  1. Because my leader is just over 2 metres long. I have 2 rods for my heavier style of fishing one is a vintage short Jarvis walker rod though it’s old it’s a great short 2pc rod (slides in above the reel seat rather then in the middle) has ceramic guides and a decent reel seat and a very fast action idk what happend to Jarvis walker but you couldn’t complete my vintage Jarvis walker to modern day Jarvis walker rods the Jarvis walker rods of today are pretty garbage. and my other rod for this heavier style of fishing is a daiwa RZ 6-9kg although towards the end of this year I’m gonna upgrade to a 7 foot atomic arrows offshore instead. So that’s why I use a FG instead of a swivel because my rods are short 7 foot and the Jarvis walker one is up to my nose and I’m 5’7 so I image it would be 5’4 or 5’5
  2. Yeah I’ll just use a little bead above the sinker the bead might hit the leader knot sometimes but because it’s small it won’t go over the knot and tangle it and yeah split shots do weaken leaders a bit so I steer away from them . Yeah I’m keen to land a jewie this year so I’ll keep trying hopefully I can go out once a month or every fortnight for a night sesh at this spot
  3. Yeah it was my first time fishing with a liveie luckily I knew what I was doing . The only mistake I made was I didn’t add a bead or line stopper above the sinker and my FG got a little tangled cause the sinker kept sliding over the knot. Hopefully next time I go out there I can manage to get something on a liveie it seems like a great fishing spot plenty of structure and bait and good rep there’s also squid and cuttlefish there although I didn’t see any that night I can you tell you the spot if you want Just ask via pm I don’t mind telling people spots just as long as it’s not 20-70 people because I would hate to see a great spot get ruined by a post .
  4. Same although when I go crabbing I get massive mud crabs when using baits on rod/reel setups intended for flathead or Jew and then when I try and land them they drop the bait and swim to the bottom .then I go check the crab pots and I only get tiny blue swimmers or small mud crabs and sometimes small leather jacket and bream somehow end up in the crab pots
  5. Yeah I was hoping for a Jew , big tailor or even a kingfish on the live yellowtail but nothing touched it. I rekon if I stayed longer And rigged up a another mullet slab I would have good something
  6. Yeah it was them for sure they look exactly the same
  7. Tonight the conditions look alright for a fish so I grabbed a few rods. setup 1 shimano stradic FL 1000 10lb Gliss 6lb FC leader matched with light short telescopic rod setup 2 shimano stradic ci4+FB 2500 12lb braid 14lb fc leader matched with daiwa Td nero 2-4kg rod Setup 3 shimano sedona 5000C 19kg/42lb gliss 70lb mono leader matched with vintage Jarvis walker delux short stiff fibreglass rod So I grabbed a few rods and headed to a Bay Area that is surrounded by 2 breakwalls leaving the name of the location out as i don’t want everyone to know the spot . anyway got to the spot first thing I notice when I walk along the jettie a school of yellow tail first thing I do is rig up setup 3 then grab setup 1 and bait a small hook with bread not long the bread is eaten by a yellowtail and I got a live bait for setup 3 I cast setup 3 out and wait . I try fishing with bread for a bit on setup 1 (note not near the yellowtail school ) and all I’m getting is my bait nipped by small butter bream and stripys so I try casting slightly under the jettie as I watch my unweighted bread slowly sink down I see a big quick silver flash come up from nowhere and it literally made my bread vanish 1 second later my line is flying off my spool into the water and I flip my bail and set the hook .after a decent fight My dad manages to land the fish . A nice quality bream was landed and after a few photos was brain spiked and bleed out .can’t remember if it was 33 or 34cm . Anyway no more decent size bream were around I got 1 small bream afterwards but nothing legal I grab setup 2 and put on a cheap metal vibe I got from eBay ages ago after some casting around I keep catching these things me and @AUS-BNE-FISHO. Think they may be a type of pony fish or something along those lines after I catch props 3-4 of these things I stop using the vibe and tie on a squid jig unfortunately no squid or cuttlefish takes the squid jig . I rig up a simple bait rig and put a little piece of mullet on setup 2 intended for flathead or bream after I do that I check setup 3 . Setup 3 had a liveie on it for over a hour now so I assumed the liveie either died or got nipped at . I bring it up and the liveie is in the same condition as it was before I caught it for live bait it was alive as anything I release the liveie back into the water and it swims off fine I then rig up a mullet fillet on setup 3 and cast it out hoping for a bully or a big Jew .time goes by and I decide to grab setup 1 again and see if anything wants to take the bread the same fish I was catching on the vibes kept smashing the bread left right and Center I ended up keeping 4 of these fish for crab pot bait . After that I decided to call it a night and pack up as I bring setup 3 in notice there is barely any bait left just the skin so something definitely had a good go at my bait just don’t know what . Basic conditions Last 2 hours of the run out tide time 6:30-9:00PM moon waning crescent 7 days till new moon temp 20 degrees medium wind level . Note I’ve made the change to fishing sessions instead of river sessions as I don’t always fish my local river and I don’t always fish rivers
  8. Sounds like a decent sesh but yeah shame about the tastes
  9. What line classes and type of line do you have ?
  10. What sort of rods/reels do you have I know learning to fish can be overwhelming at first but what sort of fishing gear/equipment do you have and are there any certain fish speices you would like to catch or techniques you would like to try or are you a complete beginner?
