mangajack got a reaction from Angry51 in Where are you fishing this Australia Day / Long Weekend
I did Cabo River this morning....went to launch at Uhlmann Road at 6am and there was no trailer parks left so slipped around to Beachmere to launch.
Bakers Flats was impassable until 40 mins after the turn to run in.
Spent the time annoying bream with fake fish, piercing their lips and sending them back while waiting for passage. Best bream in the mid 30's.
Water quality was pretty lousy overall but there was plenty of bait schools around.
Picked up a few flathead for the day, brought one home for a dinner date.
To be honest I thought Cabo River would have fished better than it did today...
Did see one boat playing with little bull sharks about a metre long...nothing out of the ordinary for the Cabo though. I do my best to avoid them.

mangajack got a reaction from charlie.hans.fishing in Best Fishing Kayak under $1500
Bare hull is 39kg....it is too heavy for long days on the water and too heavy in the rough stuff.
You will need to keep your weights overall to under double your body weight maximum....includes you, your gear, the kayak your drinks and food etc.
I used to use a Perception Swing 4m kayak, it weighed 28kg with the seat, and rod holders and paddle. It was suitable for about 8 hour sessions in open water.
Viking Profish 4.5 are a good kayak but a little heavier than the Swing.
look for one that has a forward facing rod holder between your knees....you will need it when you have to chase a big fish.

I used to wade the last km or so from River Heads (Fraser Island side) for reasonable catches, bream grunter and flathead in my younger years. If you wade the same area at low tide there is a chance of nailing a big golden there.....
It used to be sandy and rocky when i used to fish there, but looking at google earth images it might be more muddy now??? Either way it would be worth investigating.

I looked in the Pine last monday, nothing schooling at low tide.
The river has changed structure woith the 2022 floods....what was 10m is now 8m or less in lots of places.

Getting pumped for Australia Day and extended long weekend. Trailering the boat from Brisbane to Hervey Bay for the extended weekend
Wind conditions predominantly light easterlys before increasing in the afternoon. Hopefull the island will give me some protection in afternoons.
Plan will be simple - explore more central bay searching for the birds in the morning before circling back tighter in when conditions start blowing.

mangajack got a reaction from kmcrosby78 in Engine Flushing
When flushing my motor I start at full hose pressure then back the flow back about 1/2 so there is still a good amount of water going through but you feel the thermostat opening and closing regulating the temperature in the powerhead. The cycling of the thermostat is easily felt in the tell tale water stream. I let the motor cycle the thermostat for a good 5 minutes then feed through the saltaway, shutting down the motor just before the last of the saltaway leaves the canister. This leaves a residue of saltaway inside the motor on shut down.
I set the revs to about 1000rpm for the flush.

Get it welded back on then you can fit a skeg guard as well for more peace of mind.
Skeg guards are not a sked replacement, only a protection add on.
