  1. They are quality and yeah we stay within bag limits it's not a trip you can do every week you got to fluke your holidays with good weather your lucky if you go a couple of times a year.
  2. Took 3 hours to fillet and clean up Hamish
  3. I forgot to mention the 1000 km round road trip and 250 km done in the Boat and approximately 2 months fish in the freezer for my family
  4. Lance and I set off from brisbane to stay the night in town at Agnes waters the next morning we set off early heading north to the bunker group. It started off slow with most spots without fish but the fish that did hit the deck were quality. Big red throat and tuskies pulled hard and Lance hooked a big trout it went 65cm. We kept working hard and put more trout, rte, tusky and cod in the box. On a spot we had 2 Cobia swim up to the Boat and Lance dropped a bait in front of it taking the bait the cobes took off and after 5 minutes got sharked. Before sunset it was time to look for red emperor. On a red spot I hooked a big tusky only to get sharked with just the head to show no reds turned up either. Anchoring up behind the reef we got a good night's sleep then at it again the next day. The one thing with multiple days you get to know where they're biting and when. So the reds might chew early morning and they did I found a small red emperor going 62cm. We found no more reds in my go to spot so off to new ground here Lance hooked a good tomatoe cod as I hooked a big red. My fish fought hard head thumping as they do and peeling line at times and slowly I start to gain line. He fought all the way to the Boat and hit the deck at 78cm and about 12kg. A marlin swam past the boat and we through baits out with no luck. The fish went off the chew out deep so we moved in close finding a couple more trout. The fish went really quiet and with no wind it was hot and time for a swim. The fishing in the late arvo was red hot and the quality was there with Lance landing the best red throat going 55cm and it pulled hard. We bagged out at 5pm on the coral reef fin fish with 40 fish onboard we went to anchor as the wind had picked up. The next morning we set off early heading south to a mackerel spot but no luck there. The run home was perfect with less than 5 knots all morning and a good trip home on the road we rolled in just after dark.
  5. What a beauty still pays to find a quiet spot in the bay and put in the time
  6. 3 crabs in the box is better than a poke in the eye
  7. Even in fishos paradise you still have to work hard good bag in the end
  8. Thanks Kelvin I have been through the Tweed bar plenty of times it's alright typical bar stands up on a big run out tide with a decent swell running.
  9. I have caught trag and plenty of other reef species over the years I am just a tad addicted Hamish
  10. Yeah Steve fillets dusted in wholemeal flour on a well oiled bbq plate with a squeeze of lemon just before they come off the bbq. The deal is they organise the chips and salad and keep a beer in my hand while I fillet and cook.
  11. Yeah it was a beauty for the young fella Lance
  12. Went through the Tweed river bar a couple of mornings ago and out to the Fad. 1st drift we had a double hook up and my friends 2 kids caught their 1st dolphin fish. Next drift was the same double hook up and dollies jumping around us. The new boats arriving drove fast straight up to the Fad and spooked the fish so it all went quiet. We decided to move back to the 9 mile reef where it was a lot calmer. 1st drift my friends son hooked up to a good snapper and after a dogged fight he reeled in his 1st snapper and a beauty at 66cm. The bottom went quiet so we trolled around the 9 mile reef for some pelagic hoping for a Spanish or marlin but it wasn't to be. We called it early and went back to the camp and filleted our catch. A big bbq fed plenty of family and friends at camp that night.
  13. Good luck March is a good month down there for them
  14. This is the start of the season and should only get better into January and February
  15. Haven't tried mermaid yet or had any reports from there to help you out Kelvin. The currumbin bar needs 2 hours minimum from low tide on the bigger tides on the neap tides you can get away with 1 hour from low I have been over it near low water a few times now.
  16. Got out yesterday to add another couple of spotties to the box got sharked on 2 others, they move even quicker with a shark on their tail
  17. They go hard on the end of the line to I was surprised how much line they stripped quickly off the reels
  18. Thanks Steve but one thing the mackerel don't like me showing up lol.
  19. Hit up Palm beach reef for an early morning session a couple of days ago. Jumped currumbin creek bar and joined the other boats already anchored but luckily no one was on my usual spot. We floated out pilchards and spun with slugs but it was all bait doing the work. The 1st fish hit the deck by 0500 and there was not much time before the next strike. We had double hook ups, tangles and plenty of fun keeping baits in the water. All up we got 8 strikes and landed 5 big Spottie mackerel in just over an hour. We were back on the ramp by 0800 and filleting by 0830. The fresh fish went well on the bbq with family and friends.
  20. Nice fish Dino did they jump and carry on
  21. https://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/activities/boating-fishing/rec-fishing/fish-aggregating-devices/find-a-fish-aggregating-device Open link to find coordinates
  22. They only have proposed GPS coordinates in media releases to date we should get the exact spots released soon.
  23. The new Fads " fish attracting device" are being deployed today offshore from the sunshine coast right down to the gold coast there was 10 in total originally set to go in but we may see a couple of extras. The dolphin fish are thick off south east Queensland now so they will find the Fads quickly and give us fishos more choice offshore. The Queensland government is set to make an announcement by Friday and their coordinates for the Fads will follow. It's good to be in the know on this project ( its not what you know but who you know) as I have been waiting eagerly for this to happen what perfect timing.
  24. There is some excellent whiting fishing in the Burrum so take the yabbie pump
