prawning for n00bs?

Hello! Just joined but been appreciating the info in the forums  

I’ve just started a month of holidays and decided I’d try some prawning. 
im so super new but I’ve seen people clean up at Colmslie and so that’s kinda…my go to. 
 

thinking about making the trek to pine river. 
 

just looking for general pointers any tips or like dos and donts. 
 

I have a 9’ cast net and working on getting the throw right. Old mate at the jetty was nice and told me about bait (cat food and breadcrumbs)  

 

tried low tide last night and thinking about trying hightide pre sunrise in the coming week. 
 

Any advice is appreciated!

Hi, 

There haven’t been many prawns in the river lately. Not enough to bother prawning. Wait for the lunar new year and see if any come in then otherwise they should be around next year in the colder months.

Oh mate you Saved me hours of no success. That is a little disappointing, I’ll be back at work by then!

These couple of storms should kick them off shortly.

They were not schooled up on Thursday in the Bris River and only caught one large prawn.....this next few days should see some of the holes getting schools. 

Two years ago I was getting good numbers of bait prawns early December.

Interestingly the river beam trawlers are working 2-5m of water out from Luggage Point Thursday morning.....would be worth looking there when the trawlers are not working I think.

Where at Colmslie do they get the prawns??

Off the beach near the jetty. I saw it a couple of times, heaps of buckets full. 
I’ve got some bait to try and chum them.
