  1. Yea no if I want catch bait I just use sabiki jigs they work pretty well and yes sometimes I do get small bream on bread but a lot of times I get 3/4 bream around 30cm and bigger in a 1 or 2 hour session using bread so it just depends on the day and the gear I use for bream is fairly light so live baiting isn’t a very good option as in winter kingfish and big tailor swim around looking small poddy mullet and baitfish and if I get a kingfish there’s no way I’m landing it with 3-8lb rod and 6 braid with 4lb or 6lb leader and yes you can’t use cast nets in nsw
  2. Yep I just have to figured out how to catch them consistently I’ve only caught bream and flathead there and everyone else there Only target . Bream flathead luderick whiting jewfish kingfish snapper drummer tailor mullet dart aussie salmon silver biddy leather jacket and sometimes sharks also popular by catch includes garfish trumpeter hairtail goatfish needlefish pike stingrays squid/cuttlefish juvenile GT and estuary cod but estuary cod a extremely rare there . never seen anyone target or catch silver trevally or even seen someone clean trevally at the cleaning station it’s a fairly popular breakwall and people that fish there are at a variety of fishing skills beginners to pros and the cleaning station is usually packed with people cleaning full eskys of fish all day long and I think silver trevally prefer southern waters where I was fishing is a fair bit north of Sydney
  3. I went out to my not so local break wall but nearest break wall 40 minute drive fished there a few times got some good bream there before . So this arvo I rocked up to the breakwall light breeze sunny last 2 hours of the run out perfect time for flathead fishing flicked some zman slim swims for about 1 hour . only a few bites from some small bream couldn’t believe it so I switched to a surface lure and walked to the sandflats not far from the breakwall to see if any whiting were interested in taking my pimped 70m sugurpen not a single chase . So I walked back onto the breakwall and started fishing with bread fished this one spot for about 40 minutes caught 4 bream all under 15cm it was almost time to go .starting to get dark as I walked back I had a quick flick using bread not to far from the cleaning stations that they had on the breakwall .same thing small bream . I switched to a curly tail grub got snagged 2nd casted so I went back to bread on my last cast prepared to catch a 10cm bream on bread I cast out wait 30-50 seconds stairing at my braid with my bail arm flipped over waiting for a bite or a run suddenly braid starts flying through my guides and shooting deeper into the snaggy looking water I set the hook expecting a few good head shakes and then skull dragging a tiny bream but instead I got some massive head shakes and then a run like a Freight train and my rod was bending more then I was comfortable with I was huffing and puffing this fish was pulling line like a kingfish btw I was using 6lb braid 6lb leader and a 1.5-3.5kg atomic arrowz bream surface rod the fish didn’t give up as the fish got closer to the rock wall I seen a silver flash and a arrow shaped tail what could this be . I pulled it in closer making sure it didn’t wrap me around weed or oysters or even dive under a rock I got my net and scooped up a 33cm silver trevally that I originally thought was a pb bream or a juvenile kingfish or school jewfish a very good surprise for my last cast I brain spiked the fish with a knife and bleed it out and put it a bucket with water and kept it and is now in the freezer btw I’ve never caught one before I’ve only been fishing probably for just over a year never had a fish like that fight so hard . Fought harder then my PB flathead 55cm .so know I’m trying to do research so I can catch more of these things
  4. Product . Daiwa aird lt 2000 type light spin reel price $90-100 colour gold and black pros good line lay excellent drag and no play in the handle cons plastic rotor not very water resistant and doesn’t come with much grease or oil quality has a good drive gear and drag is excellent but other then that reels average quality for the price range doesn’t come with much grease on the gears compared to other daiwa and shimano reels but is easy to service when it does run out of grease experience 7 months of brackish and saltwater use overall good reel but wouldn’t recommend because you can get the legalis for not much more and the legalis lt comes 2 ball bearings on the pinon gear instead of 1 ball bearing on the pinon gear that the aird lt has also the legalis lt has silent oscillation and better gearing and a much better rotor . biggest fish i got on the aird lt was a 55cm dusky flathead using 6lb braid and 6lb leader using 2.5 inch slim swims in calico candy And it handled it fine was a long fight on light gear though . rating 4.5/5 ideal much up rod any daiwa 2-4kg rod or any 3-8lb rod shimano Stradic fl 1000 review coming sometime in the future
