  1. Cauliflower soft coral, comes in a range of colours and not uncommon in Moreton Bay region. I have caught them on lines and anchors many times in SEQ. https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fishing/species-protection/what-current/endangered-species2/cauliflower-soft-coral
  2. Considering this is CGI video and the latest satellite imagery shows the lake as a new muddy feature in a high density housing estate, I would think it has not been stocked. It does not connect to any reasonable waterway permanently.
  3. Always worth a shot if you have nothing better on offer. Flatties, jew and threadies would be the main attendees.
  4. Ed, get your next lot of sump oil and your catch can oil tested separately....that will tell you how much diesel is being pushed past the rings....the results might surprise you.
  5. Thanks Mate, Going to try deception bay this week some reports coming in the last three days
  6. Good session there. Threadies can and regularly to abrade leaders through leaving a well sanded bit of leader. Very large conger eels can too but unlikely to get through 40lb leader though. Jew have different teeth that will nick lines without the sand paper effect. Big shovels do abrade line like sand paper but seldom enough to part 40lb. Interesting you are still on the prawns this late in the year.
  7. Do the vhf course, it will answer all of your questions.
  8. Even the best condition engine ever made has substantial blow by, it is essential that no moving parts touch metal to metal, there is always a film between the metals even the piston rings to the cylinder walls. The blow by atomises the oil that is released from the crank case into the EGR and similar systems of today.....a very flawed way of reducing emissions in the end of the argument. Diesels deliver more blow by than petrol engines because of both the higher compression ratio and the pressure supplied from the turbo chargers. At 200ml or so for 12,000km travelled is minimal, the tolerance on the dipstick is over 500ml for nearly every engine.
  9. On average I get about 3500km between regens depending on if i am towing or not. Mine only regens at freeway speeds so I do not notice it apart from the light coming on for 20 minutes roughly.
  10. So the real question is why is the engine producing so much soot to need a regen every few hundred km???? If it is regenerating that often there is something seriously amiss.
  11. River perch, they grow to about 35cm Lots of people confuse them with jew....different mouth shape, no black dot at the base of the pectoral fin and no silver dots on the flanks.
  12. Did the rounds from Nudgee to St Helena this morning looking for winteries.....didn't find any. The paddock in front of the airport is alive with lots of mack tuna...caught two on silly string just because they were in my way travelling through....like speed bumps they are. I could have spent all day there catching them on small plastics, but the whiting were the main attraction. So where are the winteries to be found currently?? Looking for them from St Helena through to Bribie if anyone has a report. Apart from the jelly beans there were a couple of tailor, a few flathead and some flounder caught....all released to keep a smile on someone else's face.
  13. What is your best bass from there Rayke? Mine is 61cm.....gave up chasing them after that....figured that is enough.

  15. they target the young and stupid....so many like these dicks on youtube these days.... They are on my ignore list with lots of others.
  16. 3.5kg is close to 8lb (7.7lb) It is subjective to the anchor design if you go entirely by weight to suit your boat.....some will hold at that weight...some won't. A true Danforth 8lb should hold your 4.35m boat....as long as you have enough chain and rope out to suit the depth and the current....snig it short and it will fail 99% of the time.
  17. I was almost shocked to pay $1.73 for diesel last week after paying between $2 and $2.30 a litre for so long. My longest lasting AGM battery was a Giant 160 AH lasting about 7 years with regular heavy drawdowns....was cheap then. I don't think there is much difference these days in lead acid or AGM batteries...lithium has a lot of variation and cost or brand name doesnt mean too much really. I am holding off upgrades until the lithium replacement comes on the shelves....will be the death of lithium.
  18. I think you will find the ECU may not work without other parts of the car's input and force it into crank no start or limp mode. Car engines are getting too damned complicated to easily fit into other things like boats. I would be looking for a diesel engine with an injector pump to marinize. They are generally very reliable and adaptable and relatively cheap these days. Do not go common rail diesel unless it is designed for equipment....equipment models only get input from sensors pertaining to the engine, as in air delivery system, cooling system, exhaust system and oil system. How many horsepower are you actually looking for?
  19. I have lost count of the number of times I have redone things done by "experts". If you want something done right, do it yourself. Car dealers services are awful for overcharging.....I was asked if I want my wipers changed for $90 at the service done two weeks ago. This dealer has done full service on this vehicle since new and a receive a full inspection report with each service. I said there is a rattle in the front end when on gravel and idling forward....they found the same to be lower control arm bushings and has been damaged for a long time....so why was this not picked up in all the previous inspections? The car has 45k on the clock. Anyway they fessed up missing it on previous inspections and fixed it under warranty. They also said to fix it under warranty would have to happen within the next month when warranty runs out....at least they offered that I suppose. Another dealer did a service on another ute I own....ran like **** as i left....went around the block and drove back in the driveway....they did not A fit a new air cleaner filter or B even put the Air cleaner filter lid back on....and yet close the bonnet over a big hole and signed off on the work. Same dealer advised against fitting an oil catch can to the engine as it will surely damage the EGR system and inevitably the turbo... Yet fitting one does not void their warranty according to Mitsubishi.... How do you read that? Telwater goes to the expense of fitting marine grade switches to their boats and then use std copper wire and cheap connectors and none of it is enclosed away from salt air....
  20. Mate used to live on a property that had Aligatr Creek as his back boundary....about 20km north of Rocky. 3 to 4m crocs were not uncommon even in the fresh there. There was a nest in the reeds when i was last there.

    tanning skins

Get a tanning kit rather than buying the raw chemicals.....ratios are fairly critical for a long lasting skin. Keep them cool as possible at all times during the prep and tanning / breaking process to minimise bacterial growth. Breaking the skins is probably the hardest part of the whole process but it just takes patience to do it right. Very satisfying when a good skin is the end result.
  22. You can't get far enough up breakfast creek in a boat for it to be fresh water.
  23. There are a few snapper to be had there, but there is more numbers of them up near Clara Rocks. Current can be an issue there though.
  24. The snaggier the area, the less I fish it with baits during the main part of the run. I usually fish plastics if I am intent on fishing that spot during the run. At the ends of the run and change of tides i fish with just enough weight to get me to the bottom then lift it up a metre or so, or fish unweighted livies if it is shallow enough. During the change of tide large predatory fish often rise to the top 3m of water feeding. As a side note, during the peak run larger fish are often just up current from the structure riding the pressure wave....this sometimes occurs in rivers as well.
