Looks the goods.
We are up FNQ, we are looking to make something similar for shallower sought of water <100m but to outrun the bloody sharks... My theory is if you pull hooks on fish the sharks will get anyways... So we want high retrieval.. any suggestions on motors etc.. were looking at fabricating from mobility scooters etc as they push people along quiet well, good torqe..
or from one of those E scooters you see now..

If you are  disagree with the mackeral study and green push agenda to close them to pros and recos alike.. Like cmon, only 17% along the whole qld coastline..( Except in Yepoon where Greg says their is a black hole that has sucked them into the centre of the Earth for 50 years) then sign the petition. Go to facebook group Stop the lockout and its up there. Might not achieve anything now but... Atleast we can say that we opposed it if/when they are closed. Also show fisheries we are are watching them. Also watch this space as there will be a letter on the Stop the Lockout webpage to print  and send to your local MP or Email... but if you can post by mail that shows some conviction and gets them to notice somethings up. I will update once the letter is up in the next week or so. Also i spoke to the blokes mentioned above on the working group. We are on the same page. They wanna help spread the petition and the Letters to MP. Sunfish are also onboard. So if anyone can do anything to help let me know. Also ALLSTARS INSALT Qld fishing comp group are on board. Good comp if anyones keen. Good prizes etc. Look em up.

Also look these up.. TrollTrue heads. usa yank thing. about 10$ each. Made of lead painted. Hell easy to rig dead bait. First time i used it i got 2 decent 10 kg spanish in half hr. Used on a baby barracuda and a gar. Was very impressed. Slow trolled 1-2 knots with elec motor . Apparently you can troll em the usual 8 knots. my other mac that morning was on a live School mac.

Fastest bleed out is cut the gills on  one side. Heart pumps blood to the gills to re oxygenate. Iff gills are cut then it just squirts out
Same for fish. Dont cut the throat. Then your cutting the pump. (the heart) I wrote a thing on this ages ago. I used to be a longliner and have fished with other Pros that supply islands and general fish stores. 
Then by removing the liver (with the guts) and the fins and tail removes the majority of ammonia and sharkiness.
Next time you catch say 2 tailor... cut ones throat and the other cut its gill. leave in bucket of water 10 mins. Then Ice..
Compare the fillets when home.

strop its tail, hang over side with head in water.. or a bait tank etc on boat. Just not into the ice water strait away or blood will congeal and not bleed out fully

Shark is great for eating especially the 1 mtr range..
Tricks. As soon as u catch it Bat over the head. Cut fins off and put knife through all the gills on one side. Strop tail and put in seawater to bleed out 5-10 mins. 
Remove head and guts... Then eski for few hours,
Once you get home fillet and skin. Then cut fillet into bread size squares and fillet the fillet so it is 1-2 cm thick. The thinner the better. Then chop into strips and put in a bowl of milk for atleast 4 hours. overnite is fine.
When ready to cook rinse off pieces then roll in flour etc and cook.
I have left it in the milk in fridge for a cpl days too. It is still great
My kids love shark nuggets and even far north qld fish snobs have said it was nice. not knowing it was shark.
When I have a quiet day or all the big ones bust me off, there is always a feed of shark if reqd. I just tell me Mrs its Brown/Bronze coral trout.. hahah

Spanish Mackeral Fishery Working Group Communiquae 17-18 MAy
In short a team has been assembled to study Mackeral numbers. This, as I have seen off NSW coasts previously has lead to closures and lockouts.
Snapper, Pearl perch have been limikted (I think with some warrant during breeds) Black Jew No Take.(dunno where I stand on this)
But Spanish Mackeral? This will be next on the chop I feel. Bag limits have already been reduced to 6 per Boat (Fair enough). But honestly there are shitloads of them.
Spanish Mac are a fast growing species with a life cycle of 8-10 yrs, Prolific Breeders, and hence a sustainable species. We already have massive Green zones along the GBR, Pretty much North of Cooktown No Population, hence 100's of miles of more or less unfished area. Then the Mackeral have 1000's of miles from the Tip QLD to Broome and beyond to proliferate. The Migratory Fish that travel the East Coast are a staple fish for the Average Rec Fisho. Commercial fisheries also rely on Mackeral.
 
If you want to ban an unsustainable fishery and make a difference... Choose Orange Roughy
 
I urge you to read the report, Easy enough to find. 
My mate who owns a Wholesale fish shop that deals in alot of Mac is very worried about this. He basically said when I sent him a photo of my last catch "you better frame that because it may be your last soon enough"
 
The report dosnt mention Closures (YET)  But when these teams of scientists assemble there is always a political and self motivated Agenda to push. Watch this space. Mackeral along East coast will be No take or very seasonal if these mobs get there way. It will all be somehow wrapped up with the Palaschook Govt and the Green Vote.
See what you think and read btw the lines. Remember there is usually no public consult. Just changes shoved thru and your right to fish and feed your family removed. They tried this off sydney and the
'STOP THE LOCKOUT"  facebook team/movement quashed this. Worth checking them out. They have been advised and are already on board with watching and following this intently. They are still trying to overturn green zones locking familes out of fishing areas all along the NSW coast. A grubby Obeid Govt got this thru by buying green votes with this. Disgusting. That prick can rot.
 
Remember, if we do nothing and a closure gets in, it is near impossible to repeal. I encourage you to write and share this with your local members, Fishing celebrity's etc. Get ahead of it. 10 mins to email, or a lifetime of whinging when your right to Fish for Mackeral is taken away

Thats why I am so pissed. I havent seen an ounce of change in numbers in 10 yrs in cairns.
I go out once every 8 weeks , get my 3 spanish , a few schoolies etc. Come home... Feed family.
 
I dont know why your not getting them Yepoon. I got a mate there and Mackay. They are Getting Plenty.. Said was better than Cairns.

Try fish bomby / Pinnacles in open water approx 20 -30 mtr with a rise up to 5-10 mtrs below surface. Fish the pressure face.. Side current hits reef as thats where Bait is... Jig up Live Fusileers. (MAC crack i call em) Live. And single strand wire only. Small swivels.. Also tow them behind Down rigger and slow on surface 2kts. around the reefs.
lures i have success .. halco 130 max yellowfin (1 pick) jig it, cast it, troll it.
Rapala x rap 20 blue sardine.
 
And coastal i nail em on ZMAN soft plastics with TT headlocks heads
4 inch Diezels or jerk shadz.. natural colors.. Smoky shad, bad shad, nuke pilchard et,
and the humble full pilly... single 8/0 in it hidden

Youtube Buzzy Thaos adventures on youtube. He gives some pointers.
You wanna be off areas of rivers, streams. Sttep backdrop land helps.
You are looking for ancient river beds where the spring water surfaces..
Or go to the trawler base with a few cartons of beer. That will buy you all sorts of marks. They avoid wonkys as there boards get stuck in em and thus sink em..
 
also Bathymaps is worth a look. 80$ 1 year.. then it gives you a base to start looking with a good idea of where to go. they  have videos linked in bathymaps to help show you what to look for.

I am working with the Commercial and Reco Anglers on this. Along with STOP THE LOCKOUT
It is a divide and conquer tactic. Get the recos to turn on the Commercial sector. Recos will get minimal disruption and agree. Once commercial is out then the Recos will be punted. Same as what they did with the Black Jew.
But on a united front we can fight this. If this dodgy science estimate passes it will be an inroad to shut any fishery on the East COAST GBRMNP. The dodge estimates are being peer reviewed by a group select by the science team.(wink wink). The DAF (fisheries Qld ) have been infiltrated by radical greens. The long term objective is to Lock all of out of the reef.
