps and wind but nice and protected once we arrived and tied up to one of the trees. The bass were hungry but so were the barred grunter and we ran out of the live shrimp that Rick had kept from his trip last wednesday. We had left all out prebaited bait containers in the car aswe thought that we had plenty of shrimp but had not planned on getting onto a hot bite. Fortunately I had a plastic bottle with some dog pellets as an emergency bait supply stowed in the bow but it slowed down the processing the pots having to refill each container separately. We decided to move around to see if we could locate a better size of fish as so far the largest bass only went 36cm.We found a school holding at 20 feet in 36 feet of water and got stuck into the bass again. It was quite exposed to the wind there and the spotlock was working vey hard and it was hard to pick up a bite due to the rapid movement of the boat so we called it a 11.30 with a total of 84 bass, 1 tandan and numerous barred grunter that the eagle enjoyed. Rick scored the best bass at 47cm. When we got back to the ramp we sprung a couple in yaks who were loading up their car with one of our shrimp traps that they had knocked off needless to say we repossessed it.
  6. Woke up early and weather looked ok so I decided to go for a solo run to NPD. Been a couple of weeks since I was last there and wanted to see how my pots fared after fisheries visit. They seemed ok with plenty of shrimp in the few I pulled. The weather stayed fine until I hit koala straight on the way back to the ramp when it poured. I was unable to better Dinos 15 kg forky in fact I did not catch one or anything else in 4 hours fishing. Hope I do better today as I am going to hinze.
  7. Did you hear about the dikhead who gave up a days fishing put on shoes and socks and a bag or fruit complete with a tie and travelled 20k to find out he was a week too early?

  9. 43 bass ,7,tandans and one eel plus numerous barred grunter stealing bait. early finish as we ran out of bait.
  10. Tieing your pots to trees or jettys is a much better proposition. Even if the tie off spot is shallow if your ropes are long enough so that the pot is not high and dry at low water you should be ok. Another advantage is that without floats the pots are not so visible to share farmers. You do have to have a tag with your name (When tied to a fixed object, a tag must also be attached to part of the rope that is above the high water mark. The tag must be marked clearly with the user's surname.) but nothing is said about the size of the tag so the more inconspicuous the tag and rope the better so black rope that sinks is much better than the normal paramatta rope that floats and stands out like the proverbial.
  11. fIsh only looks small because he is a big bloke and did not poke it in the camera.

  13. We went to the western arm this morning launching at a leisurely 6am and headed to usual spot at the tip of ians island and only caught 3 bass in about 20 minutes and the barred grunter were stealing our scarce supply of live shrimp. We then headed to one of the painted trees at the upstream entrance of bass bay where we quickly ran out of bait and boated around 20 bass. Our shrimp traps were handy to this location so we quickly checked the traps and returned to the painted tree and got back into the bass, Final tally when we knocked off at 11 am was 80 bass and 7 tandans. Cheers Ray
  14. Went to NPD this morning with Rick and Joy. The main purpose of the trip was to assist in the release of bass fingerlings from Hanwood Hatchery plus a pre and post fish as the fingerlings were not due till 9.30. Still plenty of discoloured water and the shrimp pots that were in over 10 feet of water were ok but the ones in only 6 feet were full of dead shrimp. A lot of small redclew in the pots so hopefully we will have a good redclaw season this year. We could not find a bass all day but caught 10 forkies and had a black snake try to pay us a visit before we went back to pick up a load of fingerlings. With 15 boats available the bass were quickly distributed around the weed edges. For the last 7 years the PRFMA have been practicing a scattered release in that members have aeriated tanks in their boats and we distribute the fingerlings along several kilometres of shoreline instead of the previous method of just spreading them in bulk within several hundred metres of the ramp. There is 2 trains of thought about the 2 different methods the old school state that the fish are already stressed from the journey from the hatchery and should be released immediately. The PRFMA thinking is that the old method of dumping the fingerlings in the one area just provides a feeding site for all the local predators and contributes to a slower growth rate of the new fingerlings due to overcrowding and depletion of available food. The catch rated over the last 7 years have significantly improved which indicate a better survival rate of the fingerlings .We had originally ordered 80000 fingerlings but the hatchery had a bumper hatch rate and were unable to grow sufficient algae to feed the fingerlings to our normal release size so the decision was made to accept a smaller size and to provide 100000 plus fingerlings. After we had released our bath of fingerlings into the weed edges we went fishing again and only caught 2 more forkies so we had an early knock off.. Cheers Ray
  15. They apparently stock every year. In NPD takes 2 years to reach legal size. So would assume the same in Hnze as there is an abundance of barred grunter for them to feast on.
  16. Best bass was only 42cm The ratio was 7 unders to every 30 cm +. Most of the unders were between 18 and 25cm which means that the stocking group has been successful and there is a steady group o fi coming for future years. All fish tagged and released except for the 18cm one.
  17. Had to work hard to boat 36 bass this morning.
  18. Went to Hinze western arm with Craig, Rodger and Hai this morning. Fishing was slow with only 32 bass with largest around 38cm. Only one fish on Ians Island so we headed upstream we were unable to fish the trees in the middle as they are all submerged with the dam at 99%. We found scattered fish at the upstream side to bass bay and left early as we did not take wet weather gear as the wind got up and we could see showers approaching. The eagle gorged itself on barred grunter.
  19. looks like our pots will be under again cheers for info.
  20. was very hard going yesterday on bait. On thursday apparently the forkies were abundant but disappeared overnight. Fair bit of weed floating around but cleared up through the day. Would suggest flicking your lures over the weed beds on the edges as bass probably attracted to the newly submerged banks.
