  1. Went to NPD this morning and left the thermos at home so no coffee from 4am till 3pm. Reduced to drinking dam water. I had a gas stove in the bow but when I tried to use it there was no spark to ignite the gas. Good thing that the fish were on the chew so I did not have time to go into the DTS. First up we tried 2 spots for only one fish. Next spot we tried was andrews drop off which only showed a couple of fish on the sounder but they soon came around when we dropped some live shrimp down. We ended up with 91 bass with Stews forkie the catch of the day. It was too big for both percy and the eagles. The eagles will get it when it drifts to the shore. Stew started off using 2 rods but soon resorted to one after getting a few tangles trying to manage 2 40cm bass at once . The sounder shot is what we left when we knocked off at midday. Cheers Ray
  2. All on shrimp not bothering with red claw . Cheers Ray
  3. It was only unlucky for the fish. Went to NPD with Rick this morning starting off a bit bleak but it soon got better as the fish started to bite. around 30 bass and a couple of yellas at first spot opposite the end of koala straight. Next spot in 20 feet of water on the flats near Andrews drop off. We then went to old reliable spot in 50 feet of water near fad 1, There was a couple already sitting there and they told us only a couple of bass but plenty of forkies. The sounder was showing fish between 25 feet and the bottom. As per normal the bass were at 25 feet with the forkies on the bottom so we then proceeded to get into them. Knocked off at 11am with 75 bass,2 yellas and only 2 forkies on the tally card. Rick scored the 2 yellas which made him smile but he did not smile when he caught the only forkies for the day. Cheers Ray
  4. Sensodine tooth paste for the bass spike . Hot water for forkies. Hope you never need it, Cheers Ray
  5. When I was younger we used to target the river perch every April ( From Memory) Always a sunday afternoon because if dad was not working on a Saturday he would be listening to the races. ( Sacrosanct kids not allowed to speak so we used to take the dog and go and play in the bush). Fishing gear was cord lines on wooden spools. Walk a mile from Ekibin up to the tram at Chardons Corner and catch a tram into town where we used to buy a shillings worth of prawns form the bait shop that used to be under the Victoria bridge and then walk up past the Grey Street ( William Jolly ) bridge . We would fish to dusk and half fill a sugar bag with perch not many forkies those days but dad would occasionally hook into a jew which he had no chance of landing. Then a repeat of tram and walk back home and then clean the fish. We would never take more than half a sugar bag of fish as in those days we did not have a fridge and kept everything in an Mawson ice chest. Iceman came 3 days a week delivering from a horse and cart. Milkman ,baker, also by horse and cart and paperman rode a horse with the papers in large bags over the withers; All the fish scraps were fed to the chooks after some of the heads were boiled up to make stock. Fish for the five of us till Wednesday which was grocery day when my sister and I would then walk from school up to Manahans the grocers at chardons corner and meet mum and we all used to carry the grocerys home. Sorry for going off subject I tend to remissness in my old age and waffle on. Life was so much simpler in those days. Cheers Ray
  6. Would have been hectic at the ramps this weekend. I went to Victoria point yesterday afternoon and there were trailers parked in all the side streets and nearly up to The Pelicans nest on the main road probably at least 1.5 ks away. Almost as bad as boxing day or easter. Cheers Ray
  7. I do not use side scan for what it is worth there is usually a school on the LHS of the western arm in 20 to 30 feet of water just before where the terraces made by removing the rock for the dam wall extension. There is a vertical white pipe on the shore that possibly has some measuring gear in it. That is where we pulled most of our fish from before the school moved on.All the boats on friday that we saw were moving around working the edges of the timber.and did not seem to be sitting in the one spot. Cheers Ray
  8. They are starting to get ready to spawn
  9. They are a pest fish as they are not native to the area and should not be returned to the water, Cheers Ray
