V6 all wheel drive is great for towing and on maintained dirt roads but not for tracks.
That being said from the look of the road on YouTube I'd drive a Rav4 down there. I wouldn't drive much past the end of the track unless it was good conditions and I wouldn't take any risks.
Just don't flog the truck and remember it's your ticket home.
I'd definitely take a compressor, tire deflator, sand trax and a snatch strap to get you out of any trouble.

The arapima are funny, I find it best to target along the bank for them, a lot of parks don't actually like you catching arapima as they are a little delicate and a big one is worth a year's salary over there.
So they only like them to be caught occasionally, that can make rhem seem a lot harder to catch then they are. Sight casting when they rise can be very productive but you have to cast fast and accurate and guess what direction they are travelling so you can put a lure in front of them.
But if your ever heading over to Bangkok then I know a park that specialises in them and I've never not caught one there, actually the least I've ever caught there was 3 of them and they actually prefer using live bait.
As to the carp, apart from the catfish I've never really targeted the vegetarian fish,so this should be a change. I just ordered a couple of Shimano baitrunner long cast surf reels just for the bait fishing over there. Ordered a heap of gear too specifically to fish for them.
Now the wait until it arrives and I can put some rigs together.

Sounds like a brilliant day and it's great to get the kids out keen and interested in fishing.

You could do it "the Australian way..."
Mind you, there may be problems buying explosives over there.......
I could make some, but the fishing parks definitely wouldn't approve and once the thai police got involved then my stay would definitely be involuntarily increased to the maximum they would be allowed to house me for,and that definitely wouldn't be as fun as a fishing park.

Are you going to try the methods similar to what they do in the UK? Where they have a little sac full of bait off the bottom of the hook?
Pretty much, but in thailand they fill a cage with burley and have one to four hooks on anywhere from 2" to 6" of braid. Sometimes they have a bit of bait on the hook, worms, bread, corn or a bit of dough bait.
When the burley gets attention they stir the ground up and then suck in the suspended particles in the water.
But you can use a dissolving bag of burley as well, but everyone uses a cage over there.
If I can pick up a new trick that might improve my strike rate then even better. I might even use meat pellets as boilies and crush some up as burley for predators.
It just depends what the park is feeding what fish species.

Sounds like you're getting things sussed.
What are foam boilies ?
Basically little floating foam balls the size of a boilie, you soak them in scent and float the hook under them so they are off the bottom, you can even use a real boilie under them.

There definitely used to be Mary River cod, I was living right up near Ipswich back in the early 2000's and caught a couple that I thought were Murry cod but and old fella said they were Mary river cod.
But I went back after the floods and had a fish when I was living in Brisbane about 10 years later and everything looked so much different and I never caught another one.
I also caught my 3rd biggest flathead at the same spot which was in fresh water, that was just a couple of km's below the weir.
Never caught a yellow belly, bit of a shame.

I'm putting some floating and sinking pellets on order, a bunch more burley cages and some floating foam boilies.
I might get some hook springs too, make any dough bait stick on better, the same with bread.
One thing I noticed watching a few videos on fishing over there, is that the fish weren't feeding on the bait quite like I thought they did, so a little tweek and a bit of practice and I might be catching more in the future.

After being out of action for a while with some bad stress fractures to the knee I spent a bit of downtime watching monster carp.
On top of that we're booked into finally heading back to Thailand for a month's holiday so it might be a good idea to practice the same bait fishing technique they use over there, that is also very similar to how those fellas fish for carp.
So it might be a bit easier on the legs and be good practice to see if I can bag myself a 30lb carp.
So it might be time to dig out some burley cages and try some different hook set ups, I figure if it works good here, then it should work really well in a fish park.
It might even be effective in miniature for fishing for stocked trout in some ponds that I know.

The funny thing is that looks like a selection of lures/jigs for trout fishing around here.
Some of those look really good.

I'm fairly confident that at the time old mate didn't give a crap about what species the shark was.

That's definitely a nasty turn of events, not something I'd want to experience.

Nothing wrong with a few beers while fishing, a few too many is definitely a problem. When I go out for a few hours fishing on the boat with a mate there's always a 6 pack in the esky. 3 beers over 4-5 hours is plenty sensible and plenty refreshing, if you want to see irresponsible then watch the water ski crews, seen no end of them that were a, danger to themselves and others.
The key to anything like that is moderation, a little self control and not carrying on like a ******. The trouble with wankers like that mob is they encourage others to be wankers too and that soon messes things up for everyone. But if they break enough gear being morons then reality soon sets in as that's an expensive lifestyle to life.

I thought I might weigh it down, but it only sits in an inch and a half of water. I could easily fit the wife in as well.
But then it was designed for big American red neck and a large Labrador to carry a heap of duck decoys out and then spend the morning/afternoon hunting in it.
So it is surprisingly roomy and can carry a load. It's perfect for what I've been chasing for years.

On an impulse yesterday I bought myself a little sneak boat/duck boat that I happened across online.
I've been after a little aluminium canoe for a while now, mostly because I never thought I'd find something like this in Australia, so score.
I took it out for a run today and it's way more stable then the Seak Hybrid Kayak I have, no heavier and paddles pretty good. It won't win a speed contest but it's a perfect shallow water sneak boat that's comfortable to travel in, it's easy to get in and out of and will make a geat fishing and duck hunting boat.
Think it might end up with a 100ah lithium battery and a 24lb watersnake kayak motor.

Get one like you had, I've never gotten 10 years from a battery.
Although as far as AGM go the odyssey battery is the best AGM around.

They make spring loaded killers for small pigs ect that would work as a bang stick that doesn't need any licensing.
But I'm not sure how that would help me, as I like to let the big ones go.
