Good day at the eastern arm today launched at dawn to glass out conditions till around 11 when the breeze sprung up. The fish went off the chew around then so we knocked off with a tally of 54 bass and one tandan. few on the flats opposite the water tower and the rest upstream in different spots. All tagged and released except a 170mm one that was too small to tag. Water quality decreased the furthur upstream we went. Decky spot avail sunday no smoking no bananas.

Another hard day with the fish scattered and in small schools. Between the 4 of us we only boated 24 bass with only around 4 being legal size. Beautiful glass out till around 11am. Going by what a couple of the bass regurgated they were feeding on small bait fish. Bit of fun at the ramp when we returned when the brand new electric winch self destroyed with the boat half way up the trailer and the boat relaunched., Fortunately I have a manual back up winch on the winch post above the leccy. The handle for the winch was in the bow of the boat so we used the ratchet and socket from my socket set that I keep in the boot. It was hard going for Mark as the winch was very rusty and stiff glad it wasnt me.
Cheers Ray

Poor day today at the western arm. The dam seems to have rolled over with visibility down to about 4 feet. When we did our shrimp traps apart from having to relocate a couple the pots were either empty of most of the shrimp were dead. We only got 20 live shrimp from 12 pots fortunately we still had a about 12 shrimp left over from out trip to the eastern arm last week. We had to work hard to get 19 bass with the largest going 39cm. I got another stumpy.

That is what they are called in the UK here some people call them patties I call them rissoles. As usual delicious breakfast cooked up for us by Tai whilst Mark and I were busy catching fish upstream in the eastern arm. Took a while to find them and they would move on so we just kept looking. Ending up with 72 bass with plenty in the high 30s and low 40s. As usual all caught on live shrimp. 3 stumpys caught seems to be a few about lately.

I think it is a sad state of affairs that very few females and young people are represented on this site. Been like this for 17 years and it is time for a change. Change is happening with ball sports why not fishing?

ubject:Women in Recreational Fishing Program Expressions of interest
Date:Mon, 3 Jul 2023 02:19:15 +0000
From:Christelle Legrand <Christelle.Legrand@daf.qld.gov.au>

Hi all,
Expressions of interest to join the new cohort of the Women in Recreational Fishing Leadership Program are now open. EOIs close on Sunday 9 July at 5pm. For more information and how to apply click on the following link: https://daf.engagementhub.com.au/wirfn-leadership . It would be great if you could please distribute this amongst your clubs as we’re looking for representatives all throughout Qld. The current group has been very SEQ heavy, so it would be great if we could get some better representation especially out west and in the freshwater space.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Christelle

Hard going downstream in area 3 between the 2 of us this morning. A bit more wind than forecast made it a bit uncomfortable in the open areas. Reckon it is going to be a bumper redclaw season when it warms up We were getting equal numbers of small redclaw in the shrimp traps. Final tally 6 bass for 6 hours on the water. Fish must be all over in the sailing club area.

Had a good day at the western arm today with Rick, Joy and their granddaughter Amelia after an iffy start. There was more wind than forecast and as we had some shrimp left from the last trip we headed into the trees on Ians island and tied up to one of our regular trees to escape the wind which dropped out to make it quite comfortable but a bit cool. The bass were hungry and we had boated 40 bass by 8am when we ran out of bait. We then did our pots for a meagre catch and headed upstream to above bass bay where we got into the bass again for a final tally of 80 bass and one tandan. Amelia was chuffed with a tally of 15 fish with the largest going 45cm. We ran out of bait around midday so we were happy with the day.

Long story. We have been missing quite a few pots from the western arm and a couple of weeks ago I was looking at another site and someone put up a post pulling one of my distinctive rectangular aluminium frame pots as well as some other distinctive round pots. I did nothing but another forum member recognised one of his pots and called him out plus reporting to fisheries and rangers. A. L got quite agro and claimed that they were his pots. Last week I got a pm telling me that some of my pots were in the eastern arm so today I went searching and found one of my pots and one of Neils with A.L s name and address on the floats. They were in only 2 feet of clear water and I could clearly see both of them. Neils name is burnt into the plastic end of the pot and mine still had a sticker with my name and address on the lead weight. There are at least another 12 pots missing so we will keep out eyes open.
After spending a few hours unsuccessfully looking around to see if I could finds any more pots I then had a bit of a fish ending up with 39 bass so a good day.
Hats off to one of the admins of the Hinze Dam fishing club site for his assistance. I even caught one of his tagged fish today.
Cheers Ray