  10. 50 amp anderson plug .had winch for 8 odd years used twice a week only issue has been have reversed the rope on the winch and replaced anderson plug after dragging it on ground from home to npd. Cable from battery no idea it was some twin core stuff that i paralled up. The earth side I just ran short length from anderson plug to chassis. When we use Ricks patrol his anderson plug is fed with 6mm twin core with both the positive and negative fed all the way from the battery on each leg of the twin core and the winch slows down on a steep ramp on the final pull where you have the heaviest load on the winch due to the reduced gearing with the winch drum full and due to pulling the full weight of the boat. Do not think that you would have any problems as your boat would weigh at least half of mine, cheers ray
  11. It is faster and quieter than Dinos. For a really fast retrieve you need one using a 15 to one winch and a holden starter and flex plate but they do not have a power out. Dinos and the anaconda one does have the advantage of being able to use as a manual winch if the motor fails. I just mount a manual winch on the post below the leccy winch, Cheers Ray
  12. I went to Hinze as a guest with Rick and Joy to comply with the covid rules. Been about 3 or 4 month since I have been there with the dam about 10 feet higher than last time. There were quite a few boats and yaks already launched when we arrived at the western arm at 5.50am. We headed down the LHS towards the dam wall having the area to ourselves with everyone else either heading upstream or on the opposite bank. Saw a few boats that had left their petrol motors on and doing the right thing. Finished up with 66 bass for the morning and I used up the rest of my tags. The eagles scored a few barred grunter, Cheers Ray
  13. this is what i have been using for the last 8 years with no problems just reversed the rope when it started to look a bit frayed, The wireless remote is invaluable when retrieving by yourself in the wind.If you get te anaconda one get a dyneema rope straight away . You can also ge a wireless remote kit from ebay cheers ray G'day ray! ray kennedy User IDrayken1938 (Feedback Score1077) Account settings Sign out eBay Deals Coles on eBay Help Sell Watch ListExpand Watch list My eBayExpand My eBay You have 3 new notifications3 Expand cart Back to search results |Listed in category: Vehicle Parts & Accessories > Car & Truck Parts > Exterior > Tow Bars & Winches Vehicle Parts & Accessories > Boat Parts, Accessories > Anchoring, Mooring > Winches Email to friendsShare on Facebook - opens in a new window or tabShare on Twitter - opens in a new window or tabShare on Pinterest - opens in a new window or tab Add to Watchlist | Check if this part fits your vehicle Contact the seller Opens image gallery Mouse over image to zoom Have one to sell? 14. Copy of part of email from PRFMA announcing reopening of dam 3. Access is limited to Permit Holders with the maximum number of people allowed in a Tinnie is two The SEQ water site says members of same family plus 1 visitor. I am unable to comment further but draw your own conclusion. On friday I will be going as a visitor with Rick and Joy to the hinze. The inability to tag in NPD is due to longstanding dispute between Stefan Sawynok and PRFMA that should have been resolved years ago. I used to tag over 1000 fish a year and this last year i only tagged less than 100. I am not renewing my suntag membership this year, North pine dam is the only dam in QLD that has stocking data going back to 1991 and catch card data to 2001 and tagging data up to a few years ago. My personal opinion is that it is a tragedy that tagging is not continuing due to a petty argument that should have been resolved years ago. Cheers Ray
  15. weinam creek is either ok with gravel at the end or if a lot of people have been driving on their trailers the gravel gets blown away. Good depth of water there either way for launching, The sides of the ramp are marked with a bit of paint on the walls to indicate the end of the ramp if you have a large boat and the gravel has washed away you could have a problem retrieving at dead low. Also pays to check all lanes as only the ones next to the walls tend to wash away more, Lot of people just drop the trailer over and let it rest on the rails if their mudguards do not hang down to hook up. I prefer Weinam Creek as it is always protected from wind and little tidal flow . Week end parking can get congested due to island visitors parking in the trailer bays I am fortunate as there are 2 disabled bays there and if they are full I just come home as it is only 1 away. Viccy point parking of a weekend is also horrible. Colmslie ramp used to provide a lot of amusement at low tide as there used to be a 4ft drop off at the end of the ramp. A few of the original members will remember one incident at a Brisbane River Classic weigh in. Cheers Ray
  16. percy ate the small one the 50+ he could not get down the eagle managed to skim it across the surface and have a feed on the beach.
