  1. Mark caught most of the fish using his secret fish attracting paternoster rig and Andrew copied it and also increased his catch rate
  2. Not to the same extent as bass, Cheers Ray
  3. Not a bad day at NPD this morning with Andrew,Leigh and Mark. Redclaw were scarce with only one good pot that I had baited up with a forky. Forkys were everywhere out from the fig tree so we moved down to the floats where we scored around 15 bass and one yella before the school moved on. We went exploring with nothing showing on the sounder until we found a school between the islands where it was on for young and old. Plenty of quadruple hook ups of good sized bass mainly in high 30,s and low 40,s, Mark finally cracked his 50 cm cherry with 2 bass over 50cm. We ran out of bait with a tally of 110 bass ,1 yella and one tandan, Cheers Ray
  4. The fish do hide in the weed but the weed is so thick you cannot get into it and can only fish the edges.. The weed causes major problems to SEQ water as it clog the filters.
  5. you will have to get 2 rods as 8ft rod useless in the surf This was my favorite heavy rod landed 8ft shark and 50 lb jewies in the surf https://www.outbackadventures.net.au/product/gary-howard-surf-classic-low-mount-2-piece-heavy-fishing-rod/ this is the one more suitable for walking the beach as it is a bit lighter. https://www.outbackadventures.net.au/product/gary-howard-chopper-special-12ft-low-mount-1-piece-spinning-fishing-rod/ both of these rods are specifically designed for alveys for eggbeaters and bait casters you will need a mid mount that are avail. Gary Howard rods are Australian designed by experienced aussie fishamen. I highly recommend alvey reels ( Also Australian designed and made in Brisbane)they are durable, low maintenance and are the only reel that if you drop it in the sand you can just dip it in the water and wash out. Try that with your daiwa or shimano reels. cheers ray
  6. Yes it is cabomba a very invasive weed. Seq water has provided wash down facilities to wash down your watercraft and gear. The last thing we want to happen is for cabomba to be translocated into NPD.
  7. if you get yourself a cheap yak there is excellent fishing in kurwongbah and north pine dams. bank fishing particularly t dawn and dusk near the rangers hut at npd can be productive at times. be aware that you need a sip permit to fish these locations.
  8. As an old alvey man nothing less than a 13 or 14 foot rod for the surf with an 8 foot rod you would not be able to clear the break. Cheers Ray
  9. Percy ate most of forkies balance went into composting bin with the tilapia. All other fish released. Cheers Ray
  10. WE did a bit better than sunday with only around 30 forkies that Percy enjoyed until he filled up. Quite a few small tilapia in the shrimp taps that ended up in the composting bin. Redclaw have gone off a bit so time to move the pots.Ended up with 7 yellas and 8 bass with Steve Davies catching the best bass at 45cm and I got the best yella also 45cm . Big variety in the colouring of the yellas that were all caught in the same spot. Steve managed to catch a fish with his u beaut copyrighted lure.
  11. I am currently getting 3 month course of injections in my left knee to avoid the same thing. They are not working so far next one next week.
  12. You and your dad welcome can be back at ramp by 12oclock if that will giveyou enough time cheers ray
  13. up to 3 spots avail NPD tomorrow 23/2 . 5.15 start meet at gate end of adsetts rd no smoking no bananas bait fishing for bass and should also get a feed of redclaw 0403072325
  14. My regular wednesday deckies are away feeding the mozzies in northern NSW so I did a quick solo trip this morning,Absolutely blown away with the numbers of small redclaw in the shrimp traps. The photo is the results of one shrimp trap. Luckily the bass were not adverse to partaking of a feed of redclaw. I found one school that yielded 15 bass in just over half an hour and then took another 3 hours to bring the tally up to 21. Cheers Ray
  15. It is not legal to fish within 100m upstream and 200m downstream of any dam or weir in Qld. I doubt that the people that I saw were collecting mushrooms in their buckets. Cheers Ray
  16. Had to work hard to get some fish at NPD ending up with one yella and 32 bass ,6 forkies, and a feed of redclaw. Heaps of small redclaw showing up in the shrimp traps so future redclawing looking great as dam is now at over 66%. Did not take long for the word that Kurwongbah is spilling to get out. Saw about 15 cars parked in Beeville road on the way home so gave the hotline a ring and actually got a ranger who said that they were aware of it. Cheers Ray
  17. The new alvey spin reel reviews are reading well plus you are supporting local Brisbane company
  18. kurwongbah now spilling be interesting how recent improvements affect fish that go over the wall
  19. Percy had a couple of the forkies and the others were returned to the water with a slight headache.
  20. Dam has risen at least 3 feet so reckon redclaw will explode in a few weeks time as they can now feast on all the submerged grass on the edges. Fishing was a bit hard but Steve ended up with a feed of redclaw and we boated 32 bass and 5 forkies. About 10 of the bass would have been unders or just on 30cm and the best bass just over 40cm. All fish were released. CHeers Ray
  21. Contact us via our Facebook page or bva@ffsaq.com.au The Brisbane Valley Anglers meet at the Mt Ommaney library on the first Wednesday of every month except January at 7:30pm. Club Information The Brisbane Valley Anglers Fish Stocking Association (BVAFA) was formed on the 26th of May 1988 by a group of dedicated anglers that saw a need to stock native fish species into the Brisbane River and its catchment. The original stocking committee went on to become responsible for the stocking of Wivenhoe and Somerset Dams and is now known as the Somerset & Wivenhoe Fish Stocking Association. After several years of stocking these two major storages it was decided to stock the Brisbane River below Wivenhoe Dam and the Brisbane Valley Anglers was formed in its current state. In November 1996 the Department of Primary Industries gave approval to stock native fish in to the Brisbane River between Wivenhoe Dam and the Mount Crosby Weir. Since this time Australian Bass have been stocked annually along with smaller numbers of the endangered Mary River Cod when supplies have been available. To build on the success of stocking the Brisbane River, our charter now includes the development of two new fisheries at Lake Manchester and Enoggera Reservoir. I think that their first stocking took place in 2015 or 6. From memory Brooksy tried to interest the PRFMA in stocking enoggera but they declined. Cheers Ray
  22. Enoggera is normally open but currently temp closure due to high water levels as below from SEQwater website. I have never fished there but believe it has resident population of spangled perch and has been stocked with bass by BVA but no idea of stocking density,North Pine dam and Kurwongbah both have good bass fishing with public assess areas and a boating access area in NPD. Have a look at the PRFMA website for details of the boating access scheme, Also browse the website for some great info on fishing NPD in particular but a lot of the info will apply to all dams n SEQ. Redclaw currently going ok in NPD and Wyaralong and should improve with the recent dam levels increase. Be wary of fishing advice from some of the caravan parks in the Lockyer valley they will tell you anything o encourage you to come and stay. Ones starting with M are renowned for this. Wyaralong is starting to produce some good bass and the odd MRC plus carp and tilapia.'Hinze has no redclaw to speak of but plenty of bass,a sprinkling of yellas the odd MRC and is quite a good toga fishery It is recommended that you do not eat fish from Hinze due to elevated mercury levels in the fish.
