  1. Fitzroy reef is the same.
  2. Nicely done mate. Well done with the fish. It was definetly a beautiful Morning to be out.
  3. Mate thats the best story i have read in a while. Ever considered a career as an author? Shame you didnt get to have a good crack fishing but its an experience i dont reckon you will forget! Do you reckon you would go back to North west if the weather looked good? P.S thanks for typing your story up, it must have taken ages.
  4. Disclaimer - Not many fish were caught in the making of this write-up. Well today i had my first day off in 14 days so it was well and truly time to take the boat for a run. Seeing as it was MIL ( Mother in law's) birthday the plan was to head over to Horseshoe Bay on Peel island for the day. Thinking i might be able to have a fish on the way i took my lightweight reef gear and a whiting rod. We launched at Raby Bay and it was a smooth trip over to peel with Wife and two kids aged 4 and 3. With an hours worth of catching up me and FIL decided to try our luck at South-west rocks. Keeping our expectations low we had a cast. After an hour or so all we had were pickers and baby squire (released of course) should have got a photo but trust me they were nothing to write home about. I had a whiting rod on the beach all day but no fish seemed to be interested. On the way home we stopped for a look on sandy island as the kids wanted to see the birds. So we got a photo there. Overall it was a beautiful day on the water with the family and everyone had fun which is what is important. It is days like today that make you appreciate what you have got and the environment we live in.
  5. Ah well you cant get them all the time. Muds usually fished fairly hard this time of year. Sure Looks like a fun day out, i have to work 14 days on so im a bit jealous! Hopefully this fishing and weather will be good for your 1770 trip. P.S Is the outboard holding up? Regards,
  6. Sounds alright, refer to my other post about cracks when you go for a look.
  7. Yeah the guys above are spot on. It only takes one time for the weather to turn sour on you to make a great day on the water turn deadly. For 5 years i went a lot further offshore than my seawasp was designed to. I recently posted about what happend to me when i got caught out. The 5m is a much more suitable boat, you will thank yourself for it later. P.s A week or two ago 2 guys died after their 3.8m boat overturned in moreton bay. Sadly this is the reality of what happends when you come under pre-pared. Happy boat hunting Regards,
  8. Hi mate, Is it the 30hp yamaha 3 cylinder 2 stroke? If so i have had one since 2004 when bought it brand new out of the dealership. It was my first "big purchase" being 15. Anyway, i have flogged it ever since. I only give it a service once a year and a flush out every couple of months. If it has good compression, give it a service and i cant see why it couldnt be a good engine for you. I assume your talkng about the 440 jabiru? I have never owned or ridden in one but seeing as it is a punt style boat i reckon it would bang your teeth out with a bit of sea. In nice weather it would probably be fine. A fishing monthly article reckons they get 27 knots out of one with a 40 so i reckon you get around 23 knots out of a 30. I would be checking for cracks along keel weld, transome weld, ribs, etc. Happy boat hunting Regards,
  9. Man there must be some weirdos around. Thanks for the public service announcement.
  10. Were you going to have more than 10 people in one house anyway?
  11. I use seabreeze and windyty. Just remeber these apps like all weather forecasting can be wrong. I agree with dropbear no more than 12 knots of wind will be fun. P.S it is about 17 nautical mile from Scarborgh to Bulwer. Looking at your profile boat and depending on speed 40mins to 1 hour would be a good guess i reckon.
  12. Have fun greg, fraser is a special place for sure.
  13. Once the you have someone who can legally drive the boat. A 15hp 2 stroke would be the pick of the bunch on a 12ft tinny i reckon. 3 guys and gear going against the tide will barely be moving with a 6hp. Good luck
  14. Experince definetly helps. If i could give any advice it would be to pick your weather. Some days like last wednesday are flat. You just have to remember the fish will always be out there. Theres always next time. Cheers,
  15. Thanks mate, Rods will be coming out with me for sure next time. I have been crossing bars since i was ten with my family and bought my seawasp with my dad at 15. My problem was that i was becoming a bit laxy dazy and thinking i could cross bars and in any weather and tide i like. That day in 2014 at about 4pm the tide was on a fast runout and waves were standing up. As usual i found a wave to sit on the back of and ride it in. Well the wave just completely disapeared from beneath me and the next wave behind absoulutely ploughed me. Filled the wasp with water and stalled the 30hp 2 stroke yam. Whilst i was trying to pull the old 30hp over another wave smacked me from the side and rolled the boat at about 80 degrees. About 60% of the water came out along with 2 nice rods, a bit of tackle and an empty jerry can. I got the outboard going again and held it flat all the way back to the ramp. That sure taught me anyway. This all happend under 1 to 1 and a half minutes. I wasnt going to post my experince but in the end i thought it would be a good reminder to everyone. No matter how many times you have done something or for how long, you need to respect the ocean. Cheers and stay safe,
  16. Today was my RDO so what better to do then go for a rip out Jumpinpin bar for the first time in 6 years! I crossed the Bar at 1PM, just on high tide with barely any sea. I didnt really see much of a channel so just headed east. Lowest water i got down too was 4.1M with a majority being 4.5M this is with a tide of 1.7M which means as of 12/8/2020 there is 2.4M LAT (lowest astronomical tide). On a "normal" low tide there would be about 2.8-3M. Please keep in mind i didnt see any gutters or channels becuase i wasnt putting much effort in looking for them. It may be deeper in them if there are any. Bit of a mental hurdle for me anyway after nearly rolling my Seawasp in 2014 on that bar. I didnt really much around out there, just went out the bar and came back in.
  17. Cheers for the welcome mate. I will just have to go have a look for myself. I will post the results back here in case anyone wants that information.
  18. Hey All, First post, I was wondering if anyone has crossed jumpinpin bar recently and how deep was it? I haven't crossed it in 6 years since I nearly stacked it there and am planning to go when the weather fines up. Cheers,
