  1. Bit cool till the sun came out. We got around 25 on the tip of Ians island until the barred grunter forced a move so we headed upstream and checked Neal's pots that had not been looked at for a while and found a few high and dry on the bank and others difficult to get to due to lower water levels and spent a bit of time relocating them so it will be easier next time. Not many shrimp in the ones still in the water as it has been over a month since they have been checked. Tried a few spots in amongst the trees and could only find a few bass so we went back to Ians island and increased the tally to 45 bass and a few barred grunter for the eagle.
  2. Rick and I went to NPD this morning total of Ricks 2 best bass went 63 cm and the total on my best 2 went 62cm. 12 bass each . Of my 12bass 4 were between 30 and 32cm. Rest between 22cm and 28cm. All tagged and released. Cheers Ray.
  3. Hard work today as I have lost all my spotlocks on my sounder so spent lot of time searching. We picked up 18 bass fairly quickly on the drop off opposite the end of Koala straight but most were under 30cm so we went exploring and could only find more unders or just overs Best fish caught by Hai that was well over 40 at the tip of the island. Final tally was 35 bass and one tandanus. I caught a recently tagged bass that was not in the suntag database. I had to stop tagging when the rain set in and wet everything.
  4. been making the rectangular ones for a while now. Sprung a prick on the hinze dam site who was stupid enough to post a photo of him using one and one of ricks round ones and claimed they were his. Bit of drama and fisheries involved.
  5. Could not find any size in the western arm today. Plenty of under 30's but could not locate any size ones. Finished up with 28 bass all tagged and released best bass went 35cm Shrimp pots were difficult to get to as it has been over a month since last there and dam has dropped significantly.
  6. just seeing if i can post Dino having problems I told him to contact elicat.
  7. The pontoon at the boat ramp at colmsie ( May be sign that says no castnetting) and luggage point outlet usually reliable.
  8. catch a few hundred bass at NPD and depressed because I could not skite about it/
  9. Went to NPD this morning with Stew and Hai. After doing our shrimp pots we tried at he end of Koala straight where there was a school of bass on Thursday and only boated 2 bass so we headed downstream. Hai said he would like to catch a yella and even after being told the the yella whisperer Joy was not on board he insisted so we headed to the spot and hit the jackpot.( See the sounder shots at aprox 1 hour intervals ) oneshot also gives the gps coordinates. Knocked off at 11 am with a tally of 174 bass and one forky. Luckily we knocked off when we did as the wind really got up. Sadly no yellas so Hai deemed the trip a failure. There was a few stumpies mixed in the school.
  10. Only drove most of the length of the Hornibrook then found jack would not lift the weight of trailer luckily a good samara tin came to my aide. He also learnt something with child restraint seats fitted he cannot access tools and spare wheel.
  11. Had to work a bit harder today as the big school has moved. We picked up a quick 20 opposite the end of koala straight which was a pleasant surprise. Only a couple of spangled perch and forkies on the floats and the previous spot was bare as a babys bottom. We found another school over towards the fad where Joy was happy to pull a couple of yellas before the school dispersed with the counter showing 60 fish. Nothing between the islands but we found another school just off the island where we boated 38 fish in just under an hour, Finished up with 2 spanglies, 2 tandans, 8 forkies,2 yellas one of which accompanied Rick and Joy home and 98 bass for a midday knock off back at the ramp.
  12. +1 for John Crawford marine very ethical and all boats are thoroughly checked out before they accept them for sale.
  13. Just a slight sprinkle . Never too cold or hot or wet to fish. Our shrimp traps are doing very well in around 10 feet of water off the edge of weed beds averaging 15 to 40 shrimp per trap for a 3 night soak.
  14. 123 bass 2 forkies all on shrimp.

We launched at 6am and checked shrimp traps and commenced searching for some bass. Pretty barren first off with the odd bass and forky as we headed downstream. We found fad number 2 up on the bank and recovered it so it could be repaired and relocated. The ring on the bottom had completed rusted away so it may be a good idea to check the other fads. I noted that the fad was missing a couple of weeks ago and am surprised that it was not found previously. Around 9 oclock we found a school that was quite productive and we finished up with a tally of 108 bass and 8 forkys and back at the ramp by midday where we left the fad and a bunch of emptys that would not fit in the recycle bin. Not many photos as we were too busy catching fish. Tally would have been a lot higher but we were tagging which takes up a fair bit of time. There was quite a few fish undersize and looking at my tag records aprox 70% of the bass were over 30cm with the largest 46cm.
  18. Pretty good day today on live shrimp apart from the barred grunter. Good company, great feed thanks to Tai and Mark who gave up fishing time to knock up a feed , plenty of laughs and bonus of 49 bass and one tandanus. It was amusing watching Tai catching 40cm bass on his little 2 ft $7 Ali express rod. Very disappointing to hear that a fellow fisher had his car vandalised in the trailer parking area today.
  19. Knitting needles are what old blokes call them.
  20. Western arm again this morning with Rick and Joy. Bit brisk until the sneaky westerly dropped off around 9am. We are still having problems doing the shrimp traps with the falling water levels getting hung up on submerged logs. The fish were not plentiful but a good size up to 45cm. We ended up with a tally of 34 bass and the eagle had a good feed of banded grunter, Hope the water cools quickly and slows down the grunter
  21. Started off looking a bit grim with wind and rain when I left home at 4.15 but I had faith in BOM and it turned out to be a cracker of a day after 9 am when the sun came out and it started to warm up a bit. Bass were elusive at first with us only boating 10 bass and 18 forkies by 10am. I started to slowly move around the main basin and pulling up on any shows on the sounder only to discover more forkies until we struck gold over towards the original far marker. Between 10 am and midday when we knocked off we boated 73 bass from the one school. See fad 5 has re emerged but the one opposite the fig tree seems to be gone. If you study the photos a couple of clues to location but who knows how long the school will hold there. Hai was timing how long it took to catch a fish. 26 seconds on the video between the bait hitting the water and boating the bass. 343472611_6129764827115123_8940452003882799548_n.mp4
  22. Until I was 14 it was my job to get up, light the wood stove and milk the cow. Never had powdered milk and when we got rid of the cow due to urbanisation never drank straight milk again.

    wet hinze

Had a good day at the western arm despite some rain. I can report that my rain jacket did a fantastic job of absorbing every drop that fell on it. Will have to proof it when it dries out. Had a few heavy showers and a nice rainbow but no pot of gold. There were plenty of small bass at first until we found some better quality bass between 38 and 45 cm. Watched a toga trying to catch what looked like a small barred grunter with both fish leaping out of the water about 6 times before the toga finally caught the fish mid leap. Finished up with over 50 bass and donated a good feed of barred grunter to the eagle
