    Hi Team,

Looking for some recommendations..... What would you book if you wanted to get out for a day or two on the East coast of Australia and into some Marlin? All the gear and no idea kind of charter? Will try book well in advance, likely 2024.

Not looking for any crazy 1500lb Blacks. Just trying to get some clients their 1st Marlin on a nice boat somewhere.
I've had a look through a bunch of sites, but you know, the best ones are always recommendations and not Google Adds.

Anyone know of a nice boat, good for 5 people for 1-3 days with a solid crew? Marketing has given me a pretty decent budget 😁
Worst case will have some fun catching bait fish.

    Cheers.

Aldi has a boating and fishing sale next Saturday (4 Nov). If you need a new life jacket, I can recommend the $49.99 jackets they are advertising. I bought one a couple of years ago and the quality is just as good as my Burkes.

Hopefully it won't affect the charter boats too much, I have two fishing trips and a sailing trip booked from Port Douglas and they are all large sized boats.

Road trip should be OK Ed, but with the windy weather we've been having I can't see any good boating weather. Might get some in the mornings but you'd won't to be on the lookout all the time. It seems to just come out of nowhere and around 30k's and then die off, then starts again. Can only remember one other year like this was in 2006, blew most of the year.

I hope you are wrong as well Angry31, heading up north with the missus on Thursday on a road trip, so hopefully it will fizzle out or stay away from the coast. Staying at Airlie Beach for a week, so will wait and see what it's doing before we decide if we will keep going up to Port Douglas.

That'd be too simple, you need it to sound technical.

Yep.... that's how it's done... Substitute snapper for stingrays and it's just like my last trip....

I'm with you. Nothing wrong with pounds and ounces. I don't even like it when jigheads are described in grams. haha

Am I the only stupid old b@st@Rd that finds the PE thing confusing? Every time it comes up I go away and read up on it and end up needing a Bex and a good lie down. Fishing is a simple sport - why do we have to make it seem so technical?
Oh, and good luck with your new gear @mzaakir  I hope it all works well for you.

Soft plastic fishing is all about technique above location above time.
Rule 1. Fish with a sag in your line between the rod tip and the water....try and maintain a constant sag and watch the sag for bites..   ..   ...fish rarely chase up and open their mouth on a plastic...they pause slightly behind it and inhale it...   ..  ...the sag lets the plastic be inhaled.
Rule 2. Use a jighead the correct weight to get the plastic to the bottom in the depth and current. You do not want it to sink like a rock, you need it to swim down.
Where possible position yourself so you either drift towards your lure or the current brings your lure to you....current or drag make the baits look very un-natural.
Pelagic fish are an exception, they often hunt into the current and into the wind plus they charge and swallow the baits.
After decades of plastics fishing with very good success I am finding myself using less flurocarbon leaders these days.....if the water looks green or dirty I use Schnieder Kleer Line monofilament as my leader....if the water is clear or blue I use flurocarbon. Mono is far better in the snags and pilons than FC.....even though they market it as being superior...that part is bullshit.
Colours catch YOUR eye more than the fish. The fish feed on natural colour things...some almost impossible to see in the water.....your bait's should look like what they eat. Some of my best snapper baits are either the colour of the water or clear.  Any other colour on the shops walls that attract your eye.
Plastics can be worked through a patch of water for a long time and then the fish decide to eat.....if you think they are there keep persisting in the area....if you think that have moved then ask yourself why you are still there.
Before you cast your line ask yourself why a fish would be there at that time.....it might save you a lot of dud casts.

What lures have you been using at Hayes? I or my mates normally catch something when we go fishing with small paddletails or grubs.

Try Scarborough Beach from Cnr of Landsborough Ave and Kennedy Esplanade. There's a rock bar on the southern end - try for bream with a 1/6 to 1/4 jighead with a 2  or 3 inch plastic. Try the beach from there to northwards with a 1/4 to 3/8 jighead with a 3 to 4 inch paddletail plastic for flathead. ZMan in Opening Night is my favourite for flatties.
I haven't fished there for 10 years+, but it doesn't get much pressure, so should still produce. Take care - I've got a couple of stonefish there.

Glad you didn’t end up creating a new reef in the river. Bilge pumps can only do so much. Ray has the right idea with 2 in his tub. I got caught in a cloudburst once that was so heavy that the bilge couldn’t keep up and I was bailing like crazy to keep up. Visibility was zero. Lucky it didn’t last long.
BTW, keep looking for fish in the river. There are plenty there, just not always hungry. Mate and I pulled 7 decent snapper on Friday and could have caught the bag limit if the northerly didn’t get up earlier than forecast. Got a nice feed of crabs as well. You will work it out soon.