  5. Yea I usually use 150m of braid but I will try 100m on this reel worse thing that can happen is I get a big fish and starts spooling my reel just thumb the spool and the leader knot will snap and if this happen s often I can just replace the line and put 150m of braid on
  6. Yea might have to tie a heavy leader for those jacks if I ever go north
  7. Yea once I try it a few times I will tell you thanks for all the feedback
  8. Yea just for smaller jewfish under a metre and yea small Murray cod worth a crack worse come to worse I will just switch it to 8lb braid and use it strictly for flathead and small trevally
  9. Had some 10lb braid lying around and decided to spool my new reel with it I managed to get around 100m metres of braid on my reel maybe a little more. I was wondering if this is enough. Will be possible be using this for fish like jewfish maybe small Murray cod if I go south one day or a mangrove jack if I go north . Yea so will this be enough ? Thanks
  10. Yea if you really need to use surface lures it will work but if your planning just to do surface lures on the day stick to a mono leader but if you not sure if you want to use soft plastics or bait or surface lures on the day just use fluorocarbon it’s very versatile compared to mono it doesn’t make a huge difference between the 2 when using surface lures if your using light leaders like 4-8lb as They don’t sink as fast as stronger fluorocarbons .general rule of thumb fluorocarbon for soft plastics. bait and small hardbodies and vibes mono for surface lures bait and some hard bodies basically to sum it all up the reason you use fluoro with soft plastics is because it sinks and so does the lure if you use mono with soft plastics it ruins the action of the lure and doesn’t sink probably And looks crap the reason you use mono with surface lures is Because it floats and doesn’t really sink that much or at all when slack. if you use fluorocarbon with surface lures it will pull the lure underwater a little depending on the breaking strain lower fluorocarbons don’t often do this and you can usually get away with using light fluorocarbon leaders as they don’t sink as fast Hope that helps that’s just my general experience with the 2 lines as a leader and spooled whole
  11. Yea thanks mainly using them for soft plastic fishing also bait fishing and maybe some surface lures
  12. I got a new rod and it also came with a bonus reel it was combo which is nice. got it at bcf for $150 usually $300 it’s a 2-5kg rod and it came with a 2500 size reel now I was going just to get a 3-5kg rod not a combo but when this came up I couldn’t let it slip away the rod feels really light and has a great action but feels durable at the same time . Now the reel feels really nice I was originally just going to put 8lb braid on my aird lt but I’m going to put it on this reel instead and turn my aird lt into a bait fishing reel or spare/backup reel . The reel Is a daiwa lexa Nero lt 2500 but I’m almost certain it’s a legalis lt with a different name and paint job .so here is my updated rod and reel setups 1 ultra light atomic Arrowz bream surface rod 2pc soon matched with Shimano Stradic fl 1000 6lb braid and daiwa aird lt 2000 as back up reel 2 light daiwa aird x 2-4kg rod matched with daiwa lexa Nero lt 2500 8lb braid 3 medium daiwa td Nero 2-5kg rod matched with upgraded shimano cazna 2500 10lb braid As you can see I like to mix different rod and reel brands to dial in the perfect spin combos just bored in semi quarantine so wondering what people think of these setups
  13. Yea I was using bread that day but yea I never target bream on lures because if I do I don’t catch many or none but if I target other fish like whiting or flathead on lures sometimes I get a few by catch bream and sometimes big bream. the 2.5 inch slim swims are my go to flathead lure but sometimes I will get some bream by catch on them no matter what colour I use
  14. Yea went fishing with my mate today at my closest rock wall we got some good bream luckily before i went fishing I gave my aird lt a service 6 months old now Used it 1-3 times a week to give a prospective how much this reels been used and abused because my reel was heavily abused by salt sand and big bream today and if I didn’t service it I don’t think it would have made It just gave it a good clean when we got back and wiped off the salt and sand and it’s good to go . I have to grease my drag washers regularly just to keep the felt washers from tearing because I use it so regularly it’s always having fish running and making the drag scream. Thanks for all the replies on this thread
