Prawns in brisbane

Hi everyone, just started prawning late in the season last year in northside spots around brisbane - cabbage tree creek, nudgee beach, boggy creek, north pine river. Just wondering if anyone can confirm if they're coming by any since Christmas? Have headed out a few times in Dec and Jan and I've not come by any. Hitting up the usual spots at high tide in the AM as well.  Is this normal? I thought they came on in Dec and Jan??

I looked in the Pine last monday, nothing schooling at low tide.

The river has changed structure woith the 2022 floods....what was 10m is now 8m or less in lots of places.

Yep I found the same as well in Dec out there - the spot down near the creek mouth past the bridge is all different now - can't say I want to be the first to loose a net there either...  If you have any luck let me know - I'll update as well when I come by them

I heard about some small prawns in the Logan. Have not been to look though.

They haven’t been around in the Brisbane River yet in numbers, maybe the next full or new moon they will be in. Have been getting a couple good bananas though.

Looking forward to the prawn run this year. Missed out last year thanks to the weather. Hoping we don’t get another flood this year.  Better get the net out and start practicing. Or better still, make a list of friends who can competently throw the net while I skilfully manoeuvre the tinnie around the other 50 hopefuls.

Options perhaps We need a couple of options for an extra driver/ sounder interpreter for @Kat's boat. We have one potential but he's a very busy man at times.

I missed out last year for diff reasons myself, usually get a feed though from the banks up past deep water bend boat ramp. Il post here if I have any luck in coming weeks.

I did notice some decent sized banana prawns on the surface in 10m of water at the bulk commodities wharf at Pinkenba around the 7th january....tailor were smashing them. None showing on the sounder though.

Really struggling to find consistant good live bait areas in the Bris River  down towards the wharves lately.

Where do they get prawns around colmslie??  Ive checked that area 10 times in the past month without finding one. Supposed to be nearly year round there.

In my experience they definitely aren’t year round at Colmslie, generally they are there in numbers this time of year I have found but it is looking like they might start coming in a bit later, maybe February. I have caught them from about now-July in numbers and have caught a few in October too - though when they are on you will see plenty of Facebook posts about it.

Watching Doug Burt's weekly report this week, Stewie said they are getting some smaller specimens a fair way up the Logan and they should be bigger and further downstream in a couple of weeks.

 @Bretto77can competently throw the net (understatement). He can even do it while I am "driving the boat" without getting thrown to the sharks!  I will never forget the first time I saw him throw - was winter at night but I suddenly felt very hot

The only reason I have not ended up with the sharks thus far is by employing an extensive disaster mitigation plan and expecting the worst....

Was down at deep water bend Sunday. Noticed some very pictures on the sounder around these parts. heaps of little ones (and snags so be careful) but nothing sizable yet.

rain this week and high tides in the morning so planning on looking about early wednesday morning at cabbage tree creek

Cabbage tree creek was empty too.  Took a look out from Nudgee beach and no one was around either.  Think I'll be leaving it until the end of Feb now.
Such a shame - there were bucket loads around this time last year!

I found some bait prawns before dawn on friday morning in the pine...enough for a session bait fishing for snapper at redcliffe.

Just had a good session in the pine. They've really turned on at high tide in the 10m hole past the highway bridge near deep water bend ramp. Took nearly 3kg in about an hour. With the rain coming though it's hard to say if they'll stick around
