The shipping channel beacons in the Eastern and northern bay often hold yellowtail kingfish (and Cobia at times). They are not always big ones, but a few of them are. The bigger ones can be very wary, and will seldom take dead or cut baits. The best chance of hooking one is with live bait, which can usually be jigged at the same beacons.

A big thanks to John Costello. I saw on a YouTube video that he was going around Australia, and giving away lures. Alas, I found myself logging onto Facebook ( 🤒 ) and entering a modified Brisbane River Session #72 into the entries. I received a message saying I'd won something, and guess what?!
Two soft vibes and a The Kayakers Guide to the Gold Coast, which is certainly needed for me and Dad 😉, was received. Yippee!!!

Today I took my youngest out (3yo) to get used to the boat. So it was just the two of us. 
I packed the mackerel & whiting gear. 
 
had a short go at the mackerel till the young one carried on, so we moved to the Sandhills for whiting. He fell asleep.
so While I caught a handful of whiting, I threw out a squid jig to just float behind the boat. This is the first time I’ve chased them in Moreton bay.
I caught three, the first one I grabbed by the tube, he then grabbed my hand with all of his tentacles. I then flicked him on the bait board and he squirted ink! 
 
the next one shot ink at me from the water, hit me on the shorts. But what impressed me was he got me through the bottom gap of the bait board! 
 
Promised my eldest I’ll take him in the school holidays to chase squid.

What a reaction. Seems the stupid covid thingo has restricted numbers. POOP. 
Next year we should all enter it!!!! 

Took a well earned rest from “bassing “with Ray today .
Hooked up the big boat at 3.30am  ,collected my son at Bribie at 4.15am and proceeded north to the Sunshine Coast along with what seemed every other boat in SE Qld .
Target species were Spanish Mackerel and they didn’t disappoint . We found some bait with Spanish on it well away from the crowd just on sunrise  , quickly deployed 2 troll baits and picked up 2 Spanish  for the ice box ice in a couple of minutes.
This bit of action resulted in  quickly being inundated by other keen fishermen. We voted on a tactical move to let the hoards scare the crap out of that school  and we went looking elsewhere . After moving a km or so we found some more and put another 3 in the esky and headed home . 5 hits - 5 fish no shark issues. Very tidy day with some quality fish 12 to 18 kg each.

Well I'd actually support this - providing it goes to more Fisheries Officers, and better facilities on the water. A small fee isn't much at the end of the day when it could help improve fish stocks, etc. 
I think a license would be good as well. They could show and give people brochures on size limits. Then, providing you had your license, you're going to get stung big time if you have undersize fish!
