  1. Bit wet and drizzly today and we had to work hard to find fish. We found some very promising looking shows on the sounder with what appeared to be active feeding fish but could not entice them to partake of a feed of live shrimp or to attack a blade. We just ended up sounding along the edges of drop offs and picking up a few fish here and there. On the way back to the ramp we found a few fish concentrated around Andrews drop off which increased the tally to 64 bass,1 yella and one tandan. Shrimp still scarce. Mark caught the most fish including a couple of 50s one of which was blind in one eye possibly as the result of a treble.
  2. be highly illegal if it does not already have brakes. Also trailer over 750kg capacity has to have a roadworthy to transfer rego. Cost will depend on what braking system you wish. Mechanical override ( Cheapest) hydraulic and electric. Axles will have to be modified or replaced to support backing plates. I would assume disc brakes. here are different types just cast iron ,galvanized, stainless hubs. You have to be meticulous in washing down after use. Would suggest contacting Aussie 123 if you need advice and parts.
  3. Bit hard to leave the fire at 4,30 his morning, Found a school just outside the ramp bay first thing and pulled 20 odd good size bass before they moved on. We struggled to add another 13 bass and 2 tandans for the rest of the morning. Trip before last we had to move the shrimp pots out from the edge of the weed beds due to dropping water levels and we only got a few shrimp from each pot so looks like we will have to try a different location in future, Best bass went to Rick at 47.5 cm. Saw a bloke fishing from the shore who must have got lost
  4. Extremely slow day today. The shrimp traps were chockers we only did 8 pots and reckon we brought close to 200 shrimp home. Fish were hard to locate and when we found a decent school in 45 feet of water near fad 2 they only hung around for half an hour before moving on. Finished up with 31 bass,1 yella and 2 tandans
  5. The lights are normally encapsulated . Still white wire and terminal number 3 for earth. Can you get to where the cable from the plug joins to the wires coming out of the lights. Check the joint first for breakage or corrosion, If the cable is fairly old it may be corroded internally. Fairly common for water to ingress the earth wire and turn it black and the wire eventually goes brittle and breaks. Check for continuity between the terminal number 3 and the other end of white wire. If you want to bring boat to redland bay i can run a meter over it for you not on wednesday or sunday as they are fishing days. 0403072325
  6. IF it is via ebay you are ok different story if you have purchased directly then the seller has to make a claim on his carrier ( providing he has insurance) and if seller is an a/hole you have to wait till seller gets insurance back.
  7. a trophy bass is over 50cm the best one went 52,5 I could not crack one my best just under even squeezing the tail to stretch it.
  8. is it a flat or round plug/ If round 5 or 7pin if round usually earth problem if 7 pin earth should be whitewire on pin 3. if 5 pin still white wire on pin 3 90% of problems normally white wire undone in plug or faulty at first point at tail light.
  9. Same fish 2 photos the with nose hard up to end board one squeezed tail other tail in natural position.
  10. Once again had to work for some fish in NPD with some scattered and 3 good schools found one opposite end of Koala straight, one start of second rock wall, one andrews drop off. we left them biting when it started to rain. No pot of gold under rainbow but pile of fish 102 bass 3 tagged, 4 trophy best 102.5) 3 yellas best 56cm 2 tandans All caught on live shrimp. My rain jacket kept the top part of me dry and waterproof pants did excellent job of keeping water from exiting. Few deer about again
  11. Fishing the surface low light conditions best. Same for casting to the bank/weeds as soon as the sun hits the water the fish go deep. Bait fishing in more than 15 feet of water they bite all day . Trolling and jigging all day in deeper water. Mainly just following your sounder.
  12. I use a saucepan for a pee pot' Doubles as a bailer and to get water for bait tank. Also for pea and ham soup on a cold day Run a small 12 to 240v inverter to power an aquarium air pump for my live shrimp tanks. Run 2 bilge pumps one in stern and one in bow. At rest my boat sits bow down a bit and it is surprising how much water comes from a heavy squall. Bit of ally angle with different sized holes to keep pliers, lip grips etc handy. Ally tube riveted to ribs and bit of rod with cord attached to us a tether to keep fish live. Ally rhs screwed to battery box to use as rod holders when traveling and to keep landing nets handy when fishing ( Long length used to stop end of net handle catching when needed in a hurry.. If its cheap and ugly I either have it or tried it. Unlike some people who like to keep their boat pristine I think the more holes and various bits attached here and there the more character your hull has.
  13. Foggy and cool start at NPD yesterday morning .The bass had moved on from one of our usual spots taking an hour and a half to raise 20 bass along the length of koala straight. We then did the shrimp traps ad moved downstream to Andrews drop off where the bass were more prolific but still slow and by 11 am we only had 60 on the counter so we headed towards fad number 2 and saw a good show on the counter where the fish were sitting on a 3 foot high hump in 40 feet of water. We brought the tally up to 165 with some very good sized bass plus 3 X 50cm plus forkies. 4 tagged bass We all caught a trophy bass and thought that Anthony was going to have a heart attack when he cracked his 50 barrier, I even checked to see if he had wet himself.
  14. Think that there is a well advanced proposal to make Moreton Bay a net free zone but if it similar to the northern ones prawn trawling will still be allowed. The northern zones have made a significant improvement to the recreational fishery.
  15. Big difference between the bay trawlers and the Brisbane River Beam trawlers. The river trawlers are very few compared to 60 years ago when there used to be probably 50 to 60 trawlers mainly targeting greasys. I doubt that there would till be half a dozen left. I would be interested in what species are affected by the trawlers. Fisheries would already have this data as all commercial fishers are heavily regulated even to the extent of fisheries staff going out and observing the commercial fishers at work.
  16. Back to NPD yesterday. When we arrived at the gate at 5.30 there was no wind but still cold. By 6 am when we entered the westerly was blowing strongly but being tough or stupid we proceeded to launch. There were only a few fish showing on the sounder but they soon came on the chew when presented with some live shrimp. They started off at 18 feet before moving on but as soon as we went to 26 feet on the edge of the drop off they were back on the chew. We ended up with 60 odd bass from there. After doing our shrimp pots ( We used left over shrimp from previous trip on sunday for first spot) we proceeded to Andrews drop off and boated another 40 odd bass before they went off the chew . As it was only around 11 am we had a vote whether we would have an early finish or have a go over near fad number 2 and fad won by an unanimous vote. Initially once again nothing much showing on the sounder and they were all down deep and forkies were suspected. We were partly correct but the majority of the fish were bass and Rick was disappointed that he was the only one not to catch a 50+ forky. Final tally was 5 forkies,1 plate sized yella ( Only fish we took home)188 bass. 2 bass over 50cm ( one at 51 and Joys at 52.5) and 4 over 49. Five tagged fish. Not quite as good as Sundays effort but still a good day. By the time we left the wind had dropped off to glass out but picked up a little on the way back to the ramp. Spotted a couple of herds of deer on the way back. On sunday we saw a couple of rubs but no sign of the deer. Cheers Ray
