  1. Thanks Sloth. That's very helpful. I was out at Poona last weekend, mate had a 4.6m aluminium boat with 50hp 4-stroke. I'd say draft was +/-35cm, we managed to get 3 hours either side of a high tide in the middle of the day, so I'd say it'll be a fair bit less in the SS64.
  2. It matters in that I'm anchoring on the sand flat in front of the house, so draft of boat will determine how much useful time I will get on either side of a high tide. The boat ramp at Poona can only be used at half tide or more, so launching the boat and taking it out after use every day isn't a solution to this problem (plus doing that would suck and be a pain in the butthole).
  3. Any progress on this project? Are you happy with how it turned out? Edit: don't worry, I just saw your other recent post with an update about this. Let us know if you make any other progress
  4. Is anybody able to give me an accurate measure of the boat's draft with motor trimmed up? I know it depends on motor, etc but yeah, just trying to plan how I'll maximise daily use of the boat at Poona, where it will be parked on a sand flat at low tide. Cheers!
  5. Thanks Rusty. I saw the stuff on Hull Truth and agree it's inconclusive. My gut feeling is not to compromise on something that I'm planning on keeping for a decade or more. The last thing I need is a decade of regret because I didn't wait a few extra months. Re: your offer of a ride in the V8, I might actually take you up on the offer. It just so happens I've got 6 weeks of long service leave coming up - originally I had planned on using the time to get to know my new boat . Anyway, I'll have some free time. Whereabouts are you located?
  6. Hi mate, looks really good. Who did the stainless steel fabrication for you?
  7. Chaps, after some advice, having received some bad news.... I've posted earlier in this thread and as I said before I've ordered the SS64 with a 200hp V8 Merc proXS. Boat was supposed to be ready by end of this month. Boat will be used for mixture of day cruising, skiing, wakeboarding, fishing, all the good stuff. Sadly, Tim from Stejcraft has now told me he can't get the V8 until December. He can however get me a V6 200hp 4-stroke. My main priority with wanting the V8 is having the ability to pull a slalom skiier out of the water with a boat full of family plus gear. I'm not at all interested in top-end speed, especially not after hearing about the chine walk etc. Do you reckon I'll miss the extra displacement if I go with the V6? Looking forward to hearing your learned opinions...
  8. Hi mate, I've also just got a spot up at Poona as well. Do you ever take the boat out to the northern parts of Fraser?
  9. Ah, that's good. The older one I went for a test ride in didn't have that
  10. Yes, the builder Tim Catanese who I'm buying from mentioned the change in driver seat position and the different storage access in the newer version. They've ironed out a lot of little niggles over the past couple of years. Has anyone noticed the hinged part of the windscreen scratching the gelcoat where it rests in the open position?
  11. Hi Sloth, I did receive your message, thought I had replied! I've decided to go with the 200 pro XS. Should be plenty. Thanks for the detailed rundown, and also to @Rusty_Nail and @GregOug for the helpful repliesreplies. I agree about the awesome layout of the stej vs the signature. As far as the hull is concerned, I guess no boat is going to be amazing at everything. I'm looking to use the boat at Poona and the Sandy Strait, so should be good enough. Have you got any fuel consumption figures at cruising speeds? Already daydreaming and planning trips lol

    The New Boat

Thanks Greg, although I meant the one on Rusty Nail's boat. I appreciate your replies, so good to hear from people who own the boat. I've just paid deposit for one with 200 proXS V8. Super excited. How do you find the black colour on a hot day?

    The New Boat

Thanks Rusty, I'm looking at getting one with the V8, mainly for extra torque for pulling out a skier with a fully loaded boat, rather than top speed (although that's nice too). And yes, I was referring to the photo at Pelican. Looks really nice.

That looks amazing mate. Where did you get the Bimini/hardtop? Are you happy with the rough water handling? I'm looking at getting one, same motor (200 proXS), for the Sandy Strait mostly, so would love to hear your thoughts. I love the layout of the boat.
  17. Mate just after some purchasing advice. Would you buy again? How does it handle the chop?
  18. I'm thinking about getting one too, how do you find it handles choppy conditions? Trying to decide between this and a signature 620 BR.
  19. How do you find this boat handles choppy water?
