Must be an IT guy thing (I'm also IT Project delivery) and also had to get my boat kitted out with all the latest gadgets and electronics when i got my boat (DIY of course)
When are you going to get Sonar on your boat and then open it up to auto pilot hahaha (not because you need it but because its a tech gadget 🙂
Getting the sounders dialled in and settings to what you want is as you say time on the water.
I always thought livescope was more for your fresh water fishing (all the US Bass guys run it) In salt water and deeper water does it come in handy.
I've seen vision of livescope for the guys that go prawning. Now that's a sight seeing the prawns and cast net live.

For sure he will be back, he lives for fishing but doesn't do it enough.
He seems to live on frustration with barra and jacks his main obsession in SEQ....

Interestingly, or strangely, the water was brown for the last of the incoming and the top of the tide at Macleay this morning. When the tide started to head out, the water cleared up. Weird.
Bugger about the jew. Will the gifted snapper be sufficient enticement to get the decky back for more ? haha

Nice work, that still sounds like a pretty good session @mangajack, you can't be too unhappy with a 55 squire 🙂.
Was the water still quite dirty out there?

Went back down the port this afternoon looking for more jew like last week.
Found scattered jew near where I found them last week on the run out....water was running too hard to effectively fish....went up the river for two small squire...1 about 40 the other about 55cm....the 55 came home.
Went back to the jew at the change of the tide and they were not schooling or feeding.
Ended up anchor locking over a couple of pairs of fish a few times for no result....that's fishing for you.
I gave my deckie the snapper to take home....poor bugger didnt get a single sniff today.
Nothing worthy of a photo today.

I thought I might share some of my experiences with Livescope so far.
First disclaimer - I am a tech head (even though I am almost 60).  I studied IT and have loved every bit of nerdy gadgets that has come along even though I never actually followed through and became an IT professional - just managed them for a while.

So got my new boat in September and decided that it needed all the gear - yep all the gear no idea.
But thanks to the wonders of the internet, youtube and the like I was able to do a crash course on using live sonar, what the settings were and how they affected what you saw.
Now I do not claim to be an expert but i think I am learning pretty well the more time I spend on it.
Now I have Garmin Livescope Plus (ie LVS34) - in my personal opinion they were the originators and are very heavily invested in it and at the time I made the decision were a generation infront of others.  Also I like Garmin screens….I like the menus etc and as a bay/estuary guy their transducers generally were going to suit so I didnt have to have a mixed bad of brands.
I have shared two videos so far - on in fresh water and one in saltwater.  Both in relatively shallow water however have been in as deep as 18 metres with it.  Quite a few learning there as it is best to manually adjust the depth range and as I discovered you need to push your distance range at the same time (or reduce it) to ensure you are seeing in a usable range.
Suprisingly they are quite easy to use out of the box.  Garmin have two different settings (its called focus) which are optimised for salt or fresh.  Other than that its the gain (which is the sensitivity) ie the clutter you see on screen.  Colour is personal - most like amber….same for me.
Once you see it in action its really easy to understand, you can see your lure, if its in the beam, you see fish move around and you can see the distance and depth.
Benefits I have seen so far is that you can actually see things your other sonar will not show eg big barra stalking in tight treed country.  Up under lilly banks and like today schooled fish that are easily seen in a lot of other clutter.
Like all marine electronics time on water is the key….

Yes mate.  Didnt see them on side scan at all - mind you we didnt do a major scout around.  And with downscan and the amount of crap in water at moment you really cannot tell.  So dropped the pole in and spot locked just on city side of southern pylon.  I’d say there was a solid 20 or 30 fish.  They were moving around quite a bit but staying in that @6m depth.  Current was just dropping out so plastics werent getting a lot of interest so changed over to the nemo Zerek vibe and it converted.
I recorded the fish again…just need to find a better way of sharing the livescope capture.

Had a session with the sharks today. They took more than their fair share, but we managed a feed with 3 snapper and 4 brassy trevs kept.

Snapper ban is supposed to end in 2025.
Reports from bottom of Yorke Peninsula is that whiting fishers are getting 10 snapper for every whiting.  Small fish now... but HEAPS of them.
I cant wait for the ban to end, they are my favourite target.

Check out the area around Smokey Bay.  Excellent fisjing region, BIG night skies.   30 min drive to  Ceduna

Largely depends on where I find a house and how long it takes to settle my affairs here in the USA. My first preference is a small country town somewhere on the Eyre peninsula, something that will give me easy access to the coast for fishing and recreation during the day, while leaving me the nights to pursue my other passion, astrophotography - hence the reason I want to live in a small place, well away from the likes of Port Augusta and Port Lincoln - next to no light pollution.
You kind of nailed it with the fish, as I was thinking along the lines of setting up some rods for mulloway, whiting, flathead, etc, as well as some squid. I've been away from SA for 24 years so I'm way out of touch, but I was under the impression bans had been put in place with regard to snapper? They did it here in the USA as well, putting a moratorium in place that wiped out a friend of mine who was a professional fisherman focused exclusively on snapper - he had to move to Louisiana and start all over again fishing the gulf.

@GregOug I use Sax Scent. Bloodworm or Gold Prawn. There are others. Have a look at their Website. You an but direct or they have stockists every where.
I don't put a lot on. Just lightly smear over the bait or lures. It does wear off, so you have to put more on.
    Cheers.
