  1. And yet the rangers turned up in the video just before it cut out....rangers put the drone up and found the croc looks almost identical to a dugong..... So the original video guy posted a croc declared video that finished 5 minutes before the rangers filmed the dugong......120 plus other people believed they saw a croc too....amazing what you see when you want to believe it is something extraordinary. 2. Legal jew are quite a lot easier to catch in the Pine and Cabo rivers....far easier to find and hook. Far less educated to vibes and plastics.
  3. Last week some jumbo tailor were smashing mullet schools just down from Cement Australia wharf. I spent about an hour there catch and release of 6 to 8 jumbo tailor and 2 small macks...smallest about 45cm largest 60 to 65cm....a lot larger than normal choppers.
  4. 1 up at all the wharves and terminals.
  5. I was in the black Assault Pro 449....
  6. I suspect the croc has already vanished and the media won't follow up. Someone got their 15 mins though.
  7. I saw all of you down the port today and yes it was a pretty dismal experience on the thready count. I gave another boaty a venting needle for the only thready i know of that was caught this morning. I ran live herring, vibes and plastics for 1 catty. I searched the port area twice and right up to rivergate without finding any schools, the odd singular fish with lockjaw. I pulled the pin at about 11am or so. I will give the port a miss until the prawns run properly.
  8. Facts are the average for fatal crock attacks in Australia is 1.9 deaths per year Australia wide. Pretty good effort for a croc to swim 200+km undetected these days....esp in SEQ. Fear mongering does nothing to solve any problem, it creates more problems.
  9. Rather than polishing you could simply acid wash it to clean the alloy up. CT12 Aluminium cleaner is what I have used in the past....looks like it might be discontinued now though. It was almost the same as Chemtech Blitz Aluminium Cleaner you can get from Autobarn stores currently. Chemtech Blitz Aluminium Cleaner 1L - CBZ-1L | Chemtech | Shop our Full Ranges by Brand | Autobarn | Autobarn Category | Autobarn Follow the directions and to not increase the strength. Leaves the aluminium nice and clean without endless polishing.
  10. Search facebook market place for a curado baitcaster....i think it is the best option at that price range.
  11. I prefer just to dust with rice flour and shallow fry with butter. You get the fish flavour without too much extra apart from butter.
  12. I use my jetboil coffee plunger and fresh grounds. 1 litre of boiling coffee in less than 2 minutes. Keeps the crew happy and on edge.
  13. I did notice some decent sized banana prawns on the surface in 10m of water at the bulk commodities wharf at Pinkenba around the 7th january....tailor were smashing them. None showing on the sounder though. Really struggling to find consistant good live bait areas in the Bris River down towards the wharves lately. Where do they get prawns around colmslie?? Ive checked that area 10 times in the past month without finding one. Supposed to be nearly year round there.
  14. I looked in the Pine last monday, nothing schooling at low tide. The river has changed structure woith the 2022 floods....what was 10m is now 8m or less in lots of places.
  15. Simply to not let life get in the way of fishing....
  16. To be honest, mulloway are fairly easily subdued. I run a 4000 stradic or a 4500 baitrunner for jew without problems. 4-8kg rod will easily handle them. Have caught metre plus jew several times on 3-6kg rods with 2500 reels running 16lb braid without needing more stick or cranking power. Nailed a few threadies around the metre mark on stradic 1000 on a 2-5kg rod and 12lb braid without problems, just a little more patience. Fighting fish hard often results in lost fish as well....jacks are a classic example....caught them in the high 50's and low 60's many times on 6 or 8 lb braid on 2-4kg rods.....the harder you fight them the dirtier they are and the more you lose.
  17. Surprising he has gone this way....I went with him a few times offshore more than a decade ago and all trips were excellent.
  18. Hi Andrew, any details on the LB15-24 blank you scored? Looks like it might be a glass / graphite composite prototype blank. I have a Snyderglas GF270 composite prototype rod I love to use....tough as nails for over 35 years now.
  19. I have about 10 stradics, each new model is better than the previous. That being said I still fish hard and regularly with the old white models that just do not die. FWIW one setup is a white stradic 1000 on a broken 2-4kg rod that boated a 1m threadfin salmon last year using a small soft vibe. 16lb braid loaded onto the reel and the drag cranked up pretty heavy. Fish them hard as you like, they can take it. I can't say I would treat the Vanfords with such a harsh life.
  20. I suppose the first question is what sort of crabs are you wanting? muddies or sandies? As above for muddies predominantly is correct. Location for sand crabs is usually 4 to 7m deep for the better numbers of crabs....often towards the middle of a river or offshore a bit. To avoid the theives sit nearby your pots if crabbing in popular areas.
  21. How far are you intending on travelling in the kayaks? Once you hit the skids area the tidal directions change to exactly opposite the southern section. Paddling the shoreline along Bribie will for the most part keep you out of the stronger currents. I suggest do a day in the southern end and a second day launching from Roys Landing area a little more than half way up the island. Currents around Roys Landing are easier to navigate and lots of small islands to paddle around.
  22. Low tide out from the mangroves......where else would a jack be??

    70cm Bass

No brag mat but I did scratch a mark on my rod from the butt to mark its length and measured the rod when I got home. Fish was 61cm and released. Jack.
