    Hi all
I know it is a bit (a lot) early, bit I just thought I would wish the AFO community a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope everyone has managed in this weird year, with the virus locking lots of places and people down 'till a little while ago, meaning not very many things around have been active! I hope everyone had a good year and will have a good Christmas.
    Cheers Hamish 🙂

In the 1970s/1980s I remember SEQ TV in QLD had a weekly fishing show with Stan Tappenden ? called Hook Line + Sinker.
One really good bit of advice was how to freeze yabbies so that they didn't go mushy when thawed.
All I remember was that the process involved putting them cold water and salty water before boiling them. I've forgotten the details, but remember them being really tough, bright red and excellent bait after thawing.
Does anyone recall how this is done?

Personally I prefer hardbodie lures for tailor but if you gonna use bait I would highly recommend yellowtail dead or alive this also works for kingfish to although I’ve never landed kingfish

Tailor and salmon I would mostly catch spinning metal lures and would occasionally catch kingfish, bonito and even tuna on them as by catch. If I target kingfish I generally used live baits under balloons to avoid snags or weightless baits in a burley trail such as squid, gar or pilchard. These days I would be throwing stickbaits and poppers for them if I still lived down that way as I am better equipped with the gear required now.
    Keep us updated 🙂

    Hi all,
I am new to this site and just wanted to share that Moruya Breakwall is a good fishing spot. I have caught a 70cm Banjo Shark and several Kelp fish there. I was using defrosted squid and pilchard as bait. If you are ever on South Coast then this spot is recommended.

Headed out with @Leosonfire this morning for a shot at the Rous with some bottom bashing and floating for Macks.
Weather was way better than forecast when we left.
Managed a few unders squire and tuskies before landing this keeper at 34cm. Dinner sorted.

Leo hooked up to something with strong short but powerful runs. Could have been a decent tuskie we were thinking. Anyway the sucker spat the hook (or it pulled) and that was all she wrote until I landed a 45cm schoolie on the bottom just after we'd
    re-positioned ourselves.
The mackerel line got 2 hits but no hookups. There were mackerel busting up all around us, but Leo couldn't get one to take his slug.
About 10.30 we decided top give it away at the Rous and head for Green Island.
Not 5 minutes into the journey the wind sprung up and was getting stronger. The Bay did what it does and accordingly went from calm to atrocious with white caps everywhere and waves 1 - 1.5 metres. Checked Willy and it was blowing 20knots. The ride home was a bit on the slow and bumpy side and at times a little wet. Also there were a few nut cracker moments, one requiring a temporary stoppage until the stomach had returned to normal. Leo found this particularly amusing.
I made the call to skip Green and head back to the ramp. You can't always trust the forecast.

    Fish with a story.
Just prior to this GT  I lost a 17 kg Mac rite at the boat after a half hr fight on 20 lb braid on lite spin gear (pfleuger arbor and 4-6 kg daiwa rod) I was flicking Z MAN Diezel mood ring 3 inch. They go well usually, Esp if you paint the tail yellow.
So nuffing for another half hour. I was pushing for time as the ramp I use is mud bank at 1 mtr of tide.
So what happens as im ripping the lure in to get goin it takes off 10 ft from the boat and i saw a silver flash giving me hope. . 20 seconds later the spool is half empty. Thinking possibly another big mac I threw the anchor, Started the motor and gave chase. Half an hour into it i figured possibly a big trevally. I couldnt bring myself to cut him off so I chased and chased and chased. He sat 5 mtrs off the bottom the whole fight as each time i went over him thats where he was on the sounder.
An hour and a half later and a couple of miles (see track) he finaly gave up. So I dragged him in and took a quick selfie. Not a bad fish EST 30 kg on 20 lb braid (suffix) plus as that eski is 1.2 mtrs long. Then let him go.
Then I gunned it back to my anchor float and retrieved it.
Then the heavens opened up... absolutely pelted down and had a 6 mile run strait into it in an open tinny. Not fun
Remember the tide issue... well the prediction was right. I got back to ramp, Well 30 mtrs from it. Jumped out and dragged myself thru the mud well up to my ass. Drove the ute down, Ran out the 4wd winch back to the tinny so another treck thru the mud up to my ass.  Then back thru the mud to the ramp again. Winched the boat across the mud.. Spun the ute around and winched the boat on. Not wanting to filthy up the Family car I sat on the car cover luckily stashed in the tray.
Then got home to... you all know this one..   "where you been, you were meant to be home 3 hrs ago"...
Well you will never believe this story so I atleast had a picture to prove my lateness... HHHhaaa

Pfleugar arbor( killer reel, so many good fish, Punch above there weight) not over expensive either and cast a mile.
ZMAN diezel 3 inch moodring. Killer lure. Unbreakable
20 lb suffix braid. well cant fault it.
40 lb flurocarbon joined to 3 inches of single wire in front of lure with albrite knot.
    Flurocarbon to braid FG knot.
