Note to self: Don't tip the Cowboys WITHOUT Taumalolo ........ . Going to be a nice close battle all the way to the finish line.
I should of thought that, but I was thinking surely the Tigers won’t string multiple wind together!

I had two great days on the water, Friday and Saturday.
Friday
put the boat in at 5:15am and headed to one of the Beacons to get some live bait. The plan was to head up to Bulwer for the hope of a few tailor and a couple of Mackerel!
I ended up spending to much time chasing bait for some reason.
Then headed to Bulwer and threw the baits out. Caught a school mackerel on a pilchard, other than that it was quiet. I should of been there 45min earlier I reckon.I then caught a few small squid for bait and spent a couple of hours looking for some spots. I’ve never been to mud island before so had a sound around and caught a few baby snapper.
Was great conditions and would of liked another mackerel, but found a few interesting spots on the sounder.
Saturday
Took my two boys and Dad out for the day, was more of a boating day than a fishing day.
the boys had fun catching livies to start the day. They then lost patience once they scooped out the first lot of livies to set the lines. So we then mixed up fishing with site seeing, dune climbing, nature watching. We saw two dugongs which the boys enjoyed.
Two days in a row on the water is something I rarely get to do.
Thanks for the heads up on what was biting!- Old Scaley, ellicat, kmcrosby78 and 4 others

Haven't been out myself but have heard there are some schoolies around the traps, so those pillies might get some interest.
There were plenty of diver whiting on the chew a couple of weeks ago at Fisherman's Gutter.
Good luck. (Word has it that it's a great time of year to be on the water)
Thanks @ellicat, Mackerel are one of my favourite things to chase. But I’ve only had a boat to handle Moreton bay for a couple of years & didn’t realise they hang around on Winter.
Will see if I can find a couple! -
Hi Fellow Fishers,
Im taking an RDO tomorrow and will put the boat in at Shorncliffe tomorrow. For the first time in a few months.
im out of touch on what’s biting at the moment.
Thinking of heading over to Moreton and throw a few pillows around early then maybe chase some whiting.
Open to any suggestions on what to chase this time of year?
cheers

im scrubbing the boat after just 3 small squid!
Today I took my youngest out (3yo) to get used to the boat. So it was just the two of us.
I packed the mackerel & whiting gear.
had a short go at the mackerel till the young one carried on, so we moved to the Sandhills for whiting. He fell asleep.
so While I caught a handful of whiting, I threw out a squid jig to just float behind the boat. This is the first time I’ve chased them in Moreton bay.
I caught three, the first one I grabbed by the tube, he then grabbed my hand with all of his tentacles. I then flicked him on the bait board and he squirted ink!
the next one shot ink at me from the water, hit me on the shorts. But what impressed me was he got me through the bottom gap of the bait board!
Promised my eldest I’ll take him in the school holidays to chase squid.

Does anyone find it strange how he handles his whole retirement? And reports of him “snubbing” ex storm teammates. Makes me think there is more to the story
I think he was unsure if it really was time.
He did retire from rep footy just before the QLD team was being announced. I’m sure Keven Walters must of not been impressed with. -
Haven’t been out since Christmas, so can’t wait to get out this weekend!

Hi Hamish,
Watching fishing on YouTube is about all I watch as I wait for the NRL to start up. Have plenty that I watch, two I can add to the list are.
Sammy Hitszke Fishing videos. As they well made & mostly local to South East QLD.
Pelagic Pursuit is another who does most of his videos on the reef up north.
I follow Team Mad Mullet also.

I’ve only used gumtree in the same manner as the old paper trading post.
I believe Evay bought Gumtree a while back, so I guess that is why it is setting up PayPal.- AUS-BNE-FISHO and ellicat

Leaving - look familiar @Towknee? Once again, big thanks for it!
No worries at all.
Good to see it get some use & free up some floor space in the shed. -
Hi Hamish,
As always, informative report. Great to see your efforts pay off! Bet he put up a great fight for you.
I got to try Threadfin for the first time when a mate caught one in the Fitzroy river. Very tasty indeed!cheers,

I have one, bought from the tackle shop in Sandgate.
great rod particularly for the boat as stops all those little hooks getting stuck in the carport!
ive found when using from the jetty the friction from the rod causes you to use a bigger sinker than normal.Buy one, you’ll have no regrets!

So my 2020 goals were (thanks for the link Hamish)
1. Catch a nice feed of tailor with my Son
2. Take my old man on a successful mackerel session in the bay
3. Explore the bay more
4. Catch a long tail tuna
5. My son catches a flathead
so I achieved item 5 which was a memorable day.
This year I upgraded the boat, so can sneak a bit further so I’ll keep items 1-4 and add an extra. Catch a dolphin fish!

Replace tow vehicle or not - opinions please

If you like the car I’d be spending the couple of grand and get a few more years out of it. my old man is a motor mechanic and just retired, he said they do big kms with little issues. Thanks
I’ve been thinking it’s time to get a vehicle that tows the boat a bit better. I use our Subaru Forrester which towed my old tinny really well (would of been around 700kg).
but the new boat is around 1200kg and I wouldn’t do long tow trips with it.
Currently not that keen to buy a new or near new car & have been thinking of a falcon or ford territory.
