  8. ROUND 1

    SUNDAY MARCH 3

Sea Eagles 36  vs  24 Rabbitohs Allegiant Stadium 1:30pm AEST
One was full of ‘bull in the china shop’ excitement when kick off of round 1 occurred…
Well, it was round one, and the Bunnies are still in their post Reynolds ‘Alice in Wonderland’ wondering…. Manly won…
Roosters 20  vs  10 Broncos Allegiant Stadium 3:30pm AEST
The Roosters looked red hot…. helped by a misfiring Broncos outfit

    THURSDAY MARCH 7

Knights 28  vs.  12 Raiders McDonald Jones Stadium 8:00pm AEST
fancy that… Ricky was a happy chappy

    FRIDAY MARCH 8

Warriors 12  vs.  16 Sharks Go Media Stadium 6:00pm AEST
    another, fancy that..

Storm 8  vs.  0 Panthers AAMI Park 8:05pm AEST
okay, come clean… who tipped against the Storm in Round 1 of a new season?

    SATURDAY MARCH 9

Eels 26 vs.  8 Bulldogs Commbank Stadium 5:30pm AEST

Yep, it’s a new season… did anyone actually expect a new dog in the kennel?

Titans 4  vs.  28 Dragons Cbus Super Stadium 7:35pm AEST
After the media’s build up of the Titans under Des Hasler…. It was quickly obvious most of the team can’t understand his mumblings.

    SUNDAY MARCH 10

Dolphins 18  vs. 43 Cowboys Suncorp Stadium 4:05pm AEST
Okay, so after this game I looked hard for a positive, mark for the Dolphins… they kept the Cowboys to under 50…

    Byes: Tigers

  9. well, here we go again... I think.
is it just me, or has the NRL's build up for 2024 Round 1 season opening kick off (on home soil) been nothing short of pathetic.... anyway.
Good tipping every one, and enjoy the opening 2 games on a narrower and shortened field, Las Vegas style....
Oh by the way, this NRL's spiel about expanding the game to the US is unpicked up doggy poo... it's solely about getting into to the US's betting markets.. just saying, it must be the cynic in me.

The draw I have put up is the only compatible one I could find... please check the details and Qld times for kick offs

Dolphins vs. Cowboys Suncorp Stadium 3:05pm AEST

    Byes: Tigers

  10. Thanks for setting up for 2024, e'cat.... I think I'm all signed up... and rearing to go.

The way last season turned out, this season is looking very interesting.... the clubs that were in freefall last season appear to be heading in that same direction this time around...
The clubs that started heading up last season appear to have strengthened their rosters and their next generation players have another NRL season's experience to build on.... except the Sharks, their fans have already added and turned on an extra porch light in hope of a 2nd coming in their lifetime....

With more depth, younger players given their chance and last season's experience.
I, like others, am expecting a more consistant run for the Dolphins.

  11. FINALS WEEK 3  results…
    Preliminary final 1:

    Friday, September 22, 7:50pm

    Panthers 38  vs  4 Storm
The black cats are still roaring, pawing and clawing their way to a possible 3 in a row grand final result…
in the finals weeks 1 & 2 the Storm showed it has been a long season for them, hit with constant major injuries to key positions and the ‘week in week out’ heavier support load, the ‘lesser’ engine room players doing the hard yards, started to wither

    Preliminary final 2:
    Saturday, September 23
    Broncos 42  vs  12 Warriors
3 years -  from wooden spooner’s to Grand Finalist’s… the Broncos have had a huge 2 years of rebuilding to get here… Powerful and maturing talent is spread across the field… their next outing will require a much greater 80 minutes of commitment and effort, then was on display in this game.
if they fall short, 2024-25 are looking good years for them…
the Warriors showed throughout the season, that with the right coach and a fully committed team on board, top 4 finals appearences are not just a dream…

Just a reminder, the southern  eskimo  daylight saving time kicks in early next Sunday morning

  12. FINALS WEEK 3
    Preliminary final 1:

    Friday, September 22, 7:50pm

Penrith Panthers vs Melbourne Storm  Accor Stadium, Homebush 7:50pm

    Preliminary final 2:
    Saturday, September 23
Brisbane Broncos vs New Zealand Warriors  Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane  7:50pm

🤔 so, if the Warriors haka over the Broncos, could we happily live our lives knowing that over the Tasman Ditch, there would be 2 Mondays of over tired Kiwi school kids, and their parents blaming the NRL for timing bias .....

The grand final will be held at Accor Stadium on  Sunday October 1, kick off at 7:30pm.

  13. FINALS - WEEK 2  results…

    Friday, September 15
    Semi-final 1:
    Storm 18  vs  14 Roosters

Big moments… Big calls… like them or not… the chooks got plucked

    Saturday, September 16

    Semi-final 2:

    Warriors 40  vs  10 Knights
riding on a wing and a pray, the Knights did over achieve this season….

The NRL’s final’s system has again played out to the intended format… fixture season ladder finishing teams 1 – 4 to meet in week 3, for the designed (hoped for) outcome of teams 1 and  2 playing the grand final…

  14. the games are getting fewer so one needs to savour what's left of season 2023....
this round is about emptying the fodder bin... the injury ravaged Storm v Roosters game may be played out as  a 'war of attrition'..... a lot of firepower missing from both teams, patience and grabbing those 1%ers may be the way.... then again 😄

    FINALS - WEEK 2

    Friday, September 15
    Semi-final 1:
Storm vs Roosters  AAMI Park, 7.50pm

    Saturday, September 16

    Semi-final 2:

Warriors vs Knights GO Media Stadium, 4.05pm

.... took a punt and bought tix after last Thursday’s loss to the Storm. Looking good to be in it now, fingers crossed 🤞.

IMO Kelvin, a fairly safe punt to have taken...🙂

the system is designed to for the lower top 8 teams to be eliminated in week 1 and the pretenders to be eliminated in weeks 2 and 3, leaving the top 2 teams to advance to the grand final... so in saying that the system, (baring significant injuries- massive form slumps) is designed so the top 2 teams meet in the grand final = 2023 Panthers v Broncos

  16. NRL 2023 FINALS - WEEK 1 results…

    Friday September 8
    Second qualifying final:
    Broncos 26  vs  0 Storm

The Storm came, the rain came, but it was the Broncos providing 80 minutes of microbursts..
The Storm not only suffered on the score board, the injuries from this game look fairly brutal for their week 2 clash… Pap’s season is over, Coates limped off with an ankle injury that  looked severe, and 2 HIA rulings may have Seve and Loiero out for the mandatory 10/11 day period

    Saturday September 9
    First qualifying final:
    Panthers 32  vs  6 Warriors
This game was always destined to be an uphill battle for the Warriors…without Johnson, the final score told how steep the incline was..

     Second elimination final:

    Sharks 12  vs  13  Roosters
Fancy that, the Sharks were into week 2… until the Chooks did a  Lazarus  in the dying stages of the game, and made the Sharkies the first of the week 1, elimination fodder….
Roosters sneaked in to be week 2 fodder….

    Sunday September 10
    First elimination final:

    Knights 30  vs  28 Raiders
well, that turned out to be one hard fought out game… Raiders have their Mad Monday, tomorrow…
Knights move up to the fodder bin, for finals week 2

Who is the obvious winner in the first game ? I would say Broncos, but can they shake the Storm hoodoo ?

Hoodo? Kryptonite more like it 😄 5284 days... 2009 since they have had a win at suncorp over the Storm.
I'm not that confident that some Broncos have fixed their game losing mental switch offs, in the last 7-8 days...
but it should be a good spectacle to watch
