Obviously don’t understand the correlation between high atmospheric CO2 concentrations and temperature, and missed that today the globe had its hottest average temp since records began 😳

But I thought global warming or climate change, whatever they are calling it this week was raising the ocean levels?

Well said @Andrew P. @Drop Bear and I were lucky enough to attend the World Recreational Fishing Conference in Melbourne last week. The emphasis was on the role science plays in maintaining a sustainable fishery, and how citizen science contributes to that effort. It was very reassuring to hear speakers from around the world talking about how much science goes into managing fish stocks. Australia is right up there in terms of fisheries management and we are so lucky to have a great fishery and a comparatively low population. We still have the opportunity to make sure that rec fishing is a viable pastime into the future. Despite what you might read from keyboard warriors claiming that fishing regulations are made up by desk-bound greenies, all these very smart researchers are very keen fishermen themselves who have a vested interest in maintaining fish stocks for future generations.
Congrats on the catch @Neil Stratford and good on you for contributing to the science of fisheries management.

I wouldn't call it a 'lockout' with a couple of short closed seasons. It came from the Fisheries Department, so calling it a 'green agenda' is a long bow too. The risk if you stop this is that we never get ahead of the fishing pressure as happened with SA snapper and NSW mulloway. Then you are looking at more severe restrictions. And if we can't get our house in order this might be used to justify more marine parks - which really are lockouts.

Where do you sign if you support the changes. I am sure that plenty of people think the changes will be good for the species, similar to the snapper changes.

    Right guys
If you are  disagree with the mackeral study and green push agenda to close them to pros and recos alike.. Like cmon, only 17% along the whole qld coastline..( Except in Yepoon where Greg says their is a black hole that has sucked them into the centre of the Earth for 50 years) then sign the petition. Go to facebook group Stop the lockout and its up there. Might not achieve anything now but... Atleast we can say that we opposed it if/when they are closed. Also show fisheries we are are watching them. Also watch this space as there will be a letter on the Stop the Lockout webpage to print  and send to your local MP or Email... but if you can post by mail that shows some conviction and gets them to notice somethings up. I will update once the letter is up in the next week or so. Also i spoke to the blokes mentioned above on the working group. We are on the same page. They wanna help spread the petition and the Letters to MP. Sunfish are also onboard. So if anyone can do anything to help let me know. Also ALLSTARS INSALT Qld fishing comp group are on board. Good comp if anyones keen. Good prizes etc. Look em up.

There is going to be a closed season for Spanish Mackerel and a reduction in catch limit.
For recreational fishers a reduction to 1 per person and 2 maximum for the boat when 2 or more fishermen are onboard.
The closed season for southern Qld is in 3 week blocks for February and March for a total of 6 weeks for next year.
With science pointing towards only 17 percent of the unfished biomass left, these changes are being introduced.
Further more professional fishing total qouta has reduced as well.

Come for a dive with me smart mouth. Perhaps stop being a know-it-all keyboard warrior and come for a real see for yourself look. I’m guessing you’ve never actually been anywhere near this area, and you just like being a troll.

That's the real aim of this sort of thing, to take away people's desire to fish. It's the same thing they do with hunting ect, it's about reducing the number of every day people that engage in outdoor activities.
It's not about looking after animals or the environment it's all about controlling what people think, what people do and making them city centric sheep that just live and do as they are told.

All I can attest is areas that I fish and dive (Coastal and offshore waters off Yeppoon) are in my experience, based on current observations and catches compared with that which I experienced 30yrs ago when I first visited here are merely a shadow of what there once were. If you can’t see we’ve completely ruined it your either delusional or have a vested interest (eg pro-fisherman).

Apologies for not producing a statistical analysis data plot research paper. 30yrs ago I didn’t think we’d end up this rooted.

I've taken up diving recently and have been taking a look what's actually down there, and I can tell you i was shocked at just how barren many places really are, Including these "godly" green zones. And to be honest I woulnt believe a word Dr Ayling said about anything,

I've always thought that fragile reef areas, need to be shut like this for about 10 months per year to preserve stocks, otherwise there will be nothing left soon, and its getting very close to it now..
Especially along the Southern Great Barrier Reef from about Mackay to Bundy which has been absolutely flogged to death for the last 40 yrs. Like open it only for a month in Dec and then again in Jun. And Same for those extremely rare Spanish Mackerel which are on the verge of extinction in Qld waters.
For both commercial and Rec though.

I think SEQWater did a close to perfect job this time around. Lessons learned from 2011. I thought the media and the types of questions asked of the SEQwater spokesperson were really unfair. They timed the water releases near perfect to minimise both flooding and the risk of the Dam overfowing, but the media wanted someone to blame.
