The beard is gone mate I look 12 now ! 

As promised I took the nephew out for a fish today. Having lived almost all his life in cairns he had never seen a bass before so I decided to change all that for him. Launching the boat at a leisurely 9am it was off down the dam in search of some schools that have been playing hide and go seek lately, With bugger all shrimp in the pots (they were left for a week) we had enough for me to be confident we weren’t going home empty handed. Located a decent school near the fig tree and soon had him high-fiving me after getting his first. Fishing was pretty slow the rest of the day as me moved about a little bit looking for some more active fish as they sat there with lockjaw. With 19 fish coming over the side 15 for him and 4 for me he was over moon to say the least. Looks like I’ll have to start sneaking out there without him as he reckons he’s coming every trip now ! Taking the Nephew out tomorrow for his first bass session, I got him his first fish on a lure on Tuesday a lovely 58cm flatty so i should have something to report tomorrow 😉

I love nothing more than getting people onto there first fish and especially lures, trouble is hes 24 and 120kg still a kid to me though

haha fair enough. I got the wrong impression. Still great to do that well done.

Neighbor decided he had a good time last week and wanted to go again. Because I am a good bloke😉 I decided to take him. We pulled up at the first spot and I managed 2 and then they wouldnt touch a thing, although they were still under the boat. We then set off in search of fish that might be interested and managed to find a small school that was hungry.All up we got 42 bass so neighbor Bruce was happy.

Can't help you too much mate. I'm a land based angler (by choice) and with almost all of the accessible areas banned from fishing in the inlet, I never go there anymore. I concentrate on the warm months salmon and barra on the beach now. 
All I can suggest; forget buying bait and throwing lures at inlet fish that see lures every day. Live bait is the key so get a castnet and fish live bait anywhere and you'll get fish. Use a long leader with lively baits and in the inlet you'll always get a good fingermark or something. Lightest or no lead and most natural presentation is the key - the livie will get smashed.
Other option without castnet; find a nice spot next to snags and burley heavily - plenty of big bream in the inlet this time of year and jacks, cod etc will be attracted too, but there seems to be a lot of bull sharks around this year that have been making my burley trails in the Barron a waste of time.
Last option; if the SE wind dies there will be heaps of doggie mackeral around the leads to the inlet. 
 
  

Done my good deed and took the neighbor fishing yesterday.More accident prone than me, I had to keep a close eye on him. There was a chill in the air, but didnt feel that cold and turned out to be a nice morning. We were on one fish each up till 9 am, as most time spent showing Bruce around. Finally found a school and settled in for the next couple of hours and managed 34 bass. Bruce was very happy with his first trip out for over a year and his wife was even happier as Bruce never leaves the house.
Spent the night before at the hospital, got cyaticker ( spelling ) in right foot at 8pm,in waiting room 10pm till 11.20 pm,in bed till 2.30 am, given nothing for pain except a script. Managed an hour of broken sleep before keeping my word to take Bruce fishing.Slept like a log last night.😑

Well that was pretty good. While not fun..... I got out yesterday and the pathology came back today and its a great report. All gone. All out. yay. 
So you will all have to put up with me for a bit longer I'm afraid. Gonna be a few weeks before I can wet a line but not forever.

Don’t you love it when a plan comes together ! Have been avoiding npd the last week as I dont fish weekends and the wind  hasn’t been favourable and with willy weather predicting it would drop off today I held off launching the boat till about 10ish. Wasnt too bad at my place when I left but getting to the ramp it was a solid westerly making me wish I had bought along another jumper, bumping into a few of the regulars it was as expected slow fishing up our end and I would have to go looking for them down the far reaches of our boundary , being a quick trip down with the wind behind my back I spotted a wise old fisherman the npd king. Doing the polite thing I dropped in to say a quick gday and a chin wag luckily I did as it saved me a lot time going to look for the fish else where on the dam, he was even good enough to gift me his spot as he was leaving  Talk about being spoon fed !Long story short it was a glass our day just as willy weather predicted and the fishing was pretty good too! 31 fish landed  29 bass and 2 yellas some pics to look at. Get out there and do it while you can.

I took my balaclava out with me recently. When I opened it up it was half eaten. Seems the sneaky wife is on the dog's side and folded it so I wouldn't notice.
