  1. Thanks Brian, and not really, maybe four or five others when we started from Clara Rock area to the end of the wharfs, saw a couple of guys heading over to Moreton at the servo so maybe most people were out in the bay because POB ramp was decently busy.
  2. Hi all, I've been out for two sessions at my local park recently. One was a couple of weeks ago and very unsuccessful, as the only thing I caught in the net was a catfish and there were many logs drifting by making fishing difficult. The second was on low tide one Friday arvo where I got enough prawns to have a cast and a couple of small catfish. Both were pretty disappointing sessions, but it was better than not going fishing. Quick Stats: Tide: Varied, low and rising. Fish Caught: Nothing good Bait Used: Prawns The next session was last night/this morning with Thorbjorn on his tinny. We launched at POB boat ramp with a rather calm river awaiting us. After going through Boat Passage, it wasn't long before we managed to get a good amount of herring and mullet at Luggage Point. Following that, we went to the first fishing spot of the night, where Thorbjorn had some good success on snapper the night before, and dropped our lines down. The bites were a bit quiet at first, but just as I was about to cook my dinner my rod had a few taps. Sure enough I was on, and pulled in a small but legal snapper that was kept for dinner. Snap The bites stayed quiet here though, so we moved spots after an hour or so more of fishing and sporadic rain. It wasn't long before Thorbjorn had a good run at the next spot, but unluckily it didn't hook up. We sent baits back down, and after a decently long wait Thorbs was on again. This time the fish was hooked, and after a few nice runs and big headshakes we had a solid jewie on the boat (about 85cm I think). After a quick pic we vented and released the jewie, which eventually kicked off strongly. Jewfish After this, we were hopeful of some more action and the fishing didn't disappoint, with Thorbs pulling in a nice 45cm or so snap on a livie that was also kept. Snap A catty later Thorbjorn had some jewie looking nibbles on his rod before hooking up to a very good fish. It was taking some pretty fast runs and plenty of headshakes, but before we could see it, the hook came out. We were both pretty disappointed about this but sent some baits down and continued fishing until after midnight. We finished up when we ran out of livies and because I sadly have a couple exams I needed to study for today that are in coming weeks. Thanks again for taking me out @Thorbjorn Hale it was a fun night, here are the stats of the trip for anyone interested: Stats of Trip: Tide: 6:50PM, 2.1M, High, 1:00AM, .6M, Low. Moon Phase: 23% Air Pressure: 1013 Humidity: 88% Bait Used: Live herring and mullet Fish Caught: Jewie x 1, snapper x 2, catfish x 1 Overall Success Rate: 100%, some nice fish landed. Thanks for reading the report, Cheers Hamish.
  3. I used to cast excessively heavy baits with light rods but one day I completely forgot how heavy my bait was, and how light my rod was, and the next thing I had snapped my rod at the butt when I went for a big cast. So be careful doing that.
  4. Good stuff Rebel, glad you're catching some at the moment.
  5. Some great photos there Ray, good stuff.
  6. I’ll be interested to hear it. I’m going to guess seven years.
  7. I find there’s lots of flathead in the Brisbane River in winter months but I think this coincides with breeding.
  8. Good stuff Ray, sounds like an excellent session. Shame the pie shop was closed.
  9. Sounds like you did quite well considering the crowds @mangajack, good stuff.
  10. Good report @mangajack, sorry to hear about the loss of your favorite rod, at least you still got a few bites.
  11. At least you got some fish for all the effort you put in Andrew.
  12. Thanks Steve. Thanks @Huxstang, sounds like a quiet day but livescoping would still be very fun! Thanks Neil. No worries manga, sounds like your session was still pretty successful, have you ever tried upstream of the city in the river?
  13. Welcome to the forum. I would recommend Penn Prevails as I have a couple of mates who have them and they rate them highly, the 9’6 is supposed to cast very well with heavier lures.
  14. Thank you Brian, and somehow I completely forgot about the comp in the moment, I specifically tried to remember it that morning Cheers Rebel.
  15. Hi all, I was on a holiday down in Victoria for a week (went for one fish for trout but no luck) and got back last Thursday around midnight. Decided to have a rest on Friday but Saturday morning @Cavvy and I tried a spot on our kayak. We launched at about 5am and arrived at the spot by quarter past, just before the sun rose. We spent the next four hours flicking some shallow diving hardbodies around but unfortunately, we did not catch any threadfin. There was plenty of bait jumping but I guess the fish weren't hungry, so we will have to get them next time. Stats of Trip: Tide: 9:30AM, .6M, Low. Moon Phase: 25% Lures Used: Zerek Pyra and Megabass Oneten R Air Pressure: 1015 Humidity: 83% Overall Success Rate: 30% - first session on the river this holidays The next session was today with @Thorbjorn Hale at The Port, on Thorbjorn's tinny. We launched at around 9am from a very crowded POB boat ramp, and after we got away first thing on the agenda was catching some livies. It wasn't long before we had a fair few mullets gathered so we went out to the wharves and started fishing. It was awesome weather, and it was quite flat for as far as I could see. On my first cast my live mullet remained untouched for a fair amount of time before line started screaming off of my reel. Thorbjorn picked up my rod while I wound in my soft vibe and the fish took a good run. I started the fight and the fish was taking some decent runs and had some good headshakes. It wasn't long before I had a nice 60cm or so snapper on the deck of the boat, which we were both happy with (and I was regretting not buying some ice for the esky). After a quick photo we released the snapper and got lines back out. Snap Following this, we each caught a decent sized stingray, but after that the bite went very quiet, so we decided to go and chase some livies at the Poo Chute and try again. We were successful with the herring (despite my substandard cast netting), but back at the spot we couldn't lose a bait, apart from Thorbjorn catching a small shovelly. We moved again, and at this spot we each pulled in a catty, which wasn't a great sign. As we were moving though, we noticed a boat was hooked up to a decent fish. We waited until we saw it, and sure enough the gold of a thready emerged, so it was good to see someone was having some success on the soft vibes. We chased a bit more live bait which was fun and had a quick rest before anchoring on the edge of the main channel around the Clara Rock area. Unfortunately for us, this didn't equate to any fish, and the only action was a few nibbles and plenty of waves from the Moreton Island boats. At about five, we decided to call it quits and we drove home. Overall, it was a great day with the weather staying flat for basically the entire day, thanks again for taking me out Thorbjorn! Stats of Trip: Tide: 8:15AM, .9M, Low, 1:35Pm, 1.6M, High, 7:15PM, .8M, Low. Moon Phase: 35% Bait Used/Caught: Live mullet, herring, whiting, prawn, silver biddy, anchovy Fish Caught: Snapper, catfish, shovelnose, stingray Lures Used: Soft vibes Air Pressure: 1015-1017 Humidity: 64%-81% Overall Success Rate: 75% - fun day out with a few bites and a new PB snap for me. Anyway, thanks for reading everyone, hope you enjoyed the report. Cheers, Hamish.
  16. Good work Ray, sounds like a good bit of variety.
  17. Looks like a great rod Peter, I would recommend the 1000 or 2000 reel.
  18. Hope next week is better Rebel and that you can get back to the fishing soon.
