  3. Just got a new rod and reel set up for 1770 with my wife and daughter coming I want to see them pull some big red fish. Got a shimano tyrnos 16 I will load with 40lb braid on a Gary Howard g force extreme 30 to 40lb action. This feels like a perfect balance outfit can't wait to see it used in anger.

  9. A few of us are heading up to 1770 for a week during the school holidays starting from Saturday the 28th of September to Saturday the 5th of October. We have booked a house for the week and will be fishing the close and wider reefs depending on the weather. If anyone is interested in coming up and getting a house or just heading straight out to the reefs fishing post here and we can plan our trip on this thread. So far we have 2 boats and crew going with a few more boys to get back to me. This time of year is quite stable with the weather and we hope to get out to the wider reefs chasing red emperor, coral trout, red throat emperor, cod, etc.
  10. Yeah I still have my 1st rod it is a solid glass black queen from Jervis walker and I got my old man's black knight the 1st is 40 years old and the black knight closer to 50 yrs old. I still use them when targeting whiting I won't use anything else on whiting in the creeks.
  11. Awesome fishing I ran in to Fergie at the boat show and had a chat to him about the trip bloody amazing place you must have to duck down from the fish just wanting to jump in to the boat
  12. Yeah but I am winning the lotto tonight so I'll have plenty of money
  13. Good day at the boat show just need to win lotto now as I know what I want beers were nice and cold to
  14. If you go Saturday I will head in with you Julian
  15. Definitely wild country the scenery would have been enough for most punters then throw in bass that want to pull you out of the boat for the whole experience
  16. Just epic the scenery the rivers the waterfalls the journey the huts the fishing the adventure
  17. I am a living example of the chances of getting ciga poisoning i have eaten more large spanish over 40 years or more than most people. I have never had any touches of ciga over the years but that does not rule out the chance of getting it all together if you're worried try a small amount the night before anyone else in the family has sone the next day
  18. I have a original black queen and a black knight both i have owned for just over 40years and look similar to yours. Your rod has had the eyes replaced and a new coat of resin over the rod as my queen has got done by a mate recently but my knigjt is original with very dirfent looking eyes on the rod.
  19. Bugger I will miss this unfortunately will be setting up camp on the gold coast
  20. Some nice tailor Joe the big one would have put up a good fight
  21. You cant go wrong with pilchards, yabbies and slabs of mullet or tailor for around there
  22. I like cobby cobby passage out near slipping sands it has a good yabbie bank at the mouth to pump plenty of yabbies and i fish all through there while the tide is running then move up into the hole at the 3 way junction for the turn of the tide it is one of the deepest for the whole of the pin area and is linded with rock bottom good luck
  23. If you want to bring it ashore take a lump of wood with you to club them over the head so they settle down for you and bring a heshan sack so you can wet it and place the fish inside with your ice or now they have large soft esky bags at good fishing tackle shops the only other way is to take a water proof camera with your brag mat but good luck trying to keep a tuna quiet while you take its photo on a kayak
  24. I have caught countless numbers of these pests and anyone that knows me you'll understand that statement but since the target species is in the bay i can pass on some tips for them. The shipping channels in the bay like out from Bribie island or the inside of moreton island and all channels inbetween are your best bet to start at but all channels like the rainbow channel and the rous along north stradie and the deeper parts of the bay are a good bet. As others have said before the birds are the sign post of working tuna and look for terns in particular they are the real fisherbirds not seagulls. You want to start peppering them with your lures when the birds stop flying along and start to hover abover the bustup and then they dive into the bait balls driven up by the tuna get up wind or up current from them don't drive through the school see the way they are moving and let them come to you. If you see any disturbance in the water in the bay (bustup) the birds just haven't found it yet give it a go you can do alot of miles some days chasing tuna it can be hit and miss. Lures have been covered by many here already but i like chrome slugs and have a range of sizes to suit the bait that maybe there lures first catch the fishereman and i say its not about colour but size as size really does matter. You can try the shipping beacons if there is no activity for the day and anchor up so the baits drift down towards the beacon or do drifts past the beacon all shipping beacon will hold pelagics at times so there is no real secret spot but in my experience the ones off bribie and moreton and the start to the rainbow channel just inside southpassage bar do hold them more often. If your doing this pilchards are probably your best bait and you can still throw lures at the beacon while your drifting baits down My biggest in the bay was an 18kg longy caught on a pilchard while fishing for mackerel in the raibow channel Good luck
