Good on you for trying to organise anyway Brian.
ive got it in my head to organise a kayak social in the future. Just a one day thing followed by a bbq as I know a lot of folk on here have kayaks.

That's ok, hopefully another time will suit a few guys.
Not everyone has a 4wd drive so I doubt you would ever get as many as the fishing socials anyway.

That's a bit sad to hear Brian the dates didn't line up with all that were interested.

Executive decision 2
Cancelling the trip on 9/2/18 -11/2/18 as there is only 1semi-confirmed attendee.
Opening the floor for an alternate time and place. I think there needs to be a minimum of 6 to be anywhere near worthwhile.
If you have any interest at all please let me know by posting proposed/preferred dates and proposed/preferred place.
Maybe even just a 1 day meet & greet would be good ?

Thanks for the effort in trying to get a date to work Brian, much appreciated. I'll take a closer look at our (rapidly disappearing) free weekends this weekend and report back.
Your other idea about a one day meet & greet would also be great, and might be easier for many to attend (I still think we will probably make a whole weekend work, we'll just need to all chip in dates and find a best fit). I haven't been on the beach at Bribie but given it's location, I'd imagine it would probably be a good fit for a one day meet & greet. We could cook some snags, have a beers, fish for whiting/dart and depending on who was coming and their level of experience at beach driving, a couple of 'experts' could maybe run through the basics of getting out of bogs, etc.

Good try. It was surprising that so many people (including me) couldn't make it. Perhaps a few months out?

If you fish surface or even mid-water you will avoid the catties, even keeping your bait 1 metre from the bottom will help.

This is for ALL members, new or not so new.
A few of us discussed in @Doyley's "New Tow Rig" thread about having a get together somewhere on the beach.
I'm proposing the weekend of Friday 16th - Sunday 18th February as dates when we have high tides around 8.30 - 9.30am at Cooloola/Teewah.
EDIT 29/1/18 Settled at Teewah 9/2/18 - 11/2/18
EDIT 1/2/18 Cancelled
Alternative place of Bribie Island has high tides 1.30 - 2.30pm.
It would be good if you could indicate your location preference and any alternate dates. Once we've thrashed it out and settled on a place and time we can organize the finer details.

Hmmm... tides are better this weekend for a leave work and head up kind of arrangement. I think I’m a goer, will just have to confirm no other commitments!

I've made an executive decision.
We'll make it at Teewah, Friday 9/2/18 to Sunday 11/2/18.
Tides at Teewah are as follows :-
Fri 9 Feb
3:43 am 1.59m
3:20 pm 1.37m
Sat 10 Feb
4:47 am 1.67m
4:29 pm 1.38m
Sun 11 Feb
5:38 am 1.76m
5:28 pm 1.42m
That should make travel times pretty easy going on hard sand unless you're traveling at dawn.
I'll travel up on the Friday and select a decent sized camp, then use my Navara (Opal blue) as the beacon.
I'll supply a two-burner stove and gas, 50litres of fresh water, some firewood, a couple of lanterns, some other things I can't yet think of.
Apologies to Julian, Beau and Lance for the date change, I hope you can still make it.

Yes, but it gets patchy the further north you go.

White spot disease surveillance
Biosecurity Queensland will conduct the next round of surveillance sampling for white spot disease between late February and June 2018. Sampling will be conducted in Moreton Bay and in key locations along the east coast of Queensland north to Cairns. More details on surveillance conducted to date are available on the white spot disease surveillance webpage. https://www.daf.qld.gov.au/animal-industries/animal-health-and-diseases/a-z-list/white-spot-disease/white-spot-surveillance
White spot disease community engagement
Biosecurity Queensland community engagement staff have spoken with recreational fishers at boat ramps throughout South East Queensland over the last few months. Our two engagement officers have also visited popular fishing spots to answer questions related to white spot disease. Below is a collated list of the frequently asked questions (FAQs).
The top five FAQs are:
Q1: Is it safe to eat prawns with white spot disease?
A: Yes. White spot disease does not pose any human health or food safety concerns.
Q2: What is the exact area that movement restrictions apply?
A: The restricted area extends from Caloundra to the NSW border following a line 100 metres off the eastern coasts of Bribie, Moreton and Stradbroke Islands. It also extends west to encompass the western borders of Gold Coast City Council, Brisbane City Council and Moreton Bay Regional Council.
Q3: What animals do the movement restrictions apply to?
A: The movement restrictions apply to decapod crustaceans, such as prawns and yabbies and polychaete worms. However, an exemption applies to high value species that are caught and sold for the sole purpose of being eaten. This includes: spanner crabs, three spotted crabs, blue swimmer crabs, mud crabs, red champagne lobsters, slipper lobsters, tropical rock lobsters and bugs.
Q4: How long will the movement restrictions be in place for?
A: The movement restrictions will be in place for a minimum of two years from July 2017, providing future testing for white spot disease returns negative results. If we receive positive results in the future then this timeframe will be extended.
Q5: What is Biosecurity Queensland doing to stop the disease?
The White Spot Disease Program is focused on continued surveillance and prevention and control activities within the restricted area with the aim of eradicating white spot disease in Queensland and returning Australia to a white spot disease-free status.
All infected prawn farms in the Logan River region have been disinfected and are now laying fallow until 31 May 2018 to ensure the virus that causes the disease is no longer present.
Movement restrictions are in place to reduce the likelihood of the virus spreading through human assistance. Fishing restrictions are also in place in high-risk areas around prawn farms.
