I found no extra problems with coloured Gliss over white...same problems long term though. With the newer 8, 9 12 and 16 braid lines out there these days that are remarkably thin and either super slick or natural tight weave you will better the casting distance of Gliss. Do not be afraid to search out 9 or 12 ply braids on Aliesxpress, I am currently using some that is at least as good as Tasline for thin diameter, super supple and super slick....$36ish for 1000m delivered. Telescopic folding nets are ok but difficult to use solo when fighting a fish. I suggest something like a squid gaff you can slip under it's chin....these can be one handedly operated easily. https://www.hookem.com.au/product-page/telescopic-squid-gaff it is usually safer with big flathead to lead them to a landing point....don't muscle it, guide it, they will comply nearly always. Every flathead over 60cm is female so take good care of them. Can you leave a cheap landing net at your neighbors wall?

I have 4 Okuma Epix reels still going well after almost 20 years.....I have upgraded to carbon fibre drags as i do with all my reels. Keep an eye out for salt or corrosion around the bail....the only issue I have had so far.

I like the stabicraft for offshore work....down side of them apart from looks is the cockpit is a bit narrow but easily fishable. I'm not sure you will find a new platey in your 60k, but you should find a few good second hand boats that would suit. Look in the auction sites like Lloyds....some good buys in there at times....not usually thought of by the average Joe.

If you can get your net down in 15m of water and manage the current there are big prawn schools out from luggage point around the leads marker level with the front wall of the port yesterday. Schools were 2 to 3m deep on the sounder.

For sure he will be back, he lives for fishing but doesn't do it enough. He seems to live on frustration with barra and jacks his main obsession in SEQ....

water quality is surprisingly good like a green tea....see through and slightly brown.....lots of crap floating on the surface though...I would not be night time travelling currently.

Went back down the port this afternoon looking for more jew like last week. Found scattered jew near where I found them last week on the run out....water was running too hard to effectively fish....went up the river for two small squire...1 about 40 the other about 55cm....the 55 came home. Went back to the jew at the change of the tide and they were not schooling or feeding. Ended up anchor locking over a couple of pairs of fish a few times for no result....that's fishing for you. I gave my deckie the snapper to take home....poor bugger didnt get a single sniff today. Nothing worthy of a photo today.

Mostly you will be chasing mulloway, gummy sharks or snapper in the area....unsure if the Elephants come into that area though. Typically down that way with the tiny tides compared to the northern half of Aus, beach fishing is a long wait affair. You also tend to lose a lot of good baits to sea lice or sand crabs as well. Any idea where in SA you are going to be based at?

My boat lives behind a locked gate and under security cameras so I have bolted the minn kota without any quick release mounts, plus it is hard wired to the battery through a 60 amp trip switch. My charging iv with a Victron 12/17 amp charger though a anderson plug.....you do have to keep an eye on the anderson plugs for corrosion.....i clean mine every 6 weeks or so before it crusts up with corrosion. If you do not need to remove your electrics I suggest hard wiring everything and do not disconnect....esp sounders...those tiny pins are so prone to damage and quickly die with corrosion. The less connections that can be exposed to atmosphere the better. A good idea to dip your connectors on liquid insulation after making the termination....just be sure to clean it off at electrical contact points.

Buy a 2nd hand Minn Kota Terrova i pilot and get a full service on it from Minn Repairs....would have to be cheaper than buying new.

I have never fished it but I think north straddy would be worth a shot land based....there is some reasonable water there.

A mate has been recording times he is catching fish in Mondy and entering it into a database with lots of other fishing....Seems there is a real coincidence in Mondy with tide changes at Gladstone...high or low does not matter, but it is around 70% lining up within an hour each side of a tide change. Something to take note of in the future I guess.

I was surprised not to lose a jew today to sharks.....maybe i should shut up now....

Launched at Pinky ramp at 5.30am run out tide...quite filthy. Run to the front of the port, water was quite good but no fish. Run to Mud, water good but only micro squire. Run to nearest tripod, dropped a mac on the first cast then threw back several tailor to about 45cm. Came back to the port, water decent, collected the jew in the links above. Went to the patch opposite Clara Rocks, water decent, current suicidal. Came home satisfied once more.

Honestly I thought it was a month by month thing....then again I assume a lot and make an ass of myself.