  15. Yea thanks yea I’ve Seen the reel in person and know it’s small but I like reels small for most fishing applications I have A 2000 daiwa atm on my 1.5kg to 3.5kg rod but I’m gonna move that to my 2-4kg because i like a just like small reels there’s just a certain feel I like about them i I know they can handle decent size fish . I don’t know how people use 2500 siennas on 1-3kg rods it just feels so unbalanced and heavy and ruins the finesse feel I would normally use a 2500 reel on a 3-5kg rod .a 2000 isn’t bad but it doesn’t feel as light and powerful as a 1000 on a 1-3kg rod and I know for a fact that any 1000 reel can handle a good flathead or Jew even I cheap 1000s reel like a sienna but yea looking forward to getting the reel . Thanks for all the replies everyone
  16. Wow can’t believe this thread has been going for 7 years one of the first post on this thread was a basic overview of the good old Stradic FJ meanwhile I’m saving up for the new Stradic fl which is 10 times better then the old fj when I get my Stradic and fish with it a bit I will do a review on this thread to keep it going for years to come
  17. Yea not a fan of the hex drive handle on the Sedona more into the screw in handles I have 2 reels with hex drive handles that’s enough reels with hex drive handles for Me I still love my reels with the hex drive handles but I just prefer the screw in handles my 2 other reels with different handle design there good decent reels but they are under $100 and won’t be used as much after I buy the Stradic . But yeah when My aird lt craps itself I might get a 1000 sedona but that probably won’t happen anytime soon Because I look after my reels good thanks for suggestion but I really want this Stradic as I know it will be better
  18. yeah I was going to get a sienna or Nasci but I’m earning more money then usual so I decided why not get something more medium end rather then budget . And yeah I remember I got a crap Shimano reel once and returned it because I had the receipt so I know to do that now .but the Stradic is supposed to be the best reel under $300 some people and think best reel under $500 but I think I will be happy with the reel regardless if I’m happy with a cheap $90 aird or a $40 sienna I think the Stradic will be great
  19. I’ve been collecting cans and bottles for while and that’s how I’ve been earning money around $100-120 a month I’ve almost saved up enough money to the buy the new Stradic FL in the 1000 size it cost $254 where I’m buying it from . I’m going to use this reel on my atomic arrows bream surface rod instead of my aird lt 2000 which I’m gonna move on to my 2-4kg aird x rod and buy a 3-5kg rod to match my 2500 cazna with so i will finally have enough fishing gear to cover most fishing situations . Ok now back to point does anyone that owns the new Stradic in the 1000 size have any issues with them I’ve done a lot of research and I couldn’t find anything negative about them . I’ve watched about every tackle advisors video on the Stradic and that really sealed the deal for me as he had a very great option on them so after watching his videos and doing research on google I’ve decided I’m getting the reel it’s a lot more money then I usually spent on a reel .cough cough almost triple the price I would normally spent on a reel. so I hope it’s good and reliable like my aird lt which I know the Stradic will be better anyway .any information about the reel I would be glad to hear positive or negative
  20. For a bream setup I would recommend you get a Shimano Stradic fl 1000 and spool it with 6lb daiwa j braid and get a atomic arrows bream surface rod . The bream surface rod is very versatile I use mine for bait fishing hardbody lures and soft plastics fishing All work well with the rod and the rods retail extremely cheap considering how good they are 10 times better then anything in their price point I got mine for $112 but usually retail between $130-150 but even at $150 their worth the price they can handle anything from small bream and whiting to big Jew tailor and flathead . Hope that helps . Oh and the Stradic fl reels in the 1000 size can usually be between $250-274
  21. at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter because the fish don’t actually swallow and digest the plastic . The just get hooked in the corner of jaw 99% of the time I’ve never gut hooked a fish on a soft plastics before . And yea as long as you pick up your own rubbish I can’t see how it could make a difference . The people who always leave old fishing line and lure packets on wharfs and jetties really piss me of though . People who do this really need to take in consideration of the negative effects in can cause on bird and marine life and it just looks plain messy in general. Zman plastics are my go to soft plastics but I’ve heard good things about the bio tough lures by Shimano/squidgies if you were really concerned about the environmental effects . But like I said I don’t think it makes a difference unless your not picking up your own rubbish and mess