  11. Yeah Fortescue aren’t poisonous they are venomous although I don’t think their venom is strong it’s props similar to bullroat . The difference between venomous and poisonous fish is that venomous fish are safe to eat but are harmful to touch poisonous fish are opposite . Harmful to eat usually safe to touch for example most speices of toadfish are safe to touch but if cooked and eaten you will definitely get ill . Unless your in Japan and the chef is trained to cut certain parts of the toadfish or puffer that are safe to eat and don’t contain the venom
  12. It’s likely a scorpion fish Or a type of fortescue by the looks of it . Welcome to the forum I’m sure you’ll learn heaps feel free to ask questions.
  13. I’m now pretty sure it’s a worn down plastic bushing as it makes no difference in smoothness if I put my headphones in and put music on and spin the reel I feel no resistance or slowing down when the spool reaches the bottom so it’s likely a worn down plastic bushing and the noise is very minor when I’m fishing I’m not going to be able to hear it anyways I can only hear it when I’m in a quiet room . I will be replacing a plastic bushing or a few to make the reel smoother even though it’s already pretty smooth it could do with a new bearing instead of the old worn down plastic bushing on the worm gear
  14. Personally I haven’t tried it but I know it’s different to Gliss made by the same company but different line . I know a few landbased GT guys use WFT braids and it seems to hold up alright. I think cavy fishing on YouTube has used this braid before too in a few of his videos
  15. TBH it’s very minor so I don’t think I’m gonna do anything about it . It could have had the Issue before I pulled it apart or after i only started noticing it after I pulled it apart I’m %100 sure I put everything back together correctly though as everything is working like it should . It’s very minor and I only notice it when it’s quiet . It doesn’t effect the free spin or performance of the reel what so ever so I think I’m just gonna leave it . I will be replacing the bottom worm gear bushing for a bearing though and I might replace a few plastic bushings in the reel to make it a bit smoother and quieter. My guess is the bearing/bushing like you said it’s likely the bushing under the nut has gotten worn down over time because it’s plastic that’s my guess anyway . I could fish with it now and I’d still be happy but I’ll spend a bit of money on bearings to make it a bit nicer
  16. less then a week ago I won a eBay auction and got a shimano stradic ci4+FB 2500 second hand with a full spool of decent 12lb braid for $195 reel is in great condition smooth and light weight. I took the reel apart last night to remove a little excess grease as it was serviced by shimano before being sold on the eBay auction.reel is running nice and smooth now other then that I’ve given it a good wipe down and got rid of any dust I could find on and inside the reel also I stripped about the first 2 metres of braid off that reel as that first 2 metres was damaged the rest is in good condition Gave the braid a coating in silicone spray and it’s ready to fish . Awesome reel will be matching it up with a atomic arrows estuary 3-5kg 2pc when I get that rod although the reel is light enough to use on my bream surface so I might give it a test run on the bream surface .when I get the arrows estuary the reel will be mainly used for flathead tailor snapper
  17. I recently bought a Stradic ci4+FB the 2016 model and gave it a good wipe down and took it apart to make sure it was in working order . After that the reel was excellent but whenever the spool gets low to the spool when I’m reeling it in it makes a sound and I think it touches the rotor . It’s very minor and and barely noticeable and if I lean the reel slightly downwards it doesn’t do it but I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this minor problem/issue
  18. Yes baitcasters are a lot tricker then spinning reels but any shimano reel above the nasci is tricky to take apart and any reel by daiwa above the caldia is pretty tricky to take apart especially the exist LT those reels look like a nightmare to take apart. I think daiwa reels overall are the hardest to take apart and service correctly
  19. Yeah baitcasters a lot more tricky to work on btw what were you oiling on the baitcaster
  20. Shame your not getting anything lately hopefully soon the fishing will fire up a bit. I’m always happy to help with reel issues anytime hopefully once you get another support rod/oscillating guide the reel will be back into working order.
  21. Yes tbh politics is very confusing and boring but it can be interesting sometimes
  22. Yes they do teach science at school and yes I know that sodium and chlorine are heavyier then oxygen and hydrogen. I’ve always been told that the fish hang near the surface or around shallow banks after a flood because the salt sits at the top . I never really understood it so I just took it with a grain of salt (no pun intended) because I never seen anyone prove it but I thought it was worth a mention anyway
  23. I’ve seen you’re videos on YouTube . I started fishing when I was 12 I tried fishing before I was 12 with no success so when I was 12 I bought a shimano fx 1000 and spooled it up with 4lb mono and I had that matched to a 5 foot something telescopic rod I watched your video .how to catch bream bream basics. And I started from there now I’m so much better at fishing since I started when I was 12 but it was that 1 video that helped me to learn how to fish . I normally fish with lures and plastics now with decent gear I have a Stradic and couple of sedonas and proper graphite rods daiwa Td nero and atomic arrows bream surface are my main 2 rods I use . every now and then I use that unweighted bait technique with light 2-6lb leader when nothing else is biting works like a charm . No one in my family fish’s so I’m self taught can’t express how thankfull I am for that video thank you that was the first fishing technique I mastered
  24. Really I always thought salt sits at the top of the water but it makes more sense that the salt is found in deep hopes I think your right
  25. The reason fish such as mulloway hang around the edges and shorelines in dirty flood water is because the salt water is closer to the surface then the freshwater the freshwater is midwater to deep but at the top 2 foot of water is salt and brackish
