If u don’t mind the name.....The “poo Shute” luggage tree point consistently holds bait for cast netting.
when we fish gateway this used to be our first stop before heading back upriver.

    G'day Joseph
    Any luck on prior missions?
If you're talking about Murrarie Recreation Hub; you'll get prawns, herring, mullet, winter whiting, etc. It's got lots of lights attracting lots of fish.
If you mean the Colmslie one, cast off the boat ramp. Lots and lots of prawns on a high tide there.
    Cheers Hamish

G'day fishos. I'm looking at going down to the Brissy river in the next couple of days targeting threadies. I will probably fish near the gateway bridge but know completely nothing about fishing threadies. I'm looking at cast netting some herring and prawns and using live bait. What are the best rigs and what size hooks and sinkers should I be looking for to use. Any other tips will also be appreciated.
    Thanks 👍

    Hey Joseph
Haha, my best Spot is the one marked with a big X.
You can get them all throughout the river from the mouth to up at Darra. There's heaps of places. Your best bet would be trying your local park or spot, and seeing if you can work it out. It was yonks before I got a Shark or Thready at my spot, but as soon as I started trying I started catching more and more.

G'day all. I'm heading out to coochiemudlo island with a mate on the weekend and am open to any tips for fishing coochie this time of year. What are going as the best baits/rigs/spots for the island. I will appreciate any thoughts. Thanks

Yep plenty of yabbies to be pumped. We fished out around the mouth/channel leading into it on Wednesday last week and my young son caught a couple of undersized squire, one of which had a gob full of prawns (we were using we castnetted at the Manly Harbour ramp). Also had a couple of small sharks cutting the boys hook off to, so if you like flake to eat, perhaps put a floating pillie out the back of your kayak (not sure how you'd go landing it though ..... ).

G'day all. I'm thinking I'll put in my kayak at the boat ramp down at lota and head out to fish the mouth. I am looking to get a feed for Christmas. What I would be targeting would be anything that's good on the table. What fish are people getting at the mouth of the creek around this time and what bait is most popular. All answers will be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks guys. Would that sort of battery be suited for marine and is it ok to get wet or would I need to get a waterproof battery box for it? And also, whats a good sounder. I was looking into getting the Lowrance hook 2 but what's a good sounder under about $150, thanks.

G'day all. I have recently bought myself a Viking espri. It's been a great yak but I would love to get a sounder for it. I know a fair bit about the sounder side of it but not about the battery. Does anyone know any good battery's for the kayak that are under $100. Thanks

    G'day Joseph
I would assume using small spinnerbaits, hard vibes, and soft plastics would get you some results. Try around the snags early morning and late afternoon. You could try for some fish on the surface, but remember the higher the sun goes the lower the fish go (making it more suitable to use a surface lure at dawn/dusk and bottom lures in midday/sun hours).
Some good spots could be around the Port of Brisbane (I've only been out there once on the yak and it could get a bit hairy so I wouldn't advise that unless it's calm), or maybe Boggy, Breakfast, Norman, and Lota Creek (where you could very well pick up a flathead, whiting, cod, or bream fishing sand flats, yabby banks, and different snags). If you ever go up or down to the GC or SC you could pick up a mangrove jack fishing around structure in the canals.
    Cheers Hamish 🙂

    Hey Joseph,
    Welcome to the forum.
Lure fishing can be pretty tough in Brisbane. There is a lot of pressure but if you keep at it you will persist.
If you are after Bass on lure @Dinodadog is your best bet. He regularly catches them, mostly in North Pine Dam. Do a search for his posts and ask questions on his posts.
If you want flatheads on lures, a great place to start is the shallow flats around Jacobs Well.
Mackerel can be caught on lures around the mouth of BNE river with fast moving slugs. Also try wellington point and to the north of there.
Jewfish and threadfin salmon can be caught around the port of Brisbane on soft vibes.
Good luck and keep at it.

Hi all, I'm looking for some tips for targeting some bass in the Bulimba creek area. I have done tonnes in the way of bait fishing but absolutely nothing in the way of lure fishing so I will need some tips for when I head out on my kayak. Also, does anyone know any good places around Brisbane to get a first fish on a lure. Thanks heaps