  17. Another good day at NPD with plenty of shrimp in the traps so we did not have to resort to having to use those pesky lures and their dreaded by catch of forkys. Ended up with 58 bass and only 2 forkys. Only 2 photos as the card in my camera was full. Back to Hinze on Friday as we are allowed more than 2 people in the boat and we are also allowed to tag fish there. Cheers Ray
  18. Good read and do not forget to do survey and share on fb or where ever
  19. dont want it but just gave it a kick
  20. hoping to put pots in next week before i put salt boat away. had to cheat and use those bits of painted metal with hooks dangling out of them. That is what we caught most of the forkies on. Cheers Ray
  21. The forkies are good crab bait they were very agressive on the lures. Cheers Ray
  22. Pretty good day at NPD Sunday morning the shrimp pots were reasonably productive considering that they have been sitting for so long .Picked up around 12 bass at the point opposite the end of Koala straight before heading to Andrews drop off where it was on again and then to the 50ft mark near fad3. We ended up running out of shrimp with the counter on 50 bass by 10am. The fish were thick on the sounder right through the water column wherever we pulled up.. Give the shrimp 3 flicks of the rod and bang you were onto a fiesty bass but leave it go to the bottom and the dreaded forkys were there. We headed back upstream and found a mixed school of bass and forkies ending up with 68 bass and 18 forkies which are now in the freezer for crab bait. Wind was not too bad with no whitecaps but kept the i pilot honest holding position the first spot we tried we were swinging between 18 and 48 feet with the fish hanging right on the edge of the drop off. Bit of a comedown for me resorting to use bits of painted tin instead of proper bait when we ran out of bait Cheers Ray
  23. For those struggling with the current coronavirus rules, I found the following interpretative principles helpful. Before you read you may wish to make yourself a cup of tea maybe coffee or then again you may wish to pour a glass of wine. Then again you may wish to do all three. 1. You MUST NOT leave the house for any reason, but if you have a reason, you can leave the house. 2. Shops are closed, except those shops that are open. 3. You must not go to work, but you can get another job and go to work. 4. Schools are closed and you must home educate your children unless you can’t home educate your children then schools are open, but it depends which state you’re in, and the government recommends you home educate your children or send them to school, recognising that school is perfectly safe except for in the teacher’s staff room where it’s not safe because teachers can get the virus and children cannot, except those children that can. 5. Look, there is absolutely no need to be confused about schools. They are open or closed, children must stay home or attend, and they are not coronavirus risks except when they are. It may still differ from state to state, though. 6. The virus has no effect on children except those children it affects. 7. You are safe if you maintain the safe social distance when out, but you can’t go out with friends or strangers at the safe social distance. 8. It's important to get fresh air but don't go to parks but go for a walk. But don’t sit down, except if you are old, but not for too long or if you are pregnant or if you’re not old or pregnant but need to sit down. If you do sit down don’t eat your picnic, unless you've had a long walk, which you are/aren't allowed to do if you're old or pregnant. 9. You will have many symptoms if you get the virus, but you can also get symptoms without getting the virus, get the virus without having any symptoms or be contagious without having symptoms, or be non-contagious with symptoms...it's a sort of lucky/unlucky dip. 10. We should stay locked down until the virus stops infecting people but it will only stop infecting people if we all get infected so it’s important we get infected and some don’t get infected. 11. Gloves won't help, but they can still help so wear them sometimes, or not. 12. Masks are useless at protecting you against the virus, but you may have to wear one because it can save lives, but they may not work, but they may be mandatory, but maybe not. Just don’t touch them when you put them on or take them off. 13. To help protect yourself you should eat well and exercise, but eat whatever you have on hand as it's better not to go to the shops, unless you need a toilet roll or a fence post. 14. There is no shortage of groceries in the supermarkets, but there are many things missing. Sometimes you won’t need loo rolls but you should buy some just in case you need some. 15. No business will go down due to Coronavirus except those businesses that will go down due to Coronavirus. 16. If you are sick, you can go out when you are better but anyone else in your household can’t go out when you are better. 17. Don’t visit old people but you have to take care of the old people and bring them food and medication. 18. You can get restaurant food delivered to the house. These deliveries are safe. But groceries you bring back to your house have to be decontaminated outside for 3 hours including frozen pizza. 19. You can't see your older mother or grandmother, but they can take a taxi and meet an older taxi driver. 20. This virus can kill people, but don’t be scared of it. It can only kill those people who are vulnerable or those people who are not vulnerable. It’s possible to contain and control it, sometimes, except that sometimes it actually leads to a global disaster. 21. The number of corona related deaths will be announced daily but we don't know how many people are infected as they are only testing those who are almost dead to find out if that's what they will die of. The people who die of corona who aren’t counted, won’t or will be counted but maybe not. 22. The virus remains active on different surfaces for two hours ... or four hours...or six hours... I mean days, not hours. But it needs a damp environment. Or a cold environment that is warm and dry... in the air, as long as the air is not plastic. 23. Animals are not affected, but there was a cat that tested positive in Belgium in February when no one had been tested, plus a few tigers here and there… 24. Stay 2 metres away from tigers (see point 23). With that, I'm off to buy a fence post from Bunnings which is mostly open.
  24. Only 3 in our street and no last post sounded but the magpies warbling gave it an aussie feeling. Cheers Ray
